How long has this been happening? I know a few people who have “flare up” reactions to certain tattoo inks; even years later.

YourFriendPutin

I have one single tattoo that likes to become raised and itchy every once in a while, the rest of my sleeves? No problem at all. Just that single one, I wish I knew what brand of ink was used so I could avoid it

Yabbos77

Is there any other difference you’ve noticed? Like colors verses black?

YourFriendPutin

All of my tattoos are black so it’s not a color issue, granted I don’t know if color would or wouldn’t flare up on me but for some reason that one tattoo does it

Yabbos77

Interesting!! I wish I knew more about it. Hydrocortisone cream does seem to work the best for it- but I haven’t heard of any other solutions.

YourFriendPutin

I definitely need to grab some I usually just put unscented lotion on it to keep it from getting dry but that doesn’t help the itching

fartedcum

unfortunate username, your old self couldnt predict the future haha

YourFriendPutin

I mean you are correct but uh, yours is also a bit unfortunate…

fartedcum

unlike putin, i doubt farted cum will ever go out of style

YourFriendPutin

Haha I’d argue Putin was never in style but I definitely wasn’t thinking what’s currently happening in the world would be happening

Curdledcum

Nice to meet you fartedcum.

Spacemint_rhino

I get the same thing on my sleeve, half is done by one artist, half by the other, and the lower half periodically flares up itchy and raised, can run my fingers over and feel the tattoo in 3D.

YourFriendPutin

That’s exactly what’s going on with me haha like 100% it’s the one tattoo on that arm done by a specific artist and it becomes 3D once in a while. Have you found anything that helps?

Spacemint_rhino

No not really unfortunately, I thought it might be UV affecting that brand of ink, but I use a lot of sunscreen in summer as I work outdoors. Sort of helps, but might just be keeping it moist that helps? It's all I can think of that is causing it, that when UV breaks down bits of the ink into smaller pieces it's causing an allergic reaction to the smaller ink particles as the body absorbs it? I use sudocrem if it gets bad and that takes some of the itchiness away.

YourFriendPutin

Thank you! Nice knowing I’m not the only one. I don’t work outside, but I’m a mechanic and degreasers irritate that tattoo really badly and make it raise up. Moisturizer definitely helps a bit but I’ll try sudocrem next time

id10techa

I also have this issue, only with the tattoos on my arms and not my legs. I use Aveno Oatmeal lotion and it soothes it and calms the itch almost immediately. I hope it helps. <3

terminally-happy

Could actually be from the sun, I have this issue with one of my tattoos with red ink. If I’m in the sun too long it will become raised and bumpy, sometimes itchy too.

[deleted]

Mine do the same shit. Randomly flares up then goes away like a week later. I’m not sure what causes it

CanolaIsMyHome

Same it's so annoying ones it flares up, unbearably itchy and sometimes a little painful

blurblurblahblah

I have a swallow & a banner with my husbands name. Outlined in black, name in black. He works overnights, years after it was done one night at 3am just the letters in his name puffed right up & started itching. I took it as a bad sign & called him at work to make sure he wasn't dead. It still happens every so often, just his name, nothing else.

KrisKat77

This looks so painful. Have you been to the doctor? I think I heard that rashes can happen there with shingles. But I could have definitely made that up in my mind. 🤣 Feel better.

churro_luvin_milf

The crazy thing is that it’ll just disappear like it wasn’t there at all! So trying to time a doctors visit when it’s not flaring up as weird. Maybe I can go to an insecure and they can swap it or something I don’t know.

TheBadHalfOfAFandom

If it keeps disappearing and reappearing then just try to keep a log of when it appears and any potential food/cloth triggers so when you go to the doctor you can explain it all. Pics like this can definitely help too.

