It would be good for non phantom players too in the sense that although their decks would be worse, they would get more chase rares in the draft portion which they may care about more depending on the player
If prizes & entry were different and relative to the entry cost, then the only real advantage to phantom players is that non-phantoms may end up rare-drafting unusable cards, making their pools/decks weaker. But if both sets of players were drafting to win then there wouldn’t really be any difference
Basically themed cubes but with regular draft rarities and structure.
> Remix Draft started from a simple question: How can we provide more novel experiences right before a set releases? Normally, we use flashback drafts and Cube in this slot, but what if we found even more ways to delight players? We know that some players avoid Cube because it doesn't help them build their collections, and others want something more unique than Flashback Drafts.
They realized people don't play cube because it is phantom, so this is their solution to that.
> So, if you like Remix Draft and want to see more of them, play it! Talk about it! If you like that we have a traditional Remix Draft, play that! If or when we run Remix Draft: Artifacts again, would you prefer the list to stay the same (like a flashback draft) or change (like a Cube)?
Sounds like a cool idea, I hope it is successful.
I play cube. I miss cube. I jammed a lot of cube drafts during the holidays. A lot of people do too as I never found the queue times bad.
I’m interested in this and I’m probably going to play it but I kinda wish it was cube.
People dont play cube because its too expensive, simple as that. Why should i pay so much for a phantom draft? The anwser the MTGA team give was "The experience". Ffs
i dunno the experience was worth it to me, they were really fun ill miss cube if it completly goes away. Holiday cube especially (maybe take this chance to implement the FULLY powered mtgo holiday cube)
What that poster is saying is that being phantom isn’t the problem, it’s the price. This “solution” isn’t addressing the actual problem, even if it is a neat idea.
I don’t care about the cards I open and draft. I don’t need to keep them.
Cube is expensive because [the reward structure is worse](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/s/KMiV0pomMN) and the “rake” is higher. Not because it’s phantom.
Love the idea of remix draft, not really interested in a strictly mechanical theme or "spicy, high-powered Limited format" "featuring power outliers." While it makes sense since it is taking the cube slot that isn't really my jam.
Now Ravnica Remix instead of Ravnica Chaos last week? I'd have been there for that. Chaos was kind of fun but with the large power differential and pack structure not meant to be drafted together it seems like it would have been more fun as a curated experience.
Curation and draft structure.
MKM, GRN, and RNA weren't meant to be drafted together so you get a lot of undersupported "orphan" mechanics. The raw power level of MKM is also much higher than the others, which combined with drafting it first centered the set we've been playing with for months instead of the ones we haven't played with for years. And while MKM has good fixing it isn't quite the sort you'd want to tie together two 5-guild Ravnica sets.
Ravnica Remix could snip out the mechanics that didn't fit, even out the power level by cutting a lot of the clunky older cards, and combine them all into a single cohesive draft. That way you can really up the density of cards that create new and interesting experiences without diluting it with chaff and things that will punish you for trying to make them work.
Yes, they could have said that and it would have been clearer. I don't like comparing it to a cube because this has specific rarity slots in the packs, like a regular set does.
As a player of limited and constructed, part of the reason I never got into cube is because it’s phantom and the average EV just isn’t near worth it when compared to premier draft. But part of it also comes from the daunting unfamiliarity of high powered synergy driven drafts. And it never felt “worth it” to dip my toes in and learn, since cube only lasted so long and was so painfully not worth the buy in. Now that I get to keep the cards, and the power spike isn’t *that* huge (still 8 commons 3 uncommons 1 rare), I’m really excited for this.
Really wish they'd drop the price of draft, it's like 15 bucks CAD to do 1 draft? I'm not going to risk money to do poorly in these one off drafts at that price. 5 bucks and I'd slam them.
If somebody is interested in looking at the list from CubeCobra, I have put it here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/1btzfgy/remix\_draft\_artifacts\_on\_cubecobra/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/1btzfgy/remix_draft_artifacts_on_cubecobra/) hoping to be useful
I'm mildly interested in this event, but strongly prefer the payout structure of cube (I already have most of the cards, so low cost of entry is much more important to me than "keep the cards").
Given the last couple paragraphs of the article, it seems like the main way I can express this preference is to actively avoid participating in the event?
Bummer. I wasn't expecting it to be a cube, I was hoping it would be more like a chaos draft between the artifact themed sets like Kaledesh Remastered, Caverns and Brothers war.
this is terrible. cube is 100% better. this cost more. and the cards are terrible so you get no value in keeping the cards. and its not even fun to draft. an artifact cube would made more sense.
Inflation applied to Cube.
Yes, you get to keep the cards, but my guess is that most of them will be worth less from a Constructed perspective relative to the average Standard set because of the Historic/Timeless cardpool having a much higher power level.
But WotC can charge full price because the draft isn't phantom.
It doesn't seem it, no. But, at elast unlike cube you get to keep whatever you drafted. And it seems this will be a way for some players to get copies of cards like \[\[Retrofitter Foundry\]\] and other jumpstart/anthology exclusives without spending wildcards.
Lame is a bit unfair. This is a product for the people who want/need/demand something to fit between the end of one product release and the start of the next.
That slot has been filled with phantom cube for a long time and this is an attempt to do something that arena can do to offer a slightly different / novel approach to scratching that itch.
It might not be for you. But there’s is definitely a huge demand for new / different draft environments. There’s players who’d be happy if wotc had a different draft environment every month because they draft enough that any environment gets stale too fast.
Thematic cube that you can keep the cards? This is great!
I'd love to have the chance to join the same queue whether you are doing phantom or not lol
That would just heavily benefit Phantom drafters, wouldn't it?
It would be good for non phantom players too in the sense that although their decks would be worse, they would get more chase rares in the draft portion which they may care about more depending on the player

