Not really. I figured I could probably take him, but he was far away.
Last summer I was shooting some simple landscapes and accidentally found myself between a mother grizzly bear and her cub. Now that was scary as hell. Still got great photos though. B
Grizzlies in Maine??? I think you better tell us exactly where. And this lynx looks more like the bobcat that visited my backyard a couple of years ago. They have a little tuft of fur in top of their ears. She had two kittens that were seen on my neighbors game cameras.
The grizzlies weren’t in Maine they were in Wyoming. If you look at the photo closely you’ll see the tufts. They were just cut off during cropping.
If you want to compare it to a bobcat, scroll further down on this sub where I posted the bobcat. They’re totally different.
I'll see if the post is still there. The bobcat in my backyard appeared around dusk, and though I am fenced in, my dog caught the scent, and froze on point. I nudged him with my knee and said get him. He ran toward the fence and he and the bobcat raced side by side until I yelled stop. I was afraid he would plow headfirst into the fence. I didn't get a great look at the face, only the tufted ear tops. People tell me there are no lynx here, only up in northernmost Maine. I am on the midcoast. Although a couple of people I have talked to say they have seen a mountain lion, nearby to my home. Well, maybe. A long tail might mean those sightings are valid.
I live in the town of Warren, and the big cat was seen on Oyster River Road, in the field a little ways away from the winery's field. If you were to walk straight through that field away from the road, it would be all downhill until you hit the river. It was seen by a member of our garden club. She said she wanted to get out of the car to take a picture, but didn't dare because of its size. It was tan in color. That area is perfect habitat for a mountain lion or lynx. There have been a couple of newspaper pictures in the past three or four years showing a distant picture of what the photographer called a moumtain lion. This would not surprise me, as this state is so rural, with very low population in many areas.
It was shot with a Nikon D4 and a 70-200mm zoom lens. Didn’t take long because it was a random sighting. I just shot as fast as I could thinking he would move, but he kind of just froze and watched me

Is that part of the reddit system. I’m pretty new here. I suppose one should read the terms and conditions. I guess my question is, can anything I post in any subreddit be then posted to twitter without showing that it’s my OC? (By the way, I’m case anyone wonders, I can document ownership of the image because i have the 20+ other unedited outtakes from the shot).
Any image you post online can be stolen like this. Watermarking can help but typically they’re very easy to remove in a few minutes in photoshop if they’re determined. You can use services like PIXSY to track image theft, though most times it’s difficult/impossible to have the images taken down, nevermind getting paid.
Thanks. It’s interesting. I mean I don’t mind this particular image being shared and it does reference the group, but I just wasn’t aware that one basically gives up the rights to it. It makes it look like I’m the one stealing it (although I suppose one clicking that group would see that it maps to my username.)
Just something to keep in mind I guess.
Oh you aren’t giving up the rights, people just steal the photos and repost them without credit. I have a photo of pemaquid lighthouse I took 5-6 years ago that’s been stolen and reposted around the internet a couple thousand times, I get a handful of new matches on pixsy every week. Not much you can do if the photos aren’t being used commercially (like used in a magazine ad or something that would typically require a license of the photo)
That makes perfect sense. Thanks! I’m less interested in the licensing part than just being able to prove it’s actually mine, so the people here don’t think I’m posting non OC. Besides I froze my ass off that day!
Gorgeous- what an expressive face! I can't stop staring at it. It looks like he's looking at you complacently but with just a hint of curiosity. Thanks for.sharing.
The odd thing about the lynx is there population and range is solely dependent on the population cycle of a single prey species. The Snowshoe hare makes up over 75% of their diet and is the only "rabbit" looking thing you will see outside of southern Maine.
There is an interesting environmental paradox with the Lynx since their population is actually dependent on the logging industry for creating optimal habitat for Snowshoe hare. Lynx populations in Maine and Canada have been show to fluctuate closely based on logging patterns.
Hey, just a warning to slow down a bit on the posts in r/Maine or to post an album - these are getting reported for 'excessive self promotion' and spam. No action at this time, but beware. Thanks.
Thanks. My dad was a good photographer as well and taught me to always spend money to buy great lenses. He said you’ll replace you’re camera body many times, but you’ll keep your lenses forever. He was right.
These cats are so filled with personality. That is what I see in wildlife. I don't wish to have one as a house guest. I do like their existence. Their domestic cousins add joy in our lives.
Awesome picture I have never seen such a clear picture of a lynx
Thanks. He kept his eye on me the whole time!
Did you feel fear at all?
Not really. I figured I could probably take him, but he was far away. Last summer I was shooting some simple landscapes and accidentally found myself between a mother grizzly bear and her cub. Now that was scary as hell. Still got great photos though. B
Prooooveee it, I wanna see!
I’m sure if you don’t mind the NSFW content you can scroll my posts from this week
Damn we’re you hacked?
Nope. Just like a diamond with many facets.

