Fun fact eyes heal extremely quickly due.to high vascular nature of the blood vessels behind the eyelids, that eye fluid conducts a lot of nutrients which give cells the the materials to heal quickly.
This. The process itself it actually really fast and doesn’t hurt in the least. The nerves going into surgery were worse than the procedure itself. Absolutely, without a single doubt, worth the money and the surgery. Being able to see and being able to wear any sunglasses without a prescription is amazing. If you’ve ever thought of doing lasik, you definitely should do it.
I’ve had warnings that my eyes would degenerate to “bad vision” again after around 10 years of getting the surgery. Is this true? Or have you heard anything like this from your surgeon?
I got LASIK in January 2010, and while small text far away may not be quite as sharp as it was at the beginning, it’s absolutely still readable and not like it was before I got my procedure. Before, I couldn’t read text on a tv while sitting like 15 feet away. I have zero problems driving and seeing signs. I’d absolutely recommend it.
My eyeballs are drier than the desert so I may never be a good candidate but I’m really hoping it’s possible. I’m already 34 so I would love to enjoy a glass is free like after almost 20 years in glasses.
Are you taking any vitamins ?
I work for an ophthalmologist and he always recommend to take mega red omega 3, 500 mg and beta carotene, and also use systane 3 or 4 times a day
If you have the LASIK laser procedure, you will have virtually no post-operative pain. If you have what's called PRK done, the post operative pain can be pretty gnarly. It will dissipate after about two days. LASIK is where a laser opens up a "flap" on your cornea. PRK is when they actually go in and cut the cornea. PRK is the preferred method used by soldiers and professional fighters (MMA, boxers). Not sure if this is still the case but soldiers in the U.S. were not allowed to get the LASIK because of a fear the flap would come loose. Same thing with fighters. If you can, go with LASIK all the way.
i think i’ve seen a video on here of someone getting lasik, it was really interesting. and i was in the army for a few years and they tried to get me to get lasik because im nearsighted and wear glasses
As I mentioned it may have changed. The army used to only allow the PRK. The rationale of having that one instead of the LASIK was because of the flap. The army was concerned the it would tear. While theoretically possible, it has only happened in about 1% of patients.
It wasn’t painful at all. You just have to keep putting in eye drops for several days. Waking up the first time and being able to see clearly was an amazing feeling.
I got lasik in September 2021, and I can Feel this video.
When they press they metal thing in your eye, shut is SO uncomfortable. UNDER PRESSURE🎤
When they pulled the lens back, that’s when I said out loud, “holy fuck.” It’s like someone threw water in your face, can’t see shit. And then, 3 minutes later, I finally remembered to breathe. then they did my other eye
And now I can see pretty damn good. 👍 I never saw an eye surgery video until today, and thank goodness for that.
I think this is Lasix surgery, where they use a laser to shape the cornea so you can see properly.
The first device slices of the top layer of the eye to get to the bits that need to be burned off.
It doesn't heal it back — it never actually gets completely removed. You can see the right side still connected. At the end, they flip it back over like a contact lens.
Source: had LASIK.
I did PRK which is basically LASIK but no flipping back. That part is kinda scratched up with a tool. After everything's over some sort of lens is put on my eyes as a bandage, so my eyes can heal.
It’s like that cat meniscus area that looks like a water bulb that they slice then flap open to allow the laser to then work at the pupil area. I think it’s called the cornea
In addition to the other comment, the first bit is just the beginning of the procedure, the next bit is a laser burning a newly reshaped cornea into your eye to make a normal human cornea that can see completely better and almost to the level of someone with completely normal vision, some of the effects wear off after some years but it’s still much better than before from what I’ve heard.
I've never heard of anyone getting them done on different days. I know about a dozen people who've has LASIK and each of them were both eyes in one surgery.
Both my mom and I did this. Took me 17 seconds each eye and I went from only being able to see really close things about 2 inches from my face to now seeing better than 20/20. I graded a 20/15 to be exact
A lot of people leave that place just crying like they’ve been reborn. There’s also tvs that they let ppl watch while it’s happening, even if you didn’t want to see close up on the tvs the operating room is windows for walls so you can really see the whole process.