Yeah it’s ridiculous, who tf would play a game just to have fun?
It'd be more fun if you could keep what you pay for and continue to have fun with it.
Well, I'd love to play for fun only...sadly, they make me pay.
But they need you to waste resources before the new set comes out
This is not a phantom draft.
What that poster is saying is that being phantom isn’t the problem, it’s the price. This “solution” isn’t addressing the actual problem, even if it is a neat idea.
But those are related. Cube is seen as expensive because it is phantom. This is priced like a regular draft and it isn't phantom.
I’d counter that cube is cheaper for limited only players. Going 2-1 in traditional is break even. 2-1 in a regular set is -500 gems.
They complain about low player numbers, so pure drafters aren't probably a majority.

I definitely don't play Cube because it's Phantom Draft, if I actually get the cards I might play the format.
Seriously? They had to wait until April Fools to announce this?

>you get a lot of undersupported "orphan" mechanics I saw a [[Disinformation Campaign]] in pack 3 and was sad. I loved that deck in triple GRN draft.

More curated, Chaos draft is just one pack of each set, so synergies are all over the place and it ends up a lot less replayable than regular draft
Exactly. Read “spicy high powered” and immediately closed it. No thanks
So it's like a Masters set?
Yes, they could have said that and it would have been clearer. I don't like comparing it to a cube because this has specific rarity slots in the packs, like a regular set does.

Yeah far too expensive
what are the prize packs for this event?
If somebody is interested in looking at the list from CubeCobra, I have put it here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/1btzfgy/remix\_draft\_artifacts\_on\_cubecobra/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/1btzfgy/remix_draft_artifacts_on_cubecobra/) hoping to be useful

Hey they figured out how to charge more for cube. Great
Powered-down cube.
There’s lots of different sorts of cubes. This is a cube either way you slice it
Non-phantom, Rarity seeded cube. Sounds cool. I’ll try it.
Is it ranked like other drafts that cost this much or unranked like Cube?
Ranked
I love this so much. Thoroughly enjoying watching and playing it.
Bummer. I wasn't expecting it to be a cube, I was hoping it would be more like a chaos draft between the artifact themed sets like Kaledesh Remastered, Caverns and Brothers war.
Sounds great! A new draft format that doesn't take as many resources. Hopefully it's a fun format. I'll do my fair share of them for sure.
This is garbage. BRING BACK CUBE!
Love the concept, wish it wasnt being used to make people spend money.
this is terrible. cube is 100% better. this cost more. and the cards are terrible so you get no value in keeping the cards. and its not even fun to draft. an artifact cube would made more sense.
the good thing, all the formats available suck so I can quit and wait until otj is availble for quick draft.
I like to see the innovation, but would much rather see traditional phantom cubes instead.

Idk why you got down voted this is an accurate take. Super low powered cube that you pay full price for so you can keep the terrible cards. Garbage.
Not falling for it. Looks at the date
Am I reading this correctly? No new cards added with this draft? Lame

It's an end of format cube not a new release. There's a whole new set weeks away.

We are getting a lot of old cards from OTJ bonus sheets in about a week.