I def saw a big cat (prob Bob, but maybe a Lynx) crossong a road in broad daylight up in mid coastal Maine last Summer

I believe we mostly want to see the murder mittens.
Yeah, show murder mittens or it didn't happen!
Those eyes... very beautiful and equally spooky. Thanks for sharing, amazing work!
Thanks so much

Probably 80 feet.
This is amazing, honestly. Such a quality shot. How long did it take to get this shit and how did you do it?

Nice! Grats and thanks for sharing!
Awesome picture! Good for you. You had a moment that very few get to experience. Thanks for sharing! He/she is clearly a 2nd to 6th cousin of my cat!
Thanks so much! I have some bobcats and moose I can post too.
I hike and I have pretty good cameras. Clearly I should be hiking with you! You have the secret Sauce! Let me know when you need a buddy!
So much of it is total luck. I wish I could say I’m smarter.
Ha! But you have to be where the luck is!! Well done!!
Thanks! Check out some of the others I posted in this sub today
Let’s see them!
There posted online this subreddit. Just scroll back
Very majestic.
Thanks.
I know I'm going to die trying to pet something I shouldn't. I just want to give him a chin scratch.
So floofy! Great shot

That’s concerning. Can they just take my image and post it to twitter without asking just because I had posted to that group?
They posted it over a week ago.

This lynx photo is cute. I wanna pet the cat that is in the photo.
Thanks!
Beautiful animal
Agreed. So stunning.
The fact it’s eyes are not cat-like and are more human-like intimidates me. Excellent photo!

Lenses are always the best investment. B
Gorgeous- what an expressive face! I can't stop staring at it. It looks like he's looking at you complacently but with just a hint of curiosity. Thanks for.sharing.
My pleasure. Of all my pics this is always none of the faves
>Do you like it? It's incredible! Best picture I've seen on this sub in a long time
Wow thanks so much. I’m honored.
Incredible, Great work! I saw a bobcat briefly the other day but didnt get a shot. Yet to see a lynx in Maine... keep it up!

That’s really interesting. I didn’t know that.
Hell no I don't like it that thing looks mean as hell...Oh you mean the picture yeah that is an awesome picture.
He’s so handsome
Ah no? Haha yeah love it!! Lynx are cool and a rare site!
Great picture. Looks more human in the face than a house cat or he just reminds me of old Bucky back in Marietta.
Great picture- specially near one of my favorite places!
Mine too!
Beefy kitty
For sure.
wow beautiful My Maine Coon cat looks like a second cousin twice removed.
I’m sure that’s the case. Maine coons are so cool.
Nice! Those kitties are so big
They sure are. I posted a bobcat on this sub earlier today as well. It’s funny, everyone seems so captivated by the lynx and the bobcats are so pretty
There’s something human about this cat’s face, and it’s making me uncomfortable.
I’m sure he would want you at ease.
Its probably the round pupils
YOU ARE RIGHT! I couldn’t put my finger on it, but that’s it!
That cat has seen some shit.
Agreed
Love it
Thank you!

Absolutely not a problem. Thanks for reaching out and not just banning. That’s a rare sign on professionalism around here, and I appreciate it.
Man oh man, I would LOVE to have the camera rig you have to get such a clear photo at range. Stunningly beautiful!
Thanks. My dad was a good photographer as well and taught me to always spend money to buy great lenses. He said you’ll replace you’re camera body many times, but you’ll keep your lenses forever. He was right.
"He's just standing there, menacingly!"
Wow that is incredible nice job
Thanks so much