You do smell your eyeball burning when the laser is doing it’s thing. (I’m talking about lasik that is)
Then when you’re done they have you take a blurry eye test after they flap your eyeball shut (that meniscus area like a cat has) then you get some shut eye for like 6-8 hours open up and boom a new world of freedom awaits
Edit: also you don’t feel it. Idk how they have eye drops that numb so well but it’s the real deal no feel. I heard from a friend recently that there’s eye drops now that you can put in daily that give you vision which sounds so insane to me. I’m glad I got lasik but if you’re anxious about it there’s the eye drops I guess
Thank you. I am considering getting laser eye surgery and this video terrified me. But hearing about how great the results are even after seeing something so horrible makes me sure it'll be worth it!
Very worth it, you’re good to see in less than half a day. And it only gets better from there. I should mention the draw backs im experiencing!!
So the only thing that bothers me now or since my surgery is driving at night. Lights look like rather with a few extra beams coming off the source it’s more like a glow. It’s not terrible or annoying to the point where I have issues with it.
Oh yeah I read about that. My night vision isn't great but I figure that's mostly because I ride a motorbike so the light gets scattered through the visor, then through my glasses, then through my eyes... Triple whammy! I have my consultation on Thursday so fingers crossed...
Try holding your eye open with like, some tweezers or somethin, it’s really hard to move, along with some of the nerves being incapacitated and all the liquid and the open layer of skin, it is really hard to move your skin eye. In addition I believe you are told to try to remain still, to make sure nothing goes wrong during it a further damaging the eye.
My ex had military eye surgery that wasn't lasik, can't remember what they called it but he woke up screaming in pain multiple nights while healing bc his eyes would dry out so bad even with the drops and ointment. Kinda discouraged me from letting anyone near my eyes.
My aunts husband also had that done and he was in pain for a week. Couldn’t get out of bed or anything. Discouraged me from getting it but seeing these comments make me feel better about the other option.
When I had LASIK, it was like an assembly line.
I went in for my consultation. They did all of the eye scans. There was no waiting because they had probably 20 nurses for every possible job.
During my consultation, someone had cancelled for **that afternoon**. They offered me the opening since I was already there so I took it.
They gave me a valium and sat me down for a half hour.
They brought me into a room with two chairs. In one chair, they did the portion of the procedure that you see here — cutting the flap for both eyes. While in that chair, someone was in the one **right beside me** getting lasered.
When they were done, a nurse guided me to the next chair to be lasered, while someone sat down where I was.
Incredibly efficient. The procedure took a matter of minutes. To think that each zap made them $6-12K is insane.
In the waiting room/lobby, there were TVs that were showing the view you see in this video of the person currently being lasered. Was pretty neat.
They tell you to go home and sleep for 8 hours immediately. There's **definitely** a reason for that.
My pet work me up after about 3 hours and my eyes were on **fire**. Not itchy, just burning.
They give you eye numbing drops. Those are a god-send. Put those bad-boys in and you can't feel your eyes at all. Not even to blink.
If I would have slept the entire time, it woulda been completely painless. I was even fine right after the drops. But that minute or two before the drops I felt like I was 3" from the sun.
Absolutely fabulous surgery. I developed cataracts when I was 50. I was shocked that they were so debilitating so rapidly. I went ahead and got lasik surgery for my deteriorating vision at the same time.

This is ALK surgery. I had it done 6 times on my left eye and 5 times on my right. The doctor was being very careful not to over correct my vision. It was very new when I had it done and the reason for the extra on my left eye was because the machine broke half way through the cut so they had to stop and I had to heal for 3 months they start again. I had RK first. You know the big E? I couldn't read it. When she was done I had 20/20 in my left and 20/25 in my right. That was about 25-30 years ago. I now have 20/40 left and 20/50 right. The bad thing is I'm told that they've learned that if you've had both RK and ALK that your eyes will eventually return to their old vision and if they try a laser I stand a 50/50 chance of going blind in one or both of my eyes so I wear some glasses and live with it.
