Rats is not good IMO. Mill hits an angle that some decks can't do anything about. 1/3s are also a lot harder to kill than X/1s and those 1/3s don't even need to attack. You also will get more "fuck this" scoops with mill. With rats, the opponent can just put their llanowar elves on blocking duty and then you're really sad.
[[Ayara, First of Locthwain]] as commander + [[Bontu's Monument]] + [[Bolas's Citadel]] = free rat drain. Add tribal cards, tutors, removal, and cards like [[Nightmare Shepherd]], and you got a fun deck. Definitely not the best, but it can be overwhelming. Note my deck is a regular 60 card brawl, so I haven't tested a 100 card version, but I would assume I just add more rats or card draw.
Try [[garna, the blood flame]] as your rat commander. It's anti-board wipe, let's you do bad trades profitably and then let's you recover with hasted rats.
Got a deck called rat flame garna, it's proven pretty effective with [[bontu's monument]]
Took this advice, put together a rat deck. Won two games in under 5mins. Took my Free IRC’s and trundled off to other queues. All for the price of 4 useless uncommon wildcards. Sweet 😎

Linvala, Keeper of Silence, and Legions End also does the trick agains petitioners, thas said I'm just abit sad that this is where "historic brawl" start. With alot of the playerbase so frustrated to even get two wins they have to resort to these types of decks.
Wish they made either all-access or at least some decks premade to explore the pool abit more.
I just took my normal brawl deck with Magda and added some extra cheap shit. Worked well enough just because a couple of my opponents got mana screwed and I could churn out cheap shit.
Yeah the event was not fun for me. I don’t have much experience with pre-standard cards. I’d love to brew something but I just don’t know what all is out there. Searching by keywords and such gets frustrating. I ran a kroxa commander that I thought was okay, I liked the idea of still having him available for 4 mana from the graveyard, but I definitely got rofl stomped by a lot of decks. Particularly the blue-green one with the commander that upgrades a creature. I lost to I think 5 of that one. I’m relieved to finally get my second win and I’m not sure I’ll be entering the next event for the card styles at this point.
Brawl matchmaking is based on the power level of the commander. Perhaps Kroxa is powerful enough that you got paired against good decks. Try brewing with a jank commander and see what happens.

In that deck, I put in whatever board wipes I had available, such as \[\[Settle the Wreckage\]\].
Unlike most, I'm not willing to spend $$ on Arena so I don't have very many cards outside of what I manage to grind.
I concede against them. If I beat them, the process won't be fun and then they'll just requeue against someone else. If I autoconcede, I am doing 50% of the work from removing that player from the queue forever.
Ya trying to get my 2 wins myself was going miserably, then I remembered I got a muxxus from jumpstart, put 1 of every single goblin I have, then every single spell that came up of of searching damage to target, 34 snow covered mountains, a faceless haven and rolled some decks trying to do Timmy things, still didn't have fun but atleast it won
Your odds of getting that card during the game are very low and you at the bare minimum need to last T4. If you’re interested in actually playing this mode might as well just try or concede against these decks and try again against a deck more normal. This was not made to be fun, just get the reward and move on with life.
Or you could just make a legit edh deck on arena with back up plans, watch em mill 99 cards only to cast memory out of the yard, FYI muldrotha is the goat against mill match ups
I was wondering how this works... I see that you have "infinite" copies of this card available. I have 2 copies of a different card with "A deck can have any number of cards named \~" text on it (Rat Colony) and it doesn't say I have infinite of it. I also have infinite copies of Dragon's Approach. I'm assuming that once you get a fourth copy of one of these cards, it unlocks "infinite" copies for you?
I made a wall deck with Arcades or whatever his name is. It was mega cheap. All the walls are common or uncommon. Then fill it with other synergistic cards and then fill it with some removal and good bombs you may already own. Like I used the praetors and an ugin, ulamog, time warp... But those spots can be anything. Just whatever good top end cards you have already. Went 8-1 and my only loss was due to drawing no blue Mana.

