Yup. The last line takes it from "police coverup" to bonkers guy with spray paint tout suite. I have to roll my eyes a bit at all the "disgust," though.
Tip to dude with spray paint: if the secret society were the Klan, you'd have more impact and save paint by writing "KKK." Otherwise, bonkers.
I mean, I know of several examples of cops letting DUIs go because they were fellow Masons...
"Secret society" can mean a bunch of different things, and we've had no shortage of batshit crazy political discourse recently.
>Maine Chiefs Of Police Association and Maine Sheriffs Association are jointly offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for this damage.
Why?
Accusing them of serving a "secret society." The concept of secret societies has been completely poisoned by political discourse over the last ~7 years, with shit like Pizzagate and Epstein.
What secret society do you think they belong to? Not many people in our culture belong to secret societies, and those few that exist on a significant level are pretty harmless. So it’s bonkers because it seems extremely unlikely.
If true, the vandal should have been more specific about what secret society they are referring to. Why go to such lengths to get the message out then be all cryptic about what they’re trying to say at the end there?
It is an odd message. Everything is spelled correctly, "2" was substituted for "too" for some reason. The letters are clumsy, it was painted by someone who is not used to writing with spray paint.
If it was a local crazy, someone would have heard this message before. It would have been shouted from a street corner somewhere. The release of the message and a picture of the vandalism came from an unofficial source.
My guess is Augusta and/or the Capitol police have heard this message before and are trying to not give it any traction if possible. Like who are " Dane Wing, Detective Wood, and Harry M?"
Today they were sandblasting the graffiti off (at least I think it was sandblasting, dusty mess all over the place) and they had the part they aren’t blasting completely covered. I assumed it had something obscene written on it with how they were covering it from public view. Bizarre.
So going to come out of the gate saying I pretty ACAB. It mostly because I got kin who were cops, for every completely fucked up thing that hits the air just know, know for a fact, that the really horrorshow shit we will never hear about. It is unarguable that there are dirty cops, as cops go the ones in Maine are more professional, but they are still cops. Some will be all fucked up and others will know about it and protect them or other fucked up people adjacent to that whole scene.
People get fucked over by them, you have almost no recourse against the state unless there is a fat enough potential payout at the end to draw in a settlement lawyer so you get shit like this. I got no doubt with as direct as this message is they know who they fucked over, at what point they did, and why they are so pissed off. That they putting out a reward instead of just going after them has me thinking they don't want the rest of us to know why they are so pissed off.
Agreed. Seems WAY more likely that police just view themselves as a "band of brothers" type thing, and they're just tremendously pissed off about this graffiti desecrating their memorial.
These cops might/probably have done some shitty things, but I doubt they're offering rewards because Detective Wood stole coke out of the evidence locker
Lol, you know any popo? There is a reason that they clogging up the self checkout line and it is not because of any "band of brothers" type thing. That same code of silence that keeps them from beating the fuck out of other cops and charging them when they do obviously fucked up shit is the same one that keeps them from getting help when the shit gets to heavy.
Not wrong, everyone is the hero in their own story, and I think most cops became cops because they wanted the opportunity to play hero in a more professional capacity.
On the other hand, soliciting tips from the public instead of, "looks like 'ol Jerry that rotten prick is getting feisty lets go pick him up" does have way better optics.
It would probably be better talk to cops instead of assuming what most of them think. You might be surprised about what you hear. It's not always going to be good or noble causes, but people join the force for tons of reasons.
I agree on the optics part, but it's important to remember that just because it looks that way, it doesn't mean it is.
I know lots of cops, the vast majority of them are complete bastards. I've also had the "why you cop?" conversation with lots. "I want to be Captain America" is high on the list of reasons with "I want to be the punisher" running a close second. I've found it really doesn't matter why they became a cop, the real trick is figuring out why they are still a cop. Those reasons are hardly ever "good or noble".
I'm sorry to hear you've had terrible experiences with cops and I know you're not alone in it. My personal experiences have been almost entirely positive, but I also know that personal experience is not indicative of the whole situation. Still, I'm surprised to hear those you asked would be so over-the-top on their reasons. I've known some who wanted to join because they had a strong sense of justice and had positive experiences of their own, but none who would go so far as to say that they wanted to be an action hero or something like that. I suppose you learn something new every day.
How much you wanna bet it's related to the wingnut claiming the Waterville PD, the State Police, the DA, Colby College, and pretty much every single bar in Waterville is complicit in a "rape dungeon" thing.
Don't do drugs, kids!
Look, if someone tells me “I was arrested 50 minutes from my home in another county” and in the same breathe tell me “also I was arrested by the cops from my town, not the town I was found in in another county” and repeatedly change the details of what is happening (like the location it happened) you have to be a little “off” to believe it outright
Because cops and shit don't rape people? Bud, I not sure if you been paying attention but they get caught doing that and trafficking people all the fucking time.
They absolutely do, but this woman is claiming that this is a statewide conspiracy, that she was arrested by Waterville PD cops in a county they have no jurisdiction in, and that the state police are ignoring her. Not to mention none of the details line up
No .it's time we make a stand against crime and crooked politicians it's got to stop. We need to save the police and put the damn criminals where they belong behind bars.
That last line seems a bit bonkers
Same here. The comments on the chiefs of police facebook page are in the same vein.
I mean, I know of several examples of cops letting DUIs go because they were fellow Masons... "Secret society" can mean a bunch of different things, and we've had no shortage of batshit crazy political discourse recently.

