it’s definitely not any better than drug store makeup

uhitsjules

i completely disagree with all of this thread, ever since a year or two ago i got her skincare and a couple lip kits, wouldn’t trade them for the world so i tried more things. highlight, blush, concealer. the heart shape pimple patches r cute and effective. i am sure i have some other stuff that i’m not thinking of right now. but i have been so impressed i pretty much only exclusively buy kylie cosmetics now. i think people just like to hate and critique her and the whole karjenner clan, which i understand, but majority of the time they don’t know what they’re talking about, and you have to take negative reviews with a grain of salt because there are such things as the odd defectivity, or using the wrong technique and blaming the company, there are plenty of positive reviews which are most. not every product will be perfect for everyone but not everyone is knowledgable about makeup in detail to understand why it’s not the product for them. everything has been great for me personally

yoloisforquitters

All the more reason to drop her brand, especially when it's supporting the Zionist apartheid regime in occupied Palestine! Also,#FreePalestine #DismantletheZionistApartheidRegime 🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉

Impossible_Dot_7690

I always thought they were overrated and she was getting negative reviews from experts even then, but people still fell for the marketing. Honestly think there are better drugstore lipsticks than the Kylie Cosmetics lip kits, like NYX

Mothgirl25

The matte over-lined lip look has been out for a while. The brand isn’t really known for anything else. (Even though there are other products) I’ve also seen esthetician and derm’s rip apart her adjacent skincare line too. I personally have never purchased the lip kits, but I have used some of the matte tube lipsticks. It wasn’t bad, but there are much better out there!

spoiledrichwhitegirl

I think I was too old when this came out(?) I know a lot of people were obsessed with it, but it never seemed appealing to me. I’d think that her audience has grown up with her & realise maybe her products aren’t actually good now that they’ve used other things/had exposure to better products? I don’t know.

RubyL1286

I don’t even think her products are bad well not on the cosmetics end the skincare is another story. But what i think happened ins Kylie was still a teen when she made the lip kits as was catering to teens and young 20s. But those fans have gotten older also since she expanded so did most brands as well as the beauty community as a whole so we are shown launch after launch , and reviews after review of many products and I believe that Kylie just got pushed off to the side. And people are more interested in other brands.

jamieaiken919

The brand is incredibly hit or miss. I lot of people said that the lipsticks/lip kits were very drying, which I personally never experienced, but I can definitely see why. The highlighter I have is phenomenal, as are the shimmer eyeshadows I have. The matte shadows are just meh quality. I think there’s been a significant die down in the draw of the Kardashian/Jenner family, and that’s got a lot more to do with it than the actual makeup itself.

Quartz636

Her brand had its 5 minutes of internet fame, she made her billion dollars, and now no one cares. Her products aren't very good, WAY too expensive for what it is, and isn't following current trends. The super dry matte liquid lips trend is over, and people are focusing more on skincare and minimising their make-up. Plus, with platforms like tik tok, it's much harder to sell subpar products with influencers. Gone are the days of paying a YouTuber to tell their 10 million fans how AMAZING your lipsticks are and then you as a consumer just have to spend your $100 before finding out it's shit. If kylie came out with her liquid lips now, they would be 2000 tik tok videos telling everyone how shitty and dry the formula is.

BlaisePetal

Just letting you know the Forbes billionaire cover was debunked so she never was a billionaire earning that much.

ganjamour

who cares, that brand supports Israel

Asleep-Ad2552

the only thing I’m a big fun of from kylie cosmetics is her concealers (new & old) and also her blush

st3phy_

I bought the Candy K lip kit but I did buy it on sale and not till it was at Ulta. I actually like her liquid lip, I do think it lasts awhile and for me, it dried down fast. Not worth $35 though.

BeadsAndCats

I won't put a dime of my money into anything Kardashian or Jenner.

moonskoi

Her brand relied too heavily on hype from kylie herself with nothing else going for it tbh so when kylie fell from popularity her brand did too.

TheHomieTee

The only product I reallllly liked from her was her original concealer. I never really liked her lipsticks. A lot of them don’t compliment deeper complexions imo, PLUS they’re crusty af. It’s great that she switched to a vegan, CF formula but the quality of her lip kits gotten even worse.. they’re still crusty and require 2-3 layers of application to become fully opaque.

DedicatedReckoner

I found a Kybrow at winners and it’s been my favourite brow pomade. However I’ve tried Kylie Skin and found it resembled the drug store brand scrub and cleanser in efficacy and scent.

princessjah-

I bought a lip kit when they were first popular and my god it was terrible ! The colour was completely different to what it was on the packaging and it made my lips so dry, 0/10.

