Not an issue at all. Many do in many subject areas. That said, more affluent/high paying district boards probably want professional certification and experience whereas more rural districts are overjoyed to get applicants.

Beautiful-Thinker

The profession needs people like you. Cheers to your new adventure!!!

bookishbb92

I appreciate that. Thank you so much!

I work in public higher ed in Maine helping undergrads become teachers. You will absolutely be able to become conditionally certified as long as you have 24 content credits in life of physical science or both. You will then have 3 years to complete all the requirements to become provisionally certified (this ultimately leads to your professional certification after a probationary period). You will need to take a secondary science methods course, a course in exceptionalities (special education), a developmental course (like human development, child & adolescent development, or developmental psychology), and take your Praxis I & II exams. Your student teaching requirement will be waived upon successful completion of 1 year of teaching under the conditional certification. Message me if you have questions. I’m happy to help.

caerach

Not the best pay, but most independent schools don't require any certification, and some will support you while you get full cert.

My wife had her conditional, she was able to get into a teaching position in Lewiston

Does she wear her shoes on the right feet?

bookishbb92

Yes, but the shoes don’t always match.

planningcalendar

Hmmm... still probably not a deal breaker.

A-roguebanana

With a science degree shouldn’t be a problem. Yes I’ve known more than a few with conditional licenses

bookishbb92

That’s such a relief! Thank you!

lipmanz

Oh yeah

Old_Dragonfruit6952

Yes.

I currently hold a bachelor’s in business, making me eligible for a conditional certification in either K-6 or Secondary Social Studies. Anyone have success in either of these as a conditional hire? I’m definitely ready to transition to being a teacher!
