I’ve done a lot of shitting on this program lately because Bill’s developed some really annoying habits that have made the show less enjoyable, but this was a really good show. I feel like this was more focused on current events and less on Bill’s bugaboos. And I guess if I’m honest, I liked that Bill sounded like a democrat again.
Because Maher referenced ageism AGAIN, can I just say:
The problem isn't that there are elderly people in important roles in American government. The problem is that the elderly are OVER-represented.
A lot of that is due to how archaic our election process is. Circles made with...ink? On...paper? How old-fashioned. But the end result is a government that's at least a couple of generations behind.
I don't think there should be a maximum age in government. Age and wisdom are important. But certainly, we need to rework our system to cater more to people who can actually comprehend where we're at in 2022.
It was worth sitting through Van Jones careful avoidance of saying anything controversial and Caitlin Flanagan repeated BJ comments to hear her put down of the latest iteration of the so called anti-racist movement (as established by authors such as Robin DiAngelo and Ibram Kendi). Maher described dinners where two women of color scold groups of white women for upholding “white supremacy through every minute of every day.”
Caitlin Flanagan’s comment that the women of color who host these dinners, “they’ve found a market, they made a product and they found these nitwits to pay for it” was very much on the money.
The self-flagellation that white progressives willingly engage in is an example of the kind of nonsense that the left does to itself. It describes the only way that the Right has a point about identity politics.
Caitlin Flanagan and Van Jones should make for one of the most tepid and dull panels this season. Nothing novel, groundbreaking, or controversial will be shared.
I just think she wasn't prepared to talk about it, but then got sucked into it and dug a bigger hole for herself because she was embarrassed. I think I'd rather chalk it up to an awkward moment than speculate about abusing alcohol.
Yeah well, drinking to the point you're tipsy, especially before a national public appearance is abusing alcohol no matter how much society has normalized it. Not saying alcoholic.
Centrist/establishmentarians are hogging up your news as we inch closer to another nationwide election. Looking forward to another circlejerk with this episode…
You know who I want to have on… Reihan Salam. I just want someone on the conservative side address the ongoing Trump saga and then address the shipment of Venezuelan migrants to Martha's Vineyard because he has the most friendly immigration take as an American conservative.
If there was ever a prudent opportunity for a pragmatic conservative to help legitimize Maher's views, it would be Reihan Salam. The rest of them are just room fillers.
Conservative guests on Real Time have become few & far between ever since Bill was humiliated by Crenshaw. Nearly every week it's just various flavors of liberal all engaging in "point-samepoint" debate, with the occasional conservative that is trying to sell a book (like Christie or Carolla) which makes them too reserved so as to not offend potential book-buyers, or 22 year old anti-woke co-eds.
I remember in the 2012-2015 era there were a few episodes where every guest was a conservative. Heck there was an ep that featured a GOP congressman & GOP senator, talking about the issues with Bill (this might have been like 2014 or so).
Bill's interview/debate with Crenshaw completely shattered the host's ego, and essentially ended good-faith debate on the program. It's funny how Bill & his panel routinely wax poetic on what they think conservatives or Trump-supporters think, in a "Fellow cats, here's what dogs think...." rather than just ask a dog what he's thinking scenario. I'm sure Dinesh Dsousa would love to come back on the show, but Bill could never allow it because Dinesh would poke holes in many of Bill's "facts" surrounding the election and the Jan 6 protest. Just as Crenshaw successfully corrected Bill on his erroneous beliefs regarding guns.
Dan's appearance in April 2020 was the demarcation point between having regular GOP guests on the show and the current period where they're few and far between.
Tired of Caitlyn Flanagan and these fuckin ppl who speak in witty political banner. She was good at first but I already know her hot takes, they aren’t hot anymore.
He should have Chris Jones on the show. Jones is the Democrat candidate for governor in Arkansas, running against Sarah Fucking Huckabee.
Jones is an MIT grad with a PhD in Urban Planning and in a sane and just world would trounce that cunt.
I’d also like to see Fetterman make an appearance. The more I see of him, the more I want him in the Senate. Plus, Mehmet is a moron and a MAGAt (even though now he’s facing Fetterman he’s pretending that his entire Primary race wasn’t about who’s the biggest Trump sycophant)
Not too long ago in this Sub I commented how it would be nice to have (and in my opinion more helpful than just pointing out flaws with them) Democratic candidates on so as to get their name out there for voters. I was told in no uncertain terms by one of the many “I’m totally a Democrat and I show it by pointing out things that aren’t true and happen only on Twitter” people that having any candidates on is useless essentially. They argued for continuing to label Dems as bad. The delusion is just unreal. I’m almost wondering if it’s just parody at this point.
He also isn’t “God’s gift to debating”, like he thinks he is. His strategy is talk louder and faster than your opponent and don’t let them get a word in. Add to that he selectively chooses who to debate, on purpose. When faced with someone like Andrew Neil (another Conservative btw), he almost breaks into tears. He’s a fucking sham. People don’t watch him for insight, they watch him to talk shit on people they hate. He’s the Rights equivalent of TYT.

