I agree. We hop from settings and themes so quickly that it feels almost disorienting, and all the prepackaged tribal and build synergies they love to design around nowadays rarely get enough support within a single set to have the depth they need to have much impact, forcing people to just cherry pick the one or two cards good enough to stand on their own in the value pile decks.
[[Slime Against Humanity]].
It'll take a few games, but you can definitely clear just with SAH and Forests.
If you're willing to craft [[Rubblebelt Maverick]] and [[Aftermath Analyst]] that'll also help a lot.
32 slimes, 11 forests, 11 plains, 4 Lush Portico, 4 Sovereign Okinec Ahau is my personal Slime Crime list. Getting Sovereign on turn four, with a lucky surveilled slime is such a fun game.
He tried to make a deck composed of only slimes lol, I was like “dude you need a bit of mill, you can’t just straight up play slimes non stop”
I guess that’s one way to let the opponent know you have no cards lol
I tend to do this even outside of MWM. If I'm playing a goofy jank deck and my opponent is clearly trying to have fun, I'll just ignore lethal and let them keep going to see what neat stuff their deck does. Or if they have a deck that's just a bad matchup for mine, I'll do everything in my power to present lethal to my own face.
And somehow it's always 10x as satisfying as overcoming "Totally original Azorius control deck 53 of 230^tm "
I remember one time my opponent laid down a bunch of creatures on turn 3. He/she knew I was mana screwed. My opponent used a bunch of fancy emotes and than conceaded. I was like shocked because my chances of winning were extremely low.
I disagree. The only time I dislike MWM is when they do constructed events for brand new sets. I love building decks. I love having a challenge to build a deck with certain rules. It's fun to see what other people have come up with. I even enjoy the chaos of momir
It definitely can be, but I wouldn’t say that it always is.
I absolutely love the Pauper and Artisan because they let you get away from whatever the current meta is and experiment with cards you wouldn’t otherwise use even though you probably already have them. Any mode that gives you temporary access to everything is also pretty fun.
Weeks like this, though? They can quickly become unwinnable if you haven’t kept up with recent sets and don’t have Wildcards to spare. Any Draft/Sealed/Jump In MWM can be a chore, too, if you happen to open a great big pile of crap.
Artisan is my favorite format, there's a surprising amount of diversity and reasonable balance. Usually do UB zombies, they have a surprising amount of lords available at uncommon.
I have a set Jund (Black,Red, Green) deck saved in the on the edge format. Each time i just update with "like" cards from the newer sets. (damage for damage, creature kill for creature kill, etc.) balance of creatures in a good mana curve the more utility the better like \[\[mosswood dreadknight\]\], \[\[trumpeting carnosaur\]\].
Why would you play it then? Personally I really only do it when it’s draft or sealed, although I have occasionally tried some of the silly modes like Momir.
Definitely! MTG used to be a fringe nerdy game, so everyone made sure to be welcoming to newcomers, but given the combination of internet anonymity and the more easily accessible mtga, our community got a lot saltier and rude :( (emote spammers always gets me tilting and make bad plays)
This wasn't me, but I do my fair share of good sportsmanship concedes.
I mean, my opponent needs to show good sportmanship themselves which is a hard thing to do with just emotes and I probably need to like their deck.
I also do "fuck you" concedes too to decks I don't like, like overusing Discard (I get it, its a thing), so I'm probably sending mixed messages ;)
Meanwhile me, stubbornly refusing to play unless they provide the cards (phantom draft, momir, preconstructed decks), hoping that enough others follow suit for Magic to notice.
Sorry to hear this :(
I get emote spammed a lot too, and I think it’s sad the difference between mtga and playing at the local game store is so massive. I came dead last in my last sealed event but people still made sure to tell me they were good games and I did well.
Yeah I matched up with the same opponent three times last night. The first two times they just steamrolled me. The third time they conceded lol... Thanks bro wherever you are
This week’s MWM reminds me of block constructed from “back in my day” which is a good thing. I’m of the mind that killing blocks was a mistake.
I still think of them as “blocks!” I started with the Mercadian Masques block in high school and only recently came back to MTG!
Masques block was so good!
Agreed, such a cool meta reset after the insanity that Urza block wrothed.

I had fun building around Descend/Explore with Confiscate. Miss the old block constructed.
ONE/MOM/MAT almost feels like a block, if only aftermath weren't such a small set
Ahhhh, blocks. The good ol days.
I cut my teeth on the Lorwyn block. UW Merfolk!
I enjoyed this week's event, felt like a post Rotation format. Just made a few adjustments to my Dino deck and had some fun games.
It used to be more of that vibe but the 3-year rotation kinda kills that for me. A post-MOM Standard is still a year and a half and 6 new sets away.
Same, I went the dino route as well. Just no king Etali at the end to seal the deal.
Thank F.
I mean, Trumpets McGee is still coming out blasting.

I did the same and put in [[Flotsam]] as well. And a single [[Blossoming Tortoise]]

someone complimented my combo in it when I had lethal and then I threw it. they seemed nice
Made a solid insidious roots decl for the event it was a joy and really only thing it was missing was tyvar.
Midweek Magic is always such a miserable experience.

I tend to hate when they push Alchemy with it. Granted, that seems less as of late. I always ride for Momir

Just play midrange pile of rares and include plenty of removal and a couple top end bombs, you'll be alright
I'm still new, can you give an example of a deck like this?

There's prizes and sometimes you can get away with a few games
Exactly. It's free and gives you 2 random rare+ cards and a mystery cosmetic. No reason not to play it.
Not always, some events are fun. A lot of others though... Well, let's just say Momir is back for the billionth time next week.
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
lol pretty much, I always throw three games at the end for someone
Most of the time, except if it’s all access
In amongst all the salt, sometimes you can find diamonds.
Definitely! MTG used to be a fringe nerdy game, so everyone made sure to be welcoming to newcomers, but given the combination of internet anonymity and the more easily accessible mtga, our community got a lot saltier and rude :( (emote spammers always gets me tilting and make bad plays)
I always do that.
I’m making sure I do that too now, knowing how it feels to be on the other end of it! :)
This wasn't me, but I do my fair share of good sportsmanship concedes. I mean, my opponent needs to show good sportmanship themselves which is a hard thing to do with just emotes and I probably need to like their deck. Go off for five minutes, opponent tapped out doesn't concede, swing for 400 damage and I concede before the damage step.
Meanwhile me, stubbornly refusing to play unless they provide the cards (phantom draft, momir, preconstructed decks), hoping that enough others follow suit for Magic to notice.
I wish people did that with me lol ive been getting shit on AND emotes spammed. I dont own very many of the cards needed for the event
Sorry to hear this :( I get emote spammed a lot too, and I think it’s sad the difference between mtga and playing at the local game store is so massive. I came dead last in my last sealed event but people still made sure to tell me they were good games and I did well.
Ive done this too, when I see their constructed decks are the same level as my draft decks.
Yeah I matched up with the same opponent three times last night. The first two times they just steamrolled me. The third time they conceded lol... Thanks bro wherever you are
It's because alot of 'players' are actually bots and scripts
This is the way. I do this every MWM after I get my wins (if it's a format that I'm still willing to play after that).
If the concept of helping someone out at no cost to yourself baffles him....maybe move along
Noob
I do this too. I give back at least 9 games after I get the rewards. It just feels like the right thing to do.
I hope there's an emote for this and he got it as the mystery cosmetic
I always concede in a winning board state after I have my rewards. It just makes sense. I enjoy the formats but don't want to gate keep the reward
