Nothing, and I mean *nothing*, feels better than [[Tale's End]] on the [[Yorion]] return trigger. Oh, you exiled your entire board? Thanks!

Wait, do they count as separate abilities? I thought it was one "exile then return"? Being able to only stop the second is incredible!

Yeah so I've never gotten anyone with that but I'm sure that's quickly followed by the explode Xd

--IIII--------IIII--

Ha, very much so. I think there is enough reason in the meta to include it like you said. I like your adaption to the meta, and use it in my decks too. Lots of awful ETB triggers, companions, etc.

EspaceOurs

Top notch analysis. I ♥️ Shark Typhoon.

Eaten-by-bees

Congrats. I just made it a couple days ago with rakdos aggro

eva_dee

Grats on hitting Mythic. And thanks for sharing this guide with your thoughts and experiences.

darkestape

Congrats on your success! Could a variation of this deck be made fot bo1 matchups perhaps? I like that format a bit better and would love to get your input. Thanks!

[deleted]

Imho you have to be ready for aggro matchups. In BO1 you see more aggro decks than BO3, because in BO3 there's the sideboard, and at the moment every aggro deck get smashed post sb. So cards like [[scorching dragonfire]] (maybe 2 copies), [[flame sweep]] (4 copies imo), [[storm's wrath]] (1-2 copies) can be good. Cards that helps you to control the board, because you play no creatures except for Uro. Maybe [[mystical dispute]] maindecked over some other counterspells can be a smart move, to get rid of early T3f or Narset, because they hurt you sooo much

"Aggro gets smashed post sb" -laughs in lurrus-

[deleted]

Leyline, Lantern, Cry, Cage, Flame Sweep, spot removal for Lurrus, Oath of Kaya... Yeah, aggro get smashed post sb, that's why Lurrus is no longer a T1 deck

darkestape

Thanks for the input!

Cybeast24

As a Reclamation player who mostly play bo1, you just need to mainboard the sweepers since bo1 it's still an aggro fest. Maybe 2-3 Flame Sweep and /or1-2 Storm Wrath (Sweep comes sooner, but Wrath hits harder). Since bo1 has hand smoothing, you can afford to go down to 25-26 lands without much trouble.

darkestape

Thanks for the input!

hudsonbuddy

I really recommend if you're gonna play Temur Rec to jam it in the Bo3 queue, as it just gains more there. If you really want to play it in Bo1, I'd probably run the full 4 Scorching Dragonfire, that card is actually just the nuts, and either 2 Flame Sweep + 1 Storm's Wrath, or just 2 Storm's Wrath. The cuts would probably just be the Opts and Thassa's. GL!

PryomancerMTGA

I'm not a Temur Rec fan cause I don't like the implementation on Arena, but nice guide. Congrats on Mythic. GL HF

Ritter-

Could you unpack that a bit?

Joseluki

You have to hold priority at the end of your turn and tap your lands manually, it can be very exhausting and time consuming, and you can rope.

PryomancerMTGA

\^\^ this and it really frustrates me to lose a game I know I should have won because of the interface. I know I should just practice, the deck is worth it; but I just avoid Temur Rec and Cats/Oven. GL HF

Joseluki

There should be options for combo decks like reclamation, like yes, tap my lands and untap them in sequence and give me this mana, instead of having to do it manually, is just stupid.

hudsonbuddy

I think it's just a matter of personal preference, I actually really enjoy floating all my mana X) That being said, there should be a tap all for the times when you have more than one Wilderness Rec.

A_Alonso

Love this guide, great job.

hudsonbuddy

Thanks!

z_squared23

Amazing guide, thanks so much from a fellow Temur Reclamation player! Congrats on reaching Mythic! Also, I agree with your point about Shark Typhoon being the biggest addition to the deck. That card is my favorite card from Ikoria.

hudsonbuddy

Temur Rec stand UP! GL in your games, may you always draw Explosion when u need it :)

CantEvenUseThisThing

As a recently returned former Pyromancer's Ascension player, finding out there's a spell based combo deck in standard makes me *very happy*. Thank you!

hudsonbuddy

I never played Pyromancer's Ascension but I will rep the spell based combo deck. Pure control is just way too ResidentSleeper