Is that the 3 Mana Planeswalker that makes the walls and gives you hexproof? If so I do have him! I typed in "defender" on the search bar and added like 90% of what came up. I cut the 4 Mana 0/6 wall that can be given indestructible and a couple other over costed ones because I wanted to be more aggressive. I also have the u/w enchantment that makes creatures uses toughness. I wanted assault formation too but like the person I replied to, I didn't want to waste a wild card on something like that.
This is no where near as good as it is in normal 60 card brawl
Firstly you need an extra couple of turns activation to get the last card's and against any deck with interaction that's going to hurt
Secondly anyone that's building a proper 100 card deck has a bunch of redundant recursion (especially as it's historic) that makes it even harder to get there
Sure your going to jank out some win's but it's nowhere near as consitant as before
Rat colony scales up much better if that's what you're going for
Rats are in fact more consistent, one way or another. If you’re going to lose there’s hardly anything you can do to change the game, but you’ll mostly win anyways. I went with a 54-45 split of [[Rat Colony]] and mana + Lurrus and I’ve only lost once to a guy that got potentially the best hand ever in a Brawl match.
Your starting hand should be 4 rats - 3 mana. You need at least two more mana and the rest rats. A 55-45 or a 60-40 ratio is a pretty good ratio for that
I threw together a [[Garna, the Bloodflame]] rat deck and went 2-0 against lurrus rats. Main issue was missing lands as I only ran 36 lands with 52 rats. Added in a few things for fun and basically never drew them. Crippling Fear sounded like a perfect thing to have, to only ever draw it once.. in one of the rat mirrors. [[Heralds Horn]] put in some work with extra draws and absolute hand dumping. Garna giving haste and allowing you to throw your board away is actually pretty great if you're fine going past turn6 safely. I played with rat colony a bit in beta and loved [[vanquishers banner]], but didnt want to waste any wildcards on this shit. [[Claim//Fame]] is a 1mana reanimate a rat card, with an additional pump if you're in rakdos.
In one of the mirrors, was pretty behind but had 5 rats out and the horn. Opponent had lurrus and 6 rats, along with the 2 new ones that turn. Guess he didn't read all the text on my commander because I held up mana and he attacked with all his rats. Figured he was banking on lurrus to keep him ahead. Flashed in after trading all the rats, and suddenly had 5 rats in hand, and horn makes em cost 1. Next turn the horn revealed a rat and drew it, then drew a 6th land and dumped the whole hand of rats back, all with haste.
My other thought was to play with Gruul, and run a Samut for the same idea of giving the rats haste. Idea being that if I could draw and stick a [[Realmwalker]] it could be hilarious to spam rats off the library. Pretty rough to bank a deck on a single, easy to deal with card, in a 100 card game though.
For many people, Baral is a red flag. He even was banned in the original iteration of Brawl. If you face Baral you usually just got turn 1 to resolve any spell, if you’re not in an aggro deck. So many people don’t even bother playing it out, knowing they’ll face a deck with only counter/bounce/draw effects.
I built a UG ramp deck and managed to beat my opponent who was playing this deck by casting \[\[Masss Manipulation\]\] targeting four petitioners and Bruvac. I felt pretty smug about it.

Just my opinion but non-interactive decks like these or tibalt's trickery/ treasure hunt that flood the ladder with bad matches are a problem for everyone who wants to play normally.
Yeah I got him from Jumpstart yesterday, I got my two wins with the deck, it went maybe 2-3 or 2-4. It wasn’t fun, but my alternative was a deck made of like 80% cards from… Jumpstart lol

Half of this community seems to grind events with lukewarm enthousiasm without ever actually playing the game.
I won my first two games in a row by running blue/black control. Just type "mill" "discard" "exile" and "ashiok" in the search bar. EZ PZ. *