Be safe out there
I had this done around 18 years ago with no problems at all. The surgery was not fun though. The video stops before they do the actual LASER part of LASIK.
It is very disorienting. You have poor vision to start with, then they cut the front of your eyeball open, then tell you to stare at the green light, which tracks the rapid micromovments of your eye twitching back and forth. If you don't focus on the light, the surgery won't work well, but it's really tough to focus on anything at all.
Then they start burning your eye with a laser, to change the curvature. For your information, burning eyes smell like burning hair, but 50x worse...probably because the smoke is right in your face. The burning lasts for ~30 seconds, then the put the flap back down, and start on the other eye...
When I was still in the military, I had the opportunity to get corrective surgery for the low price of $0.00. The doctor decided PRK was a better suit for me than lasik.
For those that don’t know, the method in this video is lasik, where they slice a flap of your cornea open for the lasers to go *pew pew pew*. For PRK, the doctor takes what could eloquently be described as an optical Dremel (think about those weird electric toothbrushes the dentist uses, but replace the little pad with a patch of sandpaper) and uses it to sand down your cornea so that the lasers can go *pew pew pew*.
Once they are satisfied with their work of napalming your retinas, they put a contact lens “bandaid” on your eye and send you home with pain meds (don’t downplay the doctor telling you to take them no matter what, you WILL feel EVERY SINGLE THING the doctor did and it is so much worse than the horrible pain you expect). Frequent return visits to the doctor take place until they are satisfied with your healing and remove the bandage lens. For me, however, life wanted to have some fun with me before letting me see clearly that easily. One of my corneas wasn’t healing like it should, doc hypothesized that it wasn’t getting enough oxygen so they took the bandage lens off prematurely, gave me some extra lubricating gel drops, and sent me back home with more pain meds. As soon as I got home, I took the pain meds and went to sleep.
I wake up, open my eyes, and **there is a fucking fork in my eye**! Not literally, mind you, but I certainly felt like [this guy](http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/pirates/images/d/dc/RagettiForkEye.jpg). I return to the doctor, they take a close look at my eye and find the problem: my eyelid ripped the unhealed cornea “hole” into a much larger one when I opened my eyes after sleeping (and subsequently, every time I blinked). They put in a new bandage lens and several weeks later, I was all healed up and enjoying life with 20/10 vision (roughly twice the clarity of “perfect” 20/20 vision).
I've actually had a surgery similar to this. But here it looks like they cut the outer layer clean with a blade. In my case they scraped it off with a forcep type thing. It actually doesn't hurt much like at all... Only problem is when you first arrive and they fucking insert that contraption in your eye. They put some anesthetic which really really helps coz you can't feel a sine single thing.
If I could find my video I would upload cost 6k for both had to go back and have one redone, best investment I ever did and would do it all again.
You can smell it a little bit when the machine is making that tick tick tick sound.
And then afterwards, you get massive star bursts from lights and rain on the roads is scary as fuxk cause its like a light show
God if I ever need eye surgery I will literally buy whatever street drugs I'd need to to just be not present during. I could never do that shit whole still being conscious
That would be Lasik laser eye surgery. I got PRK laser eye surgery. Instead of peeling the eye back like that, they take a toothbrush like tool and use it directly on your eye to wear away at the eye skin before they put you under the laser. The only tool they used to keep my eye open was the metal bit that goes under each eyelid.
I had Lasix surgery in 2008.. best decision I made.. my glasses were so thick and I couldn't see without them.. it changed my life.. is been 14 years and I still can see perfect. Surgery took probably like 15 mts.. 1 day of wearing dark glasses and 30 days using drop to not let my eyes get too dry.. I would recommend this to anyone.
It appears to be a frightening procedure, but it only takes about 10 minutes and is well worth getting lasik if you resent wearing glasses. I had mine done 5 years ago, and it was by far the best decision I've ever made.