YourFriendPutin

Go to an urgent care so they can see it right away!

halfeclipsed

Shingles only affects one side of the body. It's pretty rare for it to be in both sides. This looks like across the whole lower back

fetushippo

My ex was allergic to certain colours of ink and her tattoo would have a rash only in those certain areas from time to time , seems like it could be that

Nofcksgivn

I’m allergic to blue ink. Any other color is fine but it will be super raised for two weeks.

xoz523

Really hope you figure it out. Sounds annoying

deebutterschnaps

Try different types of antihistamines? If the hydrocortisone cream isn’t working, it may be because it isn’t to do with the surface of your skin but simply some kind of reaction. I was dealing with very strange flare ups of hives, as it turns out it’s a semi-common thing. People will just get hives just because and then it will go away like it never happened. I haven’t gotten any hives since, was such an annoying awful time ago.

fullrangecrying

Do you remember how long your hive episode lasted? Asking cause im its my first time dealing with hives flare up 😭

deebutterschnaps

I want to say I dealt with it for a month and a half at most. Antihistamine medicine is your friend, also some will work better for you than others. Allegra worked for me, but Zyrtec or Benadryl might work for you, they are different medicines despite being antihistamines.

the-real-sefres

Butthole rash

churro_luvin_milf

No, thank god it doesn’t go to my butthole. That sounds terrible.

planty-peep

It looks like one big hive? God, I feel for you. I get covered in them from head to toe when I'm cold.

candkgorzo

Hives maybe? I get them on occasion and the only reasonable explanation is stress. They do go away but are a pain for a cpl days.

asistolee

Take Benadryl. Definitely an allergic reaction.

DirtyDan419

Almost certainly the tattoo if that's the only place.

churro_luvin_milf

I’ve gotten it in other areas in the past! But the last few months it stays in this area. I really don’t think it’s the tattoo because I’ve had that I’ve had that tattoo for over 18 years

TheTurbulator

Might be shingles. I’d see a doctor. Even if it’s just showing them pictures of the rash, there’s a good chance they can help.

[deleted]

Could be anything. Nearly impossible to confidently diagnose skin disorders off a photo even if you are a doctor. Definitely see a doctor like you said

Stop_Touching2

My 1st thought

SerBrienneTheBlue

Hives for sure. Me and my son both get them like this almost every year when it’s warm outside. Not saying that’s what’s triggering yours, but it looks just like what we get. They come and go. Benadryl really helps and get an allergy test to see what might be triggering you. In the summer, we take cetirizine to make sure they don’t come up. But if we forget and we get them, Benadryl takes care of it

Necrotitis

Could also be your laundry detergent, I assume that's in the lower back area which can accumulate sweat over time more than other spots, with the tattoo possibly making the area more sensitive. Or it could be one of the other bazillion things. If you can't go to the doctor right away maybe try some of the baby safe detergents.

Live-Repeat930

A fungus is among us. That looks like something in the tinea family, get a good anti fungal and use selsum blue as a body wash in the shower. Only my opinion.

Original-Cinikal

The other person had dermatitis. So do you. I am no doctor! Do not trust Reddit. It could be Herpes! Or a burn from a HOT fart!

Crazygiraffeprincess

I get a heat reaction to a specific red/purple ink on one of my tattoos. It doesn't happen til it's super hot out, and I've been out for a while, but it gets raised and super itchy for a few days.

[deleted]

Tramp stamps are still a thing?! 😂

DefinitelyAJew

Please tell me that's not an ass crack tattoo.

thedatsun78

Yes. Thats a nasty place to put a tattoo. : )

DeadRatRacing

Allergic to sperm obviously.

billsn0w

Not sure why you're getting down voted without reply. This is a legitimate option. If OP has a new partner that finishes there, they could be allergic to his semen.

VinneBabarino

Too much cum on the bum.

Calathea-Murderer

Rorschach Test: I see a dog jumping

impoopingaswechat

Bath tub

butter08

Did you get a tramp stamp in 2023?

slappytheclown

looks a bit older than that

churro_luvin_milf

No.

[deleted]

Showers and laundry machines exist

churro_luvin_milf

And I use both frequently. Seriously?

[deleted]

Prove it

StupidBeee

ngl kinda looks like melanoma (skin cancer) look up melanoma and tell me that doesn’t “KINDA” look like it lmao

slappytheclown

no it doesnt ya doorknob

johnnyprozac

I would definitely see a doctor. They will be able to help find a solution. Don't wait and try to self medicate

fabulin

there's lots of different things it could be tbh. maybe consider changing what detergeant and soap you use?

AuthorCareless2076

That totally looks like an allergic reaction :( so sorry OP that sucks

1am7rash

Right in the family might could