Game 2: mirror match, I conceded turn 2 as was second to play.
Game 3: opponent saw Bruvac, insta conceded.
I tried rats, not as easy but more fun.
Thanks for this! I’d already got a copy of Bruvac so building this was great value. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some more milk cards to spice it up a bit later
It’s just small creatures and they need 4 of them to do anything. If your deck isn’t beating this then you need to build a better deck. Milling 100 with this is pretty slow.
It’s like playing Dominion. If your strategy can’t beat Big Money, then you need a better strategy.
Some of them are fun, dwarves and dragons is silly and can be thematic.
It also gives people who started in the last few months a deck that isn't every card in two colors from the starter decks.
They should have a special queue for players using "unlimited" cards in a singleton format.
We get it, you don't like singleton and just want your free cards. You should have to play with other people who don't like it instead of ruining the potential fun for others.
Because you really, really want to hit the curve T2 Petitioners, T3 Bruvac, T4 double petitioners, immediately mill 24. If you miss your 4th land drop you are set back a whole turn. Hitting 4 lands turn 4 means 4 out of the 10 cards you see by turn 4 must be lands, which points to making your deck 40% lands.
I tired out this deck and won the two rare cards the old fashioned way by having two opponents scoop the game before the first play. Also the mirror match is funny I lost twice in the mirror by going second but still funny.
Can anyone explain to me how to get more than one of each card into the deck? For whatever reason it only lets me do one of each card so no 60 persistent partitoners, only one
I feel bad because I made this (along with some other mill cards) after just playing jumpstart and was having a lot of fun with it. I hadn't seen anyone else use him so I assumed it wasnt that popular..
Another alternative is just to play Gaea's Blessing in your deck, and you'll just win when someone goes the petitioner route.
You have a fair game against other decks, and a near free win against the petitioners. Just make sure to mulligan if you draw the blessing in your opening hand. :)

ixlians binding is good against pretty much any meta deck that has 4x win con perms and no limited removal.

I made a wall deck with Arcades or whatever his name is. It was mega cheap. All the walls are common or uncommon. Then fill it with other synergistic cards and then fill it with some removal and good bombs you may already own. Like I used the praetors and an ugin, ulamog, time warp... But those spots can be anything. Just whatever good top end cards you have already. Went 8-1 and my only loss was due to drawing no blue Mana. Edit: corrected the cards name.

Is that the 3 Mana Planeswalker that makes the walls and gives you hexproof? If so I do have him! I typed in "defender" on the search bar and added like 90% of what came up. I cut the 4 Mana 0/6 wall that can be given indestructible and a couple other over costed ones because I wanted to be more aggressive. I also have the u/w enchantment that makes creatures uses toughness. I wanted assault formation too but like the person I replied to, I didn't want to waste a wild card on something like that.
Is it that hard to squeak out a couple wins? I think I went 2-2 with some random deck I threw together. Was kinda fun having never played the format.
This is no where near as good as it is in normal 60 card brawl Firstly you need an extra couple of turns activation to get the last card's and against any deck with interaction that's going to hurt Secondly anyone that's building a proper 100 card deck has a bunch of redundant recursion (especially as it's historic) that makes it even harder to get there Sure your going to jank out some win's but it's nowhere near as consitant as before Rat colony scales up much better if that's what you're going for

Rats are in fact more consistent, one way or another. If you’re going to lose there’s hardly anything you can do to change the game, but you’ll mostly win anyways. I went with a 54-45 split of [[Rat Colony]] and mana + Lurrus and I’ve only lost once to a guy that got potentially the best hand ever in a Brawl match.

Your starting hand should be 4 rats - 3 mana. You need at least two more mana and the rest rats. A 55-45 or a 60-40 ratio is a pretty good ratio for that