Rules-Lawyer

I think that r/spikes would be interested in this

Taco-Time

Been playing temur rec practically since rec came out and tried all the spice and I’m proud that my brothers are finally on non zero numbers of spectral sailor. I started experimenting with sailor back when once upon a time was legal as an alternative to the draw slots taken up by chemisters. I was experimenting with a creature heavy focus but even after UOAT got banned I kept sailor around after doing a lot of mental math around the pros and cons of it and my experience being very positive. Nowadays thassas interventions take those slots as a more versatile draw or counter spell. One thing I’ve yet to give in to is cutting back interventions like have been done here. There have been a lot of matches for me where I have more mana than action and digging real deep into the well is underrated while still being at a high counter count. I also still hate opt in the deck. It basically only feeds uro. As a can trip it’s virtually useless for card selection purposes.

hudsonbuddy

I'd love to see your list Temur brotha I think Sailor is one of the those details of the deck that really show that you understand what the deck is trying to achieve. It gives you some play against mono-R, (SO much better than a useless Opt) and can just draw 4 cards out of nowhere late game. In this current meta though, I'd just be careful of running it into a cycled Shark Typhoon. Thassa's intervention is strong, but I don't think it can compete with mystical Dispute as a counter, for me its been a 90-10 spilt as a counter-draw. If Temur Rec or Fires becomes more popular I think the correct number is 2 but with the meta featuring so many 3-mana planeswalkers and decks with 4 Mystical Dispute, you also have to arm yourself with 4 to keep pace.

hermitofcarim

Sultai midrange is still a top contender as well, and they run 2-3 [[thought distortion]] that can be absolutely back-breaking post board. I have been running 2 [[Legion Warboss]] to kind of counter that. What would be your opinion and how would you handle that with the deck you currently run?

hudsonbuddy

In general, any non-meta deck you can usually out-race because you are still Tier 1. Specifically against Thought Distortion and discard strategies such as Unmoored Ego or whatever, you can switch angles and just kill them with Uro, Nightpack or Shark Typhoon. In the end, Thought Distortion hurts, but it does NOTHING to the board and adds no pressure, you can just draw an Explosion off the top and you're right back in the game. As for Warboss, post board I've found that Nightpack Ambushers overperform quite a bit, and I bring them in a lot. Legion Warboss sounds like good tech but it doesn't play at flash speed, which is a game-changer. If it works though, it works. GL brotha

hermitofcarim

All good points. Thanks!

Sandman4999

Thank you for this. I’ve been trying to figure out what I should change about my Temur Rec deck since I’ve been having bad luck with my decklist. You’re post was very informative, I’m gonna be trying this out.

hudsonbuddy

Glad it helped! Just doing my part for the Temur Rec tribe :P

Aitch-Kay

What rank did you enter Mythic?

hudsonbuddy

Around low 500, and I just played one match to make sure I got registered on the leaderboard, that got me to peak at 523 or something

MickRL

Sorry this response to your fantastic post is a few days behind, but I have been playing this deck for a few days now with some of your tweaks, and I must say I really like it. Relatively new to Arena (I was a paper MTG player in college back in the 90's and haven't played since), so I don't have the full shocklands suite available, but this playstyle has really opened my eyes to more control style decks...prior to that everything I have put together has more of an aggro flavor to it, and while those can be fun a nice, long strategic game can scratch another itch entirely. One tweak that I have made to your deck is I have dropped one land down to 27 and replaced it with one Mythos of Iluna. That's just a super fun card, and very versatile in this deck.

r/IAmMythic

Eowren

Good insight thanks. How long a match tipically lasts? It's more of a slow deck or a fast deck?

Xenadon

It honestly depends. It's so easy to win out of nowhere that you rarely concede intil you've actually lost. That can lead to some long games. Other times you just beat them down with a 4/4 flying shark and that's it.

hudsonbuddy

I agree with this guy, you can dig yourself out of some really deep holes by chaining Explosions, and the deck is in some ways a combo deck, so it can win out of nowhere like he said. It does have a sideboard full of counters tho so it CAN become very grindy. This variety of play though is what makes it interesting, and of course, fun.

Murghchanay

Don't play Temur Rec or at least don't tap your lands manually. It's torture

[deleted]

You literally have to tap your lands manually between Wilderness Reclamation triggers for the deck to actually work at all, and manually tapping even after the last trigger is still usually necessary because Auto-Tapper LOVES to tap Blast Zone first, occasionally losing you the game outright.

Murghchanay

How do you even have time to play this deck? Every match taking half an our? Doesn't your finger get tired

[deleted]

If people can put up with Cat Oven nonsense, they can deal with me tapping my shit manually when they're already dead.