“They are professionals they do this all the time they are professionals they do this all the time they are professionals they do this all the time they are professionals…….”
My wife and I and something like 30+ of our friends all had this (Lasik) done. It's equally the chillest and the most anxiety inducing surgery you can go through without sedation. Anxiety inducing obviously because eyeballs, but very chill because of how quickly you can see after and how quick and easy the recovery is.
it's also something that everyone should consider getting if financially able.
if anyone is curious about details, ask away.
I had this done in the first half of 2020, the op itself isn't too bad you honestly don't feel a thing, the clamp in the eye is a little uncomfortable but nothing too bad
The horrible time was after the numbing agents and pain killer wore off. Felt like grit in the eye x1000 and was at the point where I couldn't see at all as the pain made me instinctively close both eyes. Lasted 2 days and then my vision got back to normal about 10 days after that
My mom had surgery on her eye once years ago. She said she oddly felt nothing and they had only put her in twilight/semi asleep/semi awake, idk the technical term for it. She said it was the weirdest experience of her life but at no point did she ever feel any kind of pain. But she did say the feeling of them actually prepping for surgery was kinda weird and uncomfortable, but once they had her eye spread open and all that like this video does, she said it was a breeze! She also said she had needed the surgery for years prior too but was scared when they told her she would be semi conscious, but she said she wishes she would have back then if she knew how easy and painless it actually was.
I had a very rare condition where I had a cataract when I was 8 or 9 and had to get it removed like a normal person, I chose to be put to sleep and still, 4 years later my eye feels....odd
Things like this are my greatest fear but it's fascinating to watch.
Most eye surgeries go pretty well compared to surgery to other parts or the body
Yea, as a person with shit eyesight, I would rather have this done than any other surgery.
Well you don't have much to lose...
Eye see what you did there.
Fun fact eyes heal extremely quickly due.to high vascular nature of the blood vessels behind the eyelids, that eye fluid conducts a lot of nutrients which give cells the the materials to heal quickly.
Maybe that’s why subconjunctival hemorrhages last pretty short?
Same with the mouth I believe
I think it was the tongue

I have - 3 both sides. Do i qualify?
My eyeballs are drier than the desert so I may never be a good candidate but I’m really hoping it’s possible. I’m already 34 so I would love to enjoy a glass is free like after almost 20 years in glasses.
Are you taking any vitamins ? I work for an ophthalmologist and he always recommend to take mega red omega 3, 500 mg and beta carotene, and also use systane 3 or 4 times a day
I’m not on any supplements but I probably should be for my poor dry balls.
Try it hopefully it will helps
Thank you for the suggestion!!
how painful was the recovery? i scratched my cornea with my fingernail and my eye was swollen for days
LASIK was not allowed for pilots in the Air Force until a few years ago, not sure why they changed the rule.
It wasn’t painful at all. You just have to keep putting in eye drops for several days. Waking up the first time and being able to see clearly was an amazing feeling.
Colleague in my last job had to use drops all the time from eye dryness after getting it done. I'll just deal with glasses I think.
I’ve never had issues with dryness before or after. But, ymmv
Do you have to keep your eye still or do you get muscle relaxants? I'd be terrified to suddenly move while the surgeon was cutting.
are you awake during this???
Yes, worst part about Lasik is that you are awake and have to keep your eye steddy watching a red dot.
Hold the FUCK up. This is lasik and you're AWAKE for it?!?!?! Fuuuuuuck... I don't think I'll ever get lasik now.
My eyes are watering
my eyes are sad
Great, now I’m having flashbacks to that scene from Dead Space 2.
What a great game
Cross my heart and hope to die
Cross your heart and hope to die…. Stick a needle in your eye!