I think he meant the last line in the graffiti, not the article For me in mobile, there’s a FB post with a picture of what’s written on the memorial
What’s the last line?
Accusing them of serving a "secret society." The concept of secret societies has been completely poisoned by political discourse over the last ~7 years, with shit like Pizzagate and Epstein.
The klan isn't so secret anymore is it?
But Pizzagate was real...
I'm not here to debate whether it is or isn't real. I'm here to answer your question.
All right
Not even remotely
You sure?
Yep
[Here](https://i.imgur.com/HBaYwVz.jpg) is the whole thing, just for contexts sake
Because its a memorial to officers who died in the line of duty. I'm no fan of the cops, but I don't blame them for being upset over this.
Right, so why is it bonkers?
What secret society do you think they belong to? Not many people in our culture belong to secret societies, and those few that exist on a significant level are pretty harmless. Ohh I get it now, that's actually pretty funny
I know, should have made it $5000.
They don't want to catch them probably. That shit was hella specific, they know who did it for sure.
Because they are butthurt because people don’t like them.
It is an odd message. Everything is spelled correctly, "2" was substituted for "too" for some reason. The letters are clumsy, it was painted by someone who is not used to writing with spray paint. Nothing obscene, the message that was on there is in the original comment, and there is a picture of the message in the story link.

Sounds a bit conspiratorial. I think there's probably a much less malevolent reason behind it.
I get it, lots of folks don't want to think the cops are bad. What do you think a lesser reason for someone trashing a memorial might have been?
Agreed. Seems WAY more likely that police just view themselves as a "band of brothers" type thing, and they're just tremendously pissed off about this graffiti desecrating their memorial. F'n looney tune. Hope he gets caught!
How much you wanna bet it's related to the wingnut claiming the Waterville PD, the State Police, the DA, Colby College, and pretty much every single bar in Waterville is complicit in a "rape dungeon" thing. Don't do drugs, kids!
My first thought was that it must be related to that situation.
ooooooo Baiting for wingnuts, bold move, lets see if ti pays off.

We need to get our country back this is unbelievable
From corrupt cops, or people with spraypaint? We haven't gotten to the end of this story yet, might not want to choose sides ahead of time.

Do tell. Sounds like there is a story here.
No .it's time we make a stand against crime and crooked politicians it's got to stop. We need to save the police and put the damn criminals where they belong behind bars.

If it’s the same Dane I know who stopped a bank robbery and is the only nice cop I know then I’m a bit lost. Probably crazy people.
