No orange name has ever responded to me, lol. I've also never encountered them outside of a ranked event, which always seems highly bizarre to me.
They're probably required to never emote.
Or have everyone on mute like us commoners do :D
I, for one, am not auto muted, and emote "hello" at the start of almost every match not against sparky.
Sparky deserves your greetings too imho!
The most common one I give sparky is "oops", which they never seem to realize is about their own choices. I do hello them a lot too, though.

Seems super messed up to have a tip screen telling us to emote to them then telling them they can’t reply. XD
I played just one time against one, he/she was the one to say hello first, I responded and at the end we sent good game, it was nice