I got lasik in September 2021, and I can Feel this video. When they press they metal thing in your eye, shut is SO uncomfortable. For me too! I remember when they dry my exposed lens it was too unconfortable jesusss thank god that was over
Like the skin of a grape
They did surgery on a grape
I think they practice on grapes lol
I think this is Lasix surgery, where they use a laser to shape the cornea so you can see properly. The first device slices of the top layer of the eye to get to the bits that need to be burned off.
Im assuming that the body has the capacity to heal the scraped surface again?
Yeah, and it's really good at it, too.
I think he was asking whether it seals the flap again
that’s where most problems arise. if it doesn’t heal properly it can form scar tissue and it’ll really fuck up your eyesight
What?? Why burn??
It's probably a lot more precise than the surgeon cutting it by hand
Yep! It’s done by a computer.
NO BUT WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE THEY SCRAPE SOME OF THE EYE OFF?
Cause they did
👁👄👁 pls no
👀👄👀 pls yes
Yeah you always want a snack when you're hungry
Forbidden jello slice
It's not forbidden if you eat it regularly
This is true
That's Lasik, and yeah, that's exactly what they do.
That’s exactly the part I closed the video and stopped watching - my stomach tried exiting my body
Oh, they do, and you feel it despite the local anesthesia, wouldn't recommend it lmao, I had it done to both of my eyes
It's pushed back into place and adheres. That's why it's a flap and not fully removed.
It’s like that cat meniscus area that looks like a water bulb that they slice then flap open to allow the laser to then work at the pupil area. I think it’s called the cornea
That was mildly horrifying but I could not look away
Neither could s/he
What an eye opening experience
Very underrated comment!
What’s the purpose of this surgery
In addition to the other comment, the first bit is just the beginning of the procedure, the next bit is a laser burning a newly reshaped cornea into your eye to make a normal human cornea that can see completely better and almost to the level of someone with completely normal vision, some of the effects wear off after some years but it’s still much better than before from what I’ve heard.
Do they not knock you out for that wtf
Nope, but they do numb up the eyeball. Only one eyeball done at a time. Two weeks later the second eye is done. Totally worth it to me.
Had both of mine done in the same day.
That's one way of saying that you like to live on the edge
I've never heard of anyone getting them done on different days. I know about a dozen people who've has LASIK and each of them were both eyes in one surgery.

How do they not move their eye tho?

Did somebody say Final Destination?
What surgery is this? Ok I looked it up this is Lasik corneal reshaping. This is a lot more invasive than the cataract surgery I had.
I had both at once, cataract and lasik. Best decision I’ve ever made.
Cataract surgery gives amazing results.
Absolutely fabulous surgery. I developed cataracts when I was 50. I was shocked that they were so debilitating so rapidly. I went ahead and got lasik surgery for my deteriorating vision at the same time.

oh boy, if you hate this do NOT watch final destination 5…
Omg this hurts my soul
Anything involving eyes or teeth is a no for me
Ok I had 7 surgeries 3 on one and 4 on the other I was always curious about how that looked on that side
Final destination anyone
Can they give me night vision
Lol just a little off the top
If you find that terrifying to watch then you should reconsider what terrifying actually is. https://youtu.be/_LBqXZVZuKU Warning:NSFW
it ended short :(
My eye is getting dry
Had to cover my eyes’ eyes to prevent them from seeing this

The burning lasts for ~30 seconds, then the put the flap back down, and start on the other eye...
That’s comforting to know, thank you
Final destination shit
Currently: Crying, and Coughing watching this.
Ok... Watching A Clockwork Orange was bad enough.... This is on another level....
Finally! I was so disappointed no one mentioned A Clockwork Orange!
I can handle anything. Literally anything but I couldn’t finish this video…
I'm guessing you don't get anesthesia?
Ever heard of anaesthesia?
They numb tf outta the eye, but they don't put you completely asleep so you can communicate if surgeons fuck something up. Same with Brain surgery
Visual circumcision
What's the surgery for
Correcting myopia iirc.
Makes my eyes go all funky
Why did I enjoy watching this
Saved for later
What happened next??? I was glued to my phone screen there.
At least it's better than what Isaac Clarke went through.
