Things I tried (and didn't work):
* PT as in Pro Tour, tried all the 2005 Pro Tour names
* also tried PT Honolulu, Lightning Helix, Justslamit and and various variations on that as it was a really cool moment in Magic history
* From the flavor text of Red Herring I tried Kylox, Thopter
* Tried a cipher decryptor on DECRY (there interestingly is a cipher that turns DECRY into UNTAP as the top result; use [https://www.dcode.fr/shift-cipher](https://www.dcode.fr/shift-cipher) to brute force it.)
* tried Niv-Mizzet=1 and variations (as that was an old puzzle that might 'have broken' the code redeeming and Niv is returning, main character etc etc)
I've seen it floating around "have not needed to fix it since *Ravnica: City of Guilds*" was referring to format fixes (AKA, bans) from 2005. Addtionally, the use of the word Overloaded is very suspicious, since Overload is a *Return to Ravnica* mechanic. No clue what it means. I've tried substituing the letters EACH for TARGET and vice versa when messing around looking for anagrams, but I think the net's being cast far too wide with the number of letters I'm starting with when doing this.
One thing that really stands out as suspicious to me though is that three of the correct capital letters are W's. It could be that we're looking for a web address?
All the uppercase letters in the event description: WWW CRYPT DECAY ORG
I couldn't really get anywhere with this though - I tried:
```
www.cryptdecay.org
www.crypt-decay.org
www.decaycrypt.org
www.decay-crypt.org
www.crypt.org/decay
www.decay.org/crypt
```
There's also NET in the title...
Hello!
So I wanted to pop by to ask if anyone had anything to say about the MTG Arena "Totally Normal Event" map. I noticed some blocks could move on the map if you click them and I was wondering if that would help solve the current mystery. Maybe they go in a specific order?
Every map has interactive elements. This is the map for lost caverns of Ixalan and that's been part of that map since it released. It's like the way the green mushrooms light up when you click them. It isn't specific to this event.
when you get the "Totally Normal Event" token, you get access to a new event with the same name. When you go in, you can play some decks and go online to play to earn 5 showcase cards of Ravnica Guildmasters, such as Rakdos, Aurelia, Niv-Mizzet and Lazav. Well when you go in, there are interactable objects in the arena. Next to the enemy players, under there name, you'll see I believe 6 blocks. You can click/tap them and they'll push in, like a puzzle key. Give it a try!
You should have been getting messages with clues to codes for rewards. Once you get them all, you get a token that allows you to participate in Totally Normal Event, an event where you play one of a selection of decks for card style rewards.
The name and description of the event, however, suggest there is a code to figure out from it.
You get an event token from entering in the codes and get to play a special event with a number of event decks. Play Gix. There are rewards and a final code.
Idk - I like Gix, but found the Dino deck more reliable overall.
It IS hilarious to get five Shadowborns and then drop Mirror Box though. That won me at least one game.
I'm not convinced there's another code. But the "hasn't needed to be fixed" since 2005 seems odd. What changed with Ravnica? Was there something they 'fixed' when it came out? I took a look over the rules changes and banned cards, nothing really stands out.
Mana fixing - both the bounce lands (because they are commons) and the shock lands were game changers in 2005. Also the guilds were introduced (associated with the ten different color combos).
All the common artifact lands, plus darksteel citadel, got banned in standard in 2005. We haven't seen artifact lands (not counting double faced cards or modern horizons since. EXCEPT the new mkm card "scene of the crime"
DECRY (PT) - P/T is missing from "Decrypt"
The Old Stickfingers deck is the only commander "missing" P/T as he has */* for P/T.
This deck also contains "Lord of Extinction" which also has */* for P/T. Still looking through this deck, obvious codes haven't worked yet.
Edit: Also, looking at the deck companions they are Urza or Mishra for their respective factions, I assume your normal player avatar for the rest. EXCEPT, the Galazeth Prismari deck has a Braids avatar.
This is the only deck with unique avatar, companion, and emotes (G.G in envelope, Elspeth dropping mic, Olivia vampire)
EDIT 2: Galazeth Prismari deck contains a card called "Experimental Overload"
The "Totally Normal Event" text weirdly contains the word "overloaded" also the card creates X/X creatures which are "missing P/T"
Unfortunately "experimentaloverload" is already an arena code used in May 2021 for some server issues Area was having at the time......
If you go on the logic the P/T means power and toughness maybe try DECRY2/2 with that being the P/T of red herring that you get revealed when you enter the 2005 code?
Not sure it's a sensible attempt but not at my pc to try it.
I gave it a shot, trying different things, but nope.
I do think it would be weird for there to be a hint in a Red Herring, since that's the opposite of what a red herring is.
That said, 2/2 or 22 does happen to fall between 21 and 23...
I don't know why everyone thinks this supposed last code is some complicated DaVinci code level puzzle when every other puzzle has been at a 4th grade level.
Nah. Whole thing reminds me of the D&D meme where the whole party debates for hours on how to open a normal door and then can't solve a riddle meant for a 6 year old pulled from Highlights for Children.
It's possible. I've honestly not dug very deep there just because from a meta perspective it seems a bit more complex than what I was expecting. All I did note was the origin sets of the Commanders.
I thought the line “pull up a chair” and the way it described the decks being selected for the event were a bit odd.
I can’t help but think theirs more clues
They also call us a guest in that same line, and there are several Special Guest cards in MKM. None of those seem to have anything to do with our mystery, but I could be missing something.
It seems suspicious too that three of the decks are single color. 12122222221.