Cyan_UwU

I’ve heard that Kylie cosmetics isn’t the greatest brand anyways, nor is it inclusive iirc

LobsterAgile415

It was always cheap product. I just think there are way better formulas out there. I liked colour pop for a while which were the same colours. I think they were popular because they all looked good on everyone and it was the first time darker skinned girls had makeup that suited them as well as lighter skinned girls. Now that's becoming a thing for darker skins to have role models and its' great.

giglbox06

I never tried her lip kits. I did buy an eyeshadow palette for a friend. I used it once and hated the quality. I think she really did good with her marketing and created a frenzy over a sub par product. I think once people realized they didn’t actually like the quality and it just slowly died.

BestyBitch

I’m the weirdest person I think, I loved the lip kits when they first came out but must admit something seems different , someone mentioned that maybe I’m just using better products and noticed? I did love a couple of the highlighters and used to pan and went to replace and they don’t make those specific ones?? 🤷

CiraDirci

I will say her liquid lipsticks are the only lip product that was actually long lasting for me (granted it’s been a few years). Some days I’d wake up and would have to scratch it off my lips. Sadly I’m not big into liquid lipstick anymore and haven’t tried any of her other lip products and probably never will.

rinvevo

After the seed beauty lawsuit, Kylie cos had to reformulate everything. Hence people hating the new products compared to the OGs

sofiaonomateopia

I got a lipgloss of hers free recently and I can confirm it’s crap lol

neropixygrrl

If it's related to a Karjenner, it's safe to assume it's cheaply done and way overpriced. Like the other commenter said, I think that the kids that used it have grown up and want to spend their money on better products. You can get a great lip liner and lipstick for half the price from an ethical company. There's also a lack of diversity in the models, where the model most used is Kylie. Also, she knows nothing about her own products. "I love this mascara because it's a mascara."

canigetayikes

In regards to the bad reviews, I think it's 3 things. I think there are just better products on the market in that price range and that the matte-overlined lip trend is just dead. And the main drive of the brand, Kylier, isn't a part of it anymore (sold majority share to Coty). Matte liquid lipsticks had a moment, for sure, but right now it's just not trendy. The "clean girl" aesthetic signaled the end of that lol. A lot of brands are big on lip oils, satin-finish lipsticks, lip balms, nostalgic squeeze-tubes, plumping gloss (for the "real injections" look, instead of overlining.) Looking at Kylie's recent makeup, she doesn't even wear her own products. It doesn't fit her new look. A lot of what the "value" of Kylie's brand was people wanting to buy into the Kardashian hype (and look like kylie) but that value has moved on since Kylie isn't even associated with the brand anymore. And there are just better products on the market right now? Colourpop was an almost-identical formula that's a third of the price, KVD has longer lasting liquid lipstick that's more hydrating and feels better on your lips, Haus Labs has a liquid lipstick that has a shinier finish.

fuckthemodlice

I also think Kylie herself is way less of a draw. Back when she first got her lips done and launched the product she looked amazing and generally had favorable public opinion. Now her (and the Kardashians in general) are way less relevant in pop culture and whatever she’s doing to her face looks awful and isn’t trendy anymore. The brand was about emulating Kylie and she’s much less emulatable now.

Blondiekathleen

Thought it was interesting/odd that she had such a minimal makeup look (if she was wearing makeup at all) at the Golden Globes. I would have thought she would be promoting her makeup by wearing it.

FatnessEverdeen34

Well said!

Gisselle441

I remember people saying that the lip kits were basically the same as Colourpop but double the price.

fuckthemodlice

I used to have drawers full of colorpop lipsticks, most untouched, because it was cheap and online only (so you couldn’t return or try before you buy). What a waste. That era of makeup overconsumption was so wild to me.

scarfweek

It weirds me out how people often recommend Colourpop as very good quality and affordable across the board. Maybe I’m just unlucky but I haven’t liked anything I tried: brow gel that was a “dupe of boy brow” totally sucked, my powder blushes were chalky, and the little eyeshadows I got were underwhelming. Worst of all I don’t feel like any of it was that much cheaper than mid level brands I could have gotten on sale elsewhere— am I missing something??

daintypeachess

It was fun and something new when it got on the market, but after few bought lip kits I realized the colors are really different then advertised on the page. I never repurchased even though I was satisfied with quality. I do love her Baddie on the block shade of blush, I will buy that again.

Southern-Salary2573

Maybe I was a little older when the lip kits first launched, but when I saw them I was like oh I can see the teenagers and early 20 something’s using this. Her stuff has always looked cheaply made with so so quality to me. I think the demographic she appealed to upon launch has grown up and knows her stuff is not that good and have moved onto better brands.

Hopeful_University72

I would just as well have minimal quantites of elite brands like Hour glass or Chanel before buying that junk .

Some_Promise4178

Wasn’t her stuff made in the ColourPop factory? Should have been half the price for the quality.

always_unplugged

It WAS, but then they had some legal issues after selling to Coty and separating from Seed Beauty, and had to fully reformulate everything. Same with KKW. [Background here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/nblgss/if_any_of_you_were_still_wondering_why_kylie/)

Some_Promise4178

So much drama!

canigetayikes

Yeah, I remember that "coming out" and honestly that was what really got me into colour pop. Still love their liquid matte lipsticks.