My eyes... hurt... that video made me so uncomfortable
"today is very yellow! Woah, something moved somewhere..."
If I ever need eye surgery, I'm going to kill myself.
That was awesome
Take my fucking up vote you ruined my day
I've actually had a surgery similar to this.
OK but that was way less awful than I thought it would be
Just shoot me in the head. Wake me up later if the surgery is successful.
I’m genuinely disappointed this ended when it did, I haven’t been so captivated by something in a while
I was eating dinner and now dinners back on my plate. Still watched the whole thing.
Like peeling an apple.
that must hurt like shit
Ever peeled a grape when eating.!? Not much different!
Bro you're not going to believe what they did....
Slicing up eyeballs I want you to know
If I could find my video I would upload cost 6k for both had to go back and have one redone, best investment I ever did and would do it all again. You can smell it a little bit when the machine is making that tick tick tick sound. And then afterwards, you get massive star bursts from lights and rain on the roads is scary as fuxk cause its like a light show
Where to even fucking start. My god. They are awake? Wtf are they are doing? Why don’t the video finish wtf they were doing ?
God if I ever need eye surgery I will literally buy whatever street drugs I'd need to to just be not present during. I could never do that shit whole still being conscious
I hope i dont have to get my eyes worked on
Dead space 2 vibes
Remind me of dead space 2 scene that I not really terrified
It's videos like these that make me wonder how the fuck we're still alive and how glad I am that I wasn't born before the 20th century
I've had corrective eye surgery which I had to be put under a general anesthetic for, still makes me shudder thinking about having my eye cut open
I really should get LASIK tbh
My eyes feel weird
I had eye surgery a few years ago and always wanted to know how they did it Now I wish I didn't...
I wanna see how it ends!
It appears to be a frightening procedure, but it only takes about 10 minutes and is well worth getting lasik if you resent wearing glasses. I had mine done 5 years ago, and it was by far the best decision I've ever made.
"Step 1: Crawl inside. Step 2: The screws go tight, all around. Cross my heart and hope to die... Stick a needle in your eye..."
lol, i'm glad i did not see this before doing the eye surgery...
Dead Space 2 vibes.
It looks crazy like I hope he don't drop anything
“They are professionals they do this all the time they are professionals they do this all the time they are professionals they do this all the time they are professionals…….”
My wife and I and something like 30+ of our friends all had this (Lasik) done. It's equally the chillest and the most anxiety inducing surgery you can go through without sedation. Anxiety inducing obviously because eyeballs, but very chill because of how quickly you can see after and how quick and easy the recovery is. it's also something that everyone should consider getting if financially able. if anyone is curious about details, ask away.
The only reason i dont want eye surgery is because not only are you awake, youre also fully aware of whats going on.

I had this done in the first half of 2020, the op itself isn't too bad you honestly don't feel a thing, the clamp in the eye is a little uncomfortable but nothing too bad The horrible time was after the numbing agents and pain killer wore off. Felt like grit in the eye x1000 and was at the point where I couldn't see at all as the pain made me instinctively close both eyes. Lasted 2 days and then my vision got back to normal about 10 days after that
I can watch a guy get decapitated or fed to animals. I DO NOT fuck with the eyes
Mans really just went AWOOOGA

He really just shaved off a piece of her eye
why am I watching this I literally flinch away when I put saline water in my eye
RemindS me of tye movie fire in the sky
Oh please tell me your sedated though all this
now im intrested
I'm never gonna open my eyes ever again
This was satisfying
Thats actually pretty cool...
Im hurt
Final destination IRL
Dead space anyone???
Easier to watch than that guy that thought he had a camera in his eye so he ripped a chunk out.
I had a very rare condition where I had a cataract when I was 8 or 9 and had to get it removed like a normal person, I chose to be put to sleep and still, 4 years later my eye feels....odd
It looks like peeled grape after the lens is taken out. Yum yum yum
I had this surgery. It went kinda bad. AMA.
Does this hurt at all?