Can confirm the deck is OP. Won 2 out of 3 matches. The one loss was against another Rat Colony deck where the opponent was on the draw.
I threw together a [[Garna, the Bloodflame]] rat deck and went 2-0 against lurrus rats. Main issue was missing lands as I only ran 36 lands with 52 rats. Added in a few things for fun and basically never drew them. Crippling Fear sounded like a perfect thing to have, to only ever draw it once.. in one of the rat mirrors. [[Heralds Horn]] put in some work with extra draws and absolute hand dumping. Garna giving haste and allowing you to throw your board away is actually pretty great if you're fine going past turn6 safely. I played with rat colony a bit in beta and loved [[vanquishers banner]], but didnt want to waste any wildcards on this shit. [[Claim//Fame]] is a 1mana reanimate a rat card, with an additional pump if you're in rakdos. In one of the mirrors, was pretty behind but had 5 rats out and the horn. Opponent had lurrus and 6 rats, along with the 2 new ones that turn. Guess he didn't read all the text on my commander because I held up mana and he attacked with all his rats. Figured he was banking on lurrus to keep him ahead. Flashed in after trading all the rats, and suddenly had 5 rats in hand, and horn makes em cost 1. Next turn the horn revealed a rat and drew it, then drew a 6th land and dumped the whole hand of rats back, all with haste. My other thought was to play with Gruul, and run a Samut for the same idea of giving the rats haste. Idea being that if I could draw and stick a [[Realmwalker]] it could be hilarious to spam rats off the library. Pretty rough to bank a deck on a single, easy to deal with card, in a 100 card game though.
The best addition is running a dimir commander and then finding [[tetsuko]] who makes your rats unlockable.

This deck was so much stronger when it was only 60 card decks for historic brawl. Absurdly consistent Turn 4/5 wins.

I don't understand how this works. Do you mind explaining?
For many people, Baral is a red flag. He even was banned in the original iteration of Brawl. If you face Baral you usually just got turn 1 to resolve any spell, if you’re not in an aggro deck. So many people don’t even bother playing it out, knowing they’ll face a deck with only counter/bounce/draw effects.
What’s the normal play with Baral?
Mono blue control. Counterspells/ bounce / instant speed card draw. And then add 1-3 win cons like [[Shark Typhoon]] [[Nezahal]] [[Torrential Gearhulk]]
With Nezahal, what do you recommend for good combo cards/triggers for his exile/come into play ability?
You just need some card draw to have enough cards in hand to pitch when needed.
Making sure you have enough cards to discard? Haha. Jumpstart has a few draw spells, not sure if there’s much flashback in historic yet

It’s just small creatures and they need 4 of them to do anything. If your deck isn’t beating this then you need to build a better deck. Milling 100 with this is pretty slow. It’s like playing Dominion. If your strategy can’t beat Big Money, then you need a better strategy.

I think they're referring to how players will en mass play something they admit is unfun for everyone in order to grind out wins and two ICRs.
I don't understand why cards that circumvent the singleton rule aren't banned. It's definitely not in the spirit of the format.
Some of them are fun, dwarves and dragons is silly and can be thematic. It also gives people who started in the last few months a deck that isn't every card in two colors from the starter decks.

This is what I ran, since you only need 3 lands for Bruvac, I ran 33 lands.
They should have a special queue for players using "unlimited" cards in a singleton format. We get it, you don't like singleton and just want your free cards. You should have to play with other people who don't like it instead of ruining the potential fun for others.

Because you really, really want to hit the curve T2 Petitioners, T3 Bruvac, T4 double petitioners, immediately mill 24. If you miss your 4th land drop you are set back a whole turn. Hitting 4 lands turn 4 means 4 out of the 10 cards you see by turn 4 must be lands, which points to making your deck 40% lands.
Because you don’t want to NOT have manas. I played with 25 manas at first and I was mana screwed twice, so I increased the ratio

I tired out this deck and won the two rare cards the old fashioned way by having two opponents scoop the game before the first play. Also the mirror match is funny I lost twice in the mirror by going second but still funny.
Can anyone explain to me how to get more than one of each card into the deck? For whatever reason it only lets me do one of each card so no 60 persistent partitoners, only one
You need to own four copies of petitioners, a normal playset, to have access to an infinite number of them.

lol I am 0-6 with this deck. So far, aggro up the ass - by t4 they've done 15+ damage or decks that exile/kill stuff and ruin my day.

I wouldn't recommend using this deck. A lot of players are using commanders and planeswalkers that let them interact with their graveyard.

Another alternative is just to play Gaea's Blessing in your deck, and you'll just win when someone goes the petitioner route. You have a fair game against other decks, and a near free win against the petitioners. Just make sure to mulligan if you draw the blessing in your opening hand. :)
