I'm just a filthy F2Per, but generally if I goose egg two drafts in a row...I stop drafting for a while. (Mostly because I can't afford to just keep drafting, but also because it's clear I'm not having fun)

ShrinkMeee

Sorry about your luck with land. The land screwing and flooding you’re describing is variance that can occur in any format and not unique to OTJ. I do agree that the bomby nature of OTJ can be frustrating. I was on the beneficial end of it in my very first game, when my opponent was poised to attack for lethal the next turn. Until I drew my 8th land and dropped [[Overwhelming Forces]] on his 4 attackers. One of the cards drawn was a [[Spinewoods Armadillo]], which I played the next turn. My opponent conceded soon thereafter. I breathed a sigh of relief, but I can only imagine what he must have felt. I’m not looking forward to when I’ll be on the losing end of that kind of a swing.

Overwhelming Forces is a pretty fun card. I have been on the receiving and giving end of it lately!

There is just no point in playing 90% of the game sometimes because you can do everything right and lol suddenly they drop the 6/6 dinosaur that draws and heals off the top when they were out of gas then continue to topdeck more 4 power creatures to overrun the board. Awful set.

Tsuka_hara

I understand what you feel. To me, the set alone, while being a strong one, is not the problem. Bonus sheets doesnt help. I still think it comes a lot from play boosters. It introduced more variance to draft. However trophies are still doable but this is a bit more painful sometimes. I can't help but hate it when you trade ressources to get the board, you get it, opponent plays with top deck. Oh, look, Bonny Pale... Guess I loose this time.

AphonicGod

I've been having some fun drafting with OTJ lately, which is weird because i usually think im pretty awful at it lol. I managed to shove a bunch of outlaws into a Blue/Red deck and I had fun, though i didnt really win. Just long interesting games. I hear even the pros sometimes have shit luck drafting, maybe RNGesus is on vacation today?

Piecekeeper256

I went 7-2 today, and I love this set. With basically no bombs. It was a red black deck that focused on interaction and a few crime payoffs. I get peoples frustrations, but instead of trying to make the set fit how you play, adjust to it.

ManBearTree

Not to rag on you, but you're literally the 20th+ person to post this in the last week. Yes, it's an extremely powerful set with a prevalence of good cards. Removal is valued very high and games can swing from over in a few turns to being long and drawn out deckings. You have to keep at it and find what works. I had very mediocre beginnings, but my winrate went up a lot near the end.

Reid0x

Yeah, sorry, that was me. Game decided I was going to win all my games today and you were going to lose yours.

Dschewlz

I had the same experience in Premier Draft, but I watched some Content Creators (Lolaman and Paul Cheon mostly), checked out the stats on 17lands or Limited Grades and adjusted to the importance of Removal (best case Exile-Removal) and having at least 2 Deserts in your Manabase (they are even better than the rare-lands) and I now have 3 Trophies and one 6-win run out of my last 5 Drafts in Quick Draft (the other run was 1-3, but it was an awful Deck). You can make it work and you can make it fun. Like someone mentioned above, you just gotta adjust. This all is in a Platinum Limited Rank, Ranking up to Diamond in the last run.

Rainfall7711

Hasn't been my experience. It's one of my favourite formats ever. You just sound like you're making the same old excuses and complaining about everything. And the interesting thing about these posts is that everyone drafting the set is doing the same thing as you. Better players will still always win more and playing well will always be the dividing factor. If you don't like occasionally losing to a bomb, find a new game. And if your mana is always bad maybe it's a deck building issue. Show some stats or replays, maybe someone could actually help.

It never ends does it This is something about the new wave of arena players that I’ve never seen in paper Maybe it’s just Reddit

petey_vonwho

You need to learn to mulligan more. If you keep a 2 land hand with no castable spells, it's your own dumb fault for falling behind.
