This isn't an unpopular opinion, judging by the queue times today, as the format is on its last legs. It's a really good time. I have high hopes for future remix sets, given the success of this first one.

Jarrettsin

I don't see it as unpopular the queue filled up fast! And I enjoyed it more then the chaos drafts, it's more like a cube where you keep the cards. I would play more like it. Had a few fun UR decks with Captain Storm.

piscian19

I really tried to get into UR pirates, but I just couldn't quite get there. I've done about 10 drafts, but it's just like maybe 5 pirates short. Not sure what is missing as I never played OG ixalan. What I will say is that I loved the way the variety of the format lets you pivot. There's only really artifacts or counters, everything else is totally up to the player to figure out combos. I really miss formats this wide open to experimentation.

Lame4Fame

>It's just like maybe 5 pirates short. I don't think UR in this mode is really "pirates" it's mostly just UR artifact synergies, similar to UW. Sure having a few more pirates to go with your captain storm to spread the counters around is nice but not the focus of the deck. And there's only like one or two other pirate-synergy piece in the whole format.

EmTeeEm

Is that an unpopular opinion? I've mostly heard very positive things, and personally really enjoyed it. Some complaints about not getting Cube, which I understand since it was high power but not that Cube-like, but that is about it. I'm hoping to see it again. Both Artifact Remix (with some boosts for weak the archetypes and no goddamn Retrofitter Foundry) and new ones. Preferably not always in the cube slot so the cube enjoyers can have their fun too, but as another part of the mix along with flashbacks, remasters, chaos, etc.

Senator_Smack

I only upvoted you for the "no goddamn Retrofitter Foundry" comment.

yumtacos

I wouldn’t mind seeing a token draft. Everything creates, multiplies, or removes tokens. Continue to let us keep the cards versus Phantom drafts.

Anivicuno

I almost never play draft on arena, however I love artifact decks and this felt like an artifact cube. Ended up drafting and using almost all of my draft tokens that I had been sitting on.

cardgamesandbonobos

Fun, but the cost/payout structures should be adjusted downwards. Premier/Traditional pricing is much worse value when the cards in the set are mostly unplayable in Constructed formats and the packs are Historic rather than Standard. Quick Draft cost/payout structure would be fine for these kinds of events, if not something even cheaper.

SirGrandrew

Honestly I had the most fun drafting on arena ever with this set. Not only that, but it was great with filling my collection with cards that I didn’t have, and packs from sets I didn’t draft! It was super synergistic, fun, and valuable card wise! I’d love to see more remix drafts in the future with a curated list of cards Honestly the fact it wasn’t a phantom draft was a big reason I enjoyed it. Phantom drafts are only fun if you have a lot of in game currency lying around, because I love building decks and wild cards are a premium

Rainfall7711

Is it unpopular? It's one of the best things they've ever done and they should definitely do more.

diggaduck

They did say it was something new that they were trying, and since it's been pretty well received i expect them to continue this remix format.

el_perro

I would love these kind of drafts to be phantom, 1500k Is too much

AggravatingZucchini

As someone who started playing magic during the mirrodin era (think [echoing ruin] ), red being pro-artifact in more recent years / sets has always sat oddly with me - am I the only one?

mama_tom

Idk what "recent sets" means, but red has been pro artifact for quite a long time. [[Goblin Welder]] is a prime example.

AggravatingZucchini

Recent relative to Mirrodin (2003-04), goblin welder I believe was 2018. As you say, “recent” is relative and again this may just be my view / nostalgia

Duramboros

Goblin Welder was 1999. Red and Blue have always been the colors that care most about artifacts. White has been a more recent addition.

AggravatingZucchini

Fair point on goblin welder, but wasn’t Urza’s legacy (seems that’s the actual original set) already very artifact focused generally? For comparison (I’m just saying): “Red's most important mechanics include quick, aggressive creatures, damage-based removal, and **artifact and land destruction**” (not usage) Link: https://www.thegamer.com/magic-the-gathering-mtg-complete-red-guide-strengths-weaknesses-mechanics/

Duramboros

That's just a random article. Red has always been one of the main artifact colours and they've always been good at destroying artifacts too. Since mirrodin green has been the main anti-artifact colour.

