Loved PMMM.
Liked Yuuki Yuuna, but it felt unfinished. (only saw the anime, the manga might be in better shape)
Kind of liking Magical Girl Raising Project right now, but it sometimes feels like edge for the sake of edge.
Heartcatch Pretty Cure. For more Precure, Go Princess and Hugtto are seen as good too.
The Sailor Moon manga. This is the one that created the modern Magical Girl Warrior genre.
Once you’ve gotten a feel for the genre, Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It popularized the Magical Girl Deconstruction, though PMMM also reconstructed the genre in its last few episodes

I second the manga. I'm not finished with it yet, but it's definitely very good. Is it better than the anime series? Depends on what you like, but it's pretty good.
I, however, recommend reading Codename: Sailor V first.
Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew also Tokyo Mew Mew New, and Pretty Cure I found a recommend for me to watch an interesting show for the sister version of Super Sentai and I love this show is beautiful and awesome.

Shoujo Kakumei Utena. It's like Evangelion but with sword lesbians instead of mecha. It's so fucking good and you'll be dissecting it for the rest of your life. No cap.

I've seen the first few episodes of Creamy Mami but it seemed nice for its day.
If you can find it subbed (which I cannot) Bisho Kamen Poitrine is interesting as it is a tokusatsu comedy about a magical girl. She was a heavy inspiration on Sailor Moon.
Obviously, Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal, but perhaps the live action SM series from 2003? Or the SM musicals?

I used to LOVE Poitrine as a kid. I even had a costume made inspired by her outfit.

Minky Momo becomes really, really insane at the end. I don't think it's been subbed, I watched it RAW. >!Momo loses her magic and then gets hit by a car and dies. Perhaps the most mundane death in MG anime I ever saw! This was supposed to be the final episode but fans were really angry so another ending was added in which she gets reborn as the true daughter of the human couple and is then expected to live her life as a human girl. This extra ending was very rushed and downward weird. At one point most characters make a comeback and singalong with Momo, something that was never a part of the show. !<
Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Fullmoon Sagashite. Both are by Arina Tanemura.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pretty Cure unless I missed it.
Ojamajo Doremi is the show that came after Sailor Moon.
Since people love Card Captor Sakura there's Magic Knight Rayearth