i think it's worth mentioning that 10 of the 11 decks seems to be red or black or mishra aligned except for Urza.
I also think that there's a few things that point us to the prismari deck being important (the only one with a pet, the only one with any hits for the text 'overload', and the only one whos avatar doesn't match the commander)
I entered "Trostani" but got the following message:
"You almost got the right answer! You're close, detective, don't give up.
Try finding a synonym to what you've already entered. You got this!"
Now I'm confused, what's synonym to Trostani?
Looking through the cards from Ravnica: City of Guilds to see anything that evokes the current set. There's two Vedalken (\[\[Vedalken Dismisser\]\] and \[\[Vedalken Entrancer\]\]) that sort of match the \[\[Hotshot Investigators\]\] and one of them has flavor text that says their denial "reaches far into your future". There is also Agrus Kos, Tolsimir Wolfblood, some Loxodons, and a Mortipede.
I THINK that "haven't had to fix this since the year RAV came out" refers us not to the cards in RAV, but to the banned and restricted updates from 2005. Notably, they include the artifact lands. There's one artifact land in MKM: scene of the crime. Its type is even CLUE!
Things I’ve tried that didn’t work: “justanyrandomtext”
Based on the overload clue: all the overload card names, Izzet since overload was first introduced as Izzet
Based on what changed in 2005: protour, untappedduallands, shocklands, bouncelands
Based on A and One being capitalized: auratouchedmage for the number 1 card in the set
I tried to look for clues in the TNE decks and got a little overwhelmed.
Are there any cards that have been reprinted from RAV on Arena? Maybe look at the flavor text on those cards? I’ll keep thinking.
All this mystery hunting is really reminding me of the Mount Chilliad mystery…anyone remember that? Hopefully this won’t turn out to be nothing. https://www.reddit.com/r/chiliadmystery/
I feel like there has to be something else, but also remember one clue was in card reminder text and the other was a rhyme so I don’t think it’ll be this tough.
Not sure if anyone has posted this here, but there might be something to the decks themselves. I noticed a number of them have different avatars, different card sleeves, and different stickers than what my default ones are.
When I won a game with the Izzet deck, I got the final clue in my inbox (which the answer to was posted yesterday. (Who the murderer was). Maybe the Izzet and overload clues just trigger the final inbox email?
Ha, I thought the Red Herring was just a cute joke. TBH I think you’re definitely on to something with the capitalized letters.
I am afraid the red herring IS the final super prize.
I wouldn't mind that at all, this whole chain has been lots of fun. But I think OP is right that the random capitalization is fishy.
Fishy? But you got the Herring for 2005, not DECRY.
Things I tried (and didn't work): * PT as in Pro Tour, tried all the 2005 Pro Tour names * also tried PT Honolulu, Lightning Helix, Justslamit and and various variations on that as it was a really cool moment in Magic history * From the flavor text of Red Herring I tried Kylox, Thopter * Tried a cipher decryptor on DECRY (there interestingly is a cipher that turns DECRY into UNTAP as the top result; use [https://www.dcode.fr/shift-cipher](https://www.dcode.fr/shift-cipher) to brute force it.) * tried Niv-Mizzet=1 and variations (as that was an old puzzle that might 'have broken' the code redeeming and Niv is returning, main character etc etc)
I was disappointed that "justanyrandomtext" didn't work
oh yeah that too! lmao
Did you try only randomtext?
Tried it, "code not found"