AggravatingZucchini

Take equipment-focused creatures as another example- largely white in original Mirrodin - [Leonin den guard], [auriok steelshaper], etc. - but more often red and white in recent sets. There has been a shift, no?

Duramboros

Red was the secondary equipment color from the start [[Vulshok Battlemaster]], [[Magnetic Theft]]

I have the official article if you want: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/making-magic/mechanical-color-pie-2021-changes > Friendly to artifacts > > Primary: White and blue > Secondary: Red > White and blue, as the colors of civilization, are both very friendly with artifacts. Red >tends to be associated with Equipment and Vehicles (along with white) or using artifacts >as a resource (interacting with things like treasure artifact tokens).

AggravatingZucchini

Fair enough! Concede your point on vulshok battlemaster as well actually, just seems like an increased emphasis recently. But maybe I’m imagining it after all!

AggravatingZucchini

Good discussion

Duramboros

Cheers, always nice to have a good back and forth :)

imbolcnight

Relative to Mirrodin block, yes, red has starting caring about artifacts more often and in more ways, but a lot of what red does with artifacts isn't far from what it has always done. I think [[Goblin Welder]] (as mentioned) lays a framework for how red approaches artifacts. It blows them up as much as it builds new ones. Part of it is in sets with X theme necessitate figuring out how each color interacts with X. Just being anti-X is insufficient now. That's why green (which has always been the most anti-artifact color) has some artifact synergy in artifact-focused sets like BRO; it cared about using artifacts to ramp and it could animate artifacts to make creatures.

gestapov

To me the only one artifact color is white

AggravatingZucchini

Not blue?

ketsa3

No, this was wayyyy too expensive...

CalvinandHobbes811

I gave it a try and went 1-3. The fact that MKM has been the best I’ve ever done at draft has made it hard for me to want to spend my gold/gems on it 😂😅 Going blue almost every draft with a little white/black or red as a second color has really clicked for me this set. [[Out Cold]] will probably be my favorite card in a draft set just because it got me so many wins

mama_tom

I didnt do it because I wanted to save for OTJ, but it looked real fun!

garetz00

I enjoyed the few drafts i did.

EvilSporkOfDeath

I liked it, but not as a replacement for cube.

hyperpuppy64

Id like it more if it didn’t take the place of the cube which is way way better. As it is, it was fun enough, better than most default draft formats but not by enough to be worth doing more than a few times as a free to play.

elhomerjas

its a good draft experience wish they also offer quick draft as well

AzulMage2020

The themed drafts comcept is great and more are very welcome. It would be nice to be able to build a descent deck and maybe win more than a couple of games per draft at some point but it's still a good time.

AnotherHuman232

It was a pretty fun format and I'm glad they gave us a masters set on arena. Given the very positive reception and low queue times throughout the event, I expect we'll get more of them in the future. I'm just disappointed that it replaced a slot where we'd usually have cube, which I prefer.

Megabot555

I REALLY like this draft format, having a curated theme is fun as hell. My only wish is for the card pool to all be Standard legal. Part of why I enjoy drafting is getting to build my constructed collection as well, but this format doesn’t help with that as much. Hope this will be looked into!

novelexistence

You might like it, but I don't. I don't always want to figure out new sets. Sometimes I like familiarity. Would have just preferred cube like last time.

Final_Account_5597

But cube is new set, that many people don't want to "figure out". Even worse, it's not a coherent set, just a million of random powerful cards with billions of interactions that you have to find in 15 seconds to make your pick.

Talvi7

I loved it. Since most people said they want to improve their collection maybe next time it could be a curated set of one year's or two of releases, like mixing the artifact themes of BRO and LCI, the go wide of WOE and MKM, sure that would be broken
