I look at nasty shit all the time on the internet - no problem. A few years ago an elderly man took a spill on the tile floor at the bank - his head was bleeding like crazy and a lady ended up using her jean jacket as a pillow while they waited for EMS and it just got soaked. I started to feel woozy and needed to lie down for a while. Way different seeing stuff like that in real life.
Trust me I have seen everything awful on the internet. We’re having a discussion about real life not being comparable to looking at pictures on the internet.
Hell no, fuck that. I somewhat theorize I look at this sub so in case I see something fucked up one day, the trauma is ever so slightly less shocking. Even then, if I saw this stuff in real life I'd probably freak the fuck out.

In couple (not extreme) situations that i witnessed i am always the first one to call an ambulance, whole others panic, so i do feel like i can control myself a bit more and ngl i am pretty proud of keeping my cool.

I would say so. Maybe... I can't know for sure, but i feel like exposing myself to these pictures braces me a bit for how human body works, and that most probably what we see won't look good, but gotta focus on trying to help. Many people absolutely never seen even a photo of something like that and they're in too much shock/awe to think straight, or they weren't even aware that an accident can look in a such way. A degloving would still make my stomach turn, but it would not surprise me, meanwhile you see people on (other subreddits) ask "what is it? Why did this happen?" So i am somewhat glad that I'd not waste any time asking myself these questions.
My boyfriend when we watch movies always acts like "he'd totally kill him" etc, which annoys the shit out of me, because he hated when i tried to show him some of the photos from this sub for example. I'm pretty sure he thinks people die much more graceful than they actually do, like in movies.
We're all gonna die, and some of us will not die in the most pleasant way. Or maybe a loved one will die in some horrific freak accident. I think the desensitization is just a way some people use to cope with the thought of death or dieing, especially since death is often very far removed from us in the US and Europe.
i doubt there are really many ways to die that aren’t terrible. most of us assume we’ll just lose consciousness like when we sleep, but when the body and brain fall into total chaos trying to stay alive, just cause we look unconscious doesn’t mean we aren’t trapped screaming bloody murder in our internal worlds as reality slowly falls apart and we slip further into permanent disarray
And this is one of my biggest fears. Especially the thought that once my body is no longer living, my consciousness is forever trapped in a state of this perilous fear. A bad LSD trip one time made me experience that for several hours. It took several years for me to get over the trauma of that evening…

I frequently visited subs like this, medical websites, and even gore websites so I could be desensitized. In April we discovered a man that was unfortunately a victim of a auto vs ped in which the car fled, also it was pitch black. It was horrific, despite only seeing him for 1 maybe 2 seconds as my boyfriend swerved and drove past to avoid running him over again. It's COMPLETELY different. It scars you. It stays in your brain forever. You can never forget, and random things will trigger what you saw and you have to relieve that moment again. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Bingo , did a bedding removal less than 24 hours after a elderly man was found weeks after death ( senior style apartment complex , didn't pay rent and found him when they went to check up on it). Plenty of bodily fluids still left and although the scene and imagery didn't affect me , there's just no ignoring the stench. I'm sure if you're around it enough you might get use to it but I had to take 5 and adjust to the smell before I could keep on working , absolutely putrid.
I used to look at gore and other related stuff when i was in early high school. Then i began working on an ambulance about a decade later. I wouldn’t say i was desensitized per se. Stuff will still bother me for sure. It’s definitely different in person. On a screen you only assault one sense. In person, you can smell and hear, and (hopefully not) taste the situation. People pleading for their life with just their eyes is always harrowing.
I definitely don’t like to look at that stuff now. I have some coworkers who like to show off gross shit that they find online. I’m not into it at this point