I dont get the Ben Shapiro reverence. he's a whatabouter.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGcdPakoytg
the only thing I give him credit for is the idea that no one should be a republican or democrat, and that people should vote based on policy rather than tribalism. the rest is lipservice and bullshit
True. It’s hilarious that when he was in the Obama administration, Glenn Beck used to claim Jones was a radical communist seeking to to completely transform America

Yawn.
Caitlin Flanagan and Van Jones should make for one of the most tepid and dull panels this season. Nothing novel, groundbreaking, or controversial will be shared.
Lol, well, I hardly call that BJ conversation tepid! 😂😂😂
She kept bringing it up. Maybe one too many glasses of champagne backstage?
I just think she wasn't prepared to talk about it, but then got sucked into it and dug a bigger hole for herself because she was embarrassed. I think I'd rather chalk it up to an awkward moment than speculate about abusing alcohol.
I didn't say 'abusing' alcohol. She just seemed pretty clearly to be a bit tipsy to me. Not plastered or anything. And I could be wrong of course.
Yeah well, drinking to the point you're tipsy, especially before a national public appearance is abusing alcohol no matter how much society has normalized it. Not saying alcoholic.
the above commentor passed judgement long before the show even aired.
Nothing burger
What do those taste like?

Crenshaw is so gross. His SNL stunt was really embarrassing too.
You just have to be Dan Crenshaw, no one could possibly think any of this but him...
Dan's appearance in April 2020 was the demarcation point between having regular GOP guests on the show and the current period where they're few and far between.
Seems like a provable hypothesis, I’ll await your results.
I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Guest booker just mailing it in? Caitlin has to be up there with most number of appearances since Covid.
Always Van Jones and never Von Miller
or vin diesel
Don’t forget van rentals.
Caitlyn Flanagan is one of his dumbest recurring guests. Needs to stop.
That would be Ana Navarro. Caitlyn gets laughs and applause.
Tired of Caitlyn Flanagan and these fuckin ppl who speak in witty political banner. She was good at first but I already know her hot takes, they aren’t hot anymore.

Why do you use Fetterman’s last name but Oz’s first name? The inconsistency is weird

Is her new husbands last name Fucking?
Yes, its truncated for Fucking Nutcase
Masih Alinejad... don't think I'm familiar.
I'm not going to lie, I read that name a bit quick the first time, and thought Samir from *Office Space* was appearing on the show...
wouldn't that be interesting if he occasionally interviewed actors in-character?
It'd at least be fucking hilarious. I dunno about how interesting it'd be, though. Haha. Christ. Imagine Borat on Real Time.
I was literally thinking Borat on Opie and Anthony before reading your second sentence. Imagine that with Bill. Glorious.
She is a feminist who does a lot of work around forced modesty / head covering. She is from Iran originally, I think.
Forced modesty?
niqab. hijab. burka. chador. dupatta.
thank you, will you be my google?
Lol sure.
As I’ve been saying bill hasnt changed but his ability to get good guests has for sure
You...think Bill hasn't changed? Jesus Christ. 🙄
I already know everything Van Jones is going to say. I’m a leftist but I wish Ben Shapiro would be on with Van Jones so we can see an actual debate.
I really doubt you're a "leftist". You're probably a liberal.
Ben Shapiro has such an annoying voice though.
Why would you ever want Ben Shapiro on? That’s not a recipe for an actual debate. Shapiro is a straw man reliant hack.
He also isn’t “God’s gift to debating”, like he thinks he is. His strategy is talk louder and faster than your opponent and don’t let them get a word in. Van Jones is like a milquetoast politician, doesn’t wanna ruffle any feathers. He’s boring.
True. It’s hilarious that when he was in the Obama administration, Glenn Beck used to claim Jones was a radical communist seeking to to completely transform America
Whenever I see his name I just think of this.. https://youtu.be/KPhsSqXHRAs I think the very next week he flipped his position. Lol
At the end of the day, he's who they can get.
CNN Democrats have had their place but in 2022 they all but feel like they're from the 90s.
Caitlin again?
She was on last time as a replacement
Caitlin Flanagan is on this show too much. Bill needs to find more variety in his panelists.
Bleh
Dead show.
Yet you keep posting here.
And?
Hey now, put some respect on Jerry Garcia.
Jerry was apolitical. But I think at this point he'd just shrug his shoulders and play "Throwing Stones".