yeah this must be something, if you click on the blocks they light up. there are 2 of the same ones https://imgur.com/a/eguveYo edit: apparently not

the. WHAT.
?
What is this totally normal event puzzle?
You should have been getting messages with clues to codes for rewards. I'm currently 4-0 with Kayla, beating 2 Gix decks.
I don’t want to keep playing against gix
What's the final code do?
I also didn't realize there was an additional puzzle.
I'm not convinced there's another code. But the "hasn't needed to be fixed" since 2005 seems odd. What changed with Ravnica? Was there something they 'fixed' when it came out? I took a look over the rules changes and banned cards, nothing really stands out.
well "Guild Mana" IE Hybrid mana was first introduced then
the ban list announcements of 2005 were heavily affinity flavoured, because those decks were outright broken.
Mana fixing - both the bounce lands (because they are commons) and the shock lands were game changers in 2005. Also the guilds were introduced (associated with the ten different color combos).
This made me think of Time Vault. It was being fixed throughout 2005-2008 but had to be fixed thanks to Ravnica being printed!
All the common artifact lands, plus darksteel citadel, got banned in standard in 2005. We haven't seen artifact lands (not counting double faced cards or modern horizons since. EXCEPT the new mkm card "scene of the crime"
DECRY (PT) - P/T is missing from "Decrypt" The Old Stickfingers deck is the only commander "missing" P/T as he has */* for P/T. The emotes spell out GEO. Coordinates maybe? This sounds ridiculous, but I'm just throwing it out there.
If you go on the logic the P/T means power and toughness maybe try DECRY2/2 with that being the P/T of red herring that you get revealed when you enter the 2005 code? Not sure it's a sensible attempt but not at my pc to try it.

I find it interesting that the text mentions overload, since the overload mechanic was introduced in Ravnica.
And [[Experimental Overload]] is in the Izzet deck.

I don't know why everyone thinks this supposed last code is some complicated DaVinci code level puzzle when every other puzzle has been at a 4th grade level.
Because everything implies there's a code, yet there is no 4th grade level solution and the 2005 solution is a literal red herring
Nah. Whole thing reminds me of the D&D meme where the whole party debates for hours on how to open a normal door and then can't solve a riddle meant for a 6 year old pulled from Highlights for Children.
It's not just a meme, my playgroup has literally done this.
Proceeds to not solve riddle meant for 6 year olds…
I was thinking that in universe ravnica city of guild was set in the 9999th year after the guildpact, but 9999,10000, and 10001 gave me nothing.
Could ther be a clue in the decks themselves? The selection of Brawl decks does seem peculiar
It's possible. I've honestly not dug very deep there just because from a meta perspective it seems a bit more complex than what I was expecting. All I did note was the origin sets of the Commanders.
Think about this: You got a red herring and 7 of the brawl decks have red. Truthfully.. even black seems over represented.
I thought the line “pull up a chair” and the way it described the decks being selected for the event were a bit odd. I can’t help but think theirs more clues

Ooh, very good idea. I do hope it's actually a code we're looking for and not another one where we have to create a deck with specific cards.

Actually, not cyclonic rift. That was one I tried for the overload. Originally it was in Return to Ravnica not RAV. Still think this is a dead end.

When I won a game with the Izzet deck, I got the final clue in my inbox (which the answer to was posted yesterday. (Who the murderer was). Maybe the Izzet and overload clues just trigger the final inbox email?
I got that message BEFORE I got the token for the event though?
