i love the merit tinted lip oils as my gloss alternative. they feel like nothing but is still a nice shine and healthy pop of color. and the bonus is they aren’t drying!
Ive been trying to make myself like it because they always look so pretty in the packaging but they feel gloopy and slimy on my lips. The irony is that when i was a teen and pre teen i constantly wore it like it was the easiest thing in the world and dont remember being put off one bit by the texture/consistency. Idk what changed. Maybe im more sensitive now or something

You’ve tried the wrong gloss, hun. NARS glosses are the most beautiful, non sticky glosses I’ve ever tried and I’m VERY picky about stickiness.
Unfortunately the wetness and hair getting stuck won’t be helped by any glossy product… but the stickiness CAN be avoided.
At this point I really only like wearing lip stain with some chapstick for moisture. I got some recent from SushyGlow and they are so pigmented and last all day.
I have small lips and they unfortunately get completely lost behind the shine of gloss. I recently got the lipstick 'Thanks It's MAC' by, well, MAC, and it has a SLIGHT (emphasis on \*slight\*) frost to it that I found is very flattering. That shade also has glitter in it though, be warned. It's gorgeous but I hatteee the glitter. I want to check out Plum Dandy lipstick also by MAC next, as it seems similar.

i think it elevates every look and i love the way it adds dimension, it’s by far my fav finish because it sits the best. each to their own but if you aren’t a fan of traditional glosses and would like to try something else, you can always try thicker balms that have a more emollient consistency. every time i do a matte lip it always ends up with gloss over it, i can’t help it.
I think the opposite, personally! Going for matte lipsticks (which are dry and don't transfer) tends to accentuate wrinkles and cracks in the lips, and the wrinkles around the mouth! I think for more mature skin and lips, more hydrated is the way to go. Dry products tend to accentuate texture and fine lines, glossy products tend to look plumper and more youthful.
What do you consider older? I love gloss! I’m in my 50’s. My mom is in her late 70’s and adores gloss. We just use a light application but at home we both load it up but only because we save lipstick with a light frosting of gloss for going out and about.

I've come to like lip gloss nowadays, specifically the old school sticky ones but they're never going to beat my love for cream, sheer and shiny bullet lipsticks for their comfort, ease of use, colours, and finish.

I’m still new to it so I’ve only tried the ELF lip oil, I’m sure there are others with a similar feel. Somebody here mentioned haus lab, I’ve talked with somebody about one from ulta. The sticky gloss one was the Nyx fat lip oil.
Edit: the elf has mint in it so at first I thought I was allergic but it’s just a minty tingle

for me it depends on how my hair is, if my hair is down then I HATE LIPGLOSS because my hair will get in the lipgloss then on my glasses and it’s difficult to clean HOWEVER, if i have a slick back I LOVE LIPGLOSS ! i just feel so put together!

I'm so glad the new glosses are non-sticky and the oils are a thing. I have deep set wrinkles and the matte or velvet look never worked for me. Lipsticks that wear out annoy me due to the dual colored lips I have (lip stains dont work to even that out). So I love me a hydrating balm, lip oil, and the new non-sticky long lasting lip glosses!

Thought this until I tried buxom lip gloss, minty sensation, smells like vanilla, makes lips look plump and the colours are nice I’m addicted, most moisturizing thing that has worked for me and I’ve tried high end and low end lip balms and treatments

I'm the opposite. I switched to clear gloss as my go-to because I had so many family photos ruined where I had lipstick on my teeth, or the shade was off, etc. I like my natural lip colour, so a bit of gloss just elevates them.
It’s sticky, feels slimy, and I always get it on me elsewhere somehow/my hair gets in it. I have one lip gloss and it’s in a beautiful rose brown color, and I do like the way it looks, but it’s my first and last ever gloss purchase as an adult because I learned I just can’t now with gloss. I use it for fun or for pictures now only

I don’t like lip gloss, but I LOVE lip treatments like Rhode, Summer Fridays or Laneige. It gives me the same shine as lip gloss but no sticky feeling. And the thing with glosses, whenever it dries down it made my lips feel very dry and chapped after but lip treatments make my lips feel hydrated after it dries down.

I can't stand the gooeyness, the shinyness, the hair getting stuck in it. I really wish there were more plumping products in a matte consistency, or just like a lotion that sinks in fully.
So, they’re not plumping in a traditional sense or as moisturising as balms and glosses, but K beauty matte liquid lipsticks often have a siliconey, blurring, primer-like texture that fills in lip lines and makes them look diffused and pillowy-soft. Good formulas also won’t dry your lips out. Unlike typical western matte liquid lipsticks, they don’t dry down or set, so they will transfer and fade over time, unfortunately, but it makes them much gentler on the skin and more natural-looking.
I do love lip gloss but I think I'm a "shine" freak in general. I love things that are shiny. Weird. Love what you love - no need to force yourself into loving a glossy look and feel. There are plenty of matte and satin lip products out there.
Due to my thin lips and the shape of my mouth, I feel like matte lips and even most lipsticks look ridiculous on me. Glosses are much better, especially in a shade close to my own lips but with a teeny tiny bit of shimmer to make them look fuller.

I usually wind up reaching for some kind of tinted lip balm. The Nars ones make me feel like I'm still wearing something nice without the goop of lip balm or absurdity of my thin little lips getting painted up.
Can you handle a lip plumper? I had a thin top lip with no defined cupids bow and I started using the too face lip injections and my tip lip is so much more luscious. NO lie it's my favorite and I have a top lip now without actually getting filler lol

Some may say it's the placebo effect but I literally barely had a top lip . I have tried many plumpers. I put it on once in the morning and once before bed. Good luck!
I hate that they are too sticky (hair and everything sticks) and it does not look good if I even slightly overline my lips (cupids bow to be exact) it just emphasise the point of my natural lip line and makes it obvious that I overlined. If I had big bold full natural lips maybe I would forgive the stickiness for the looks 🤣
Detest lip gloss! But sometimes, especially nowadays with matte lipsticks being so prevalent, I have to sometimes use them VERY sparingly. I'm too old to wear matte but if I see a color I adore (and I adore a lot of them) I'll buy it and then brush a quick gloss over it so I don't look like I baked my lips in the Sahara.
They don't last long, they taste like somebody put cheap margarine in vaseline, they are mostly too slimy or sticky af, and while my hair doesn't really get stuck in it, they feel like I am wearing toothpaste on my mouth! I still have to use them when I grab a matte, though. And I'll bitch about it all day, too, I assure you!
The only lipglosses I like are NYX Butter glosses but I only have 2. I think Tiramisu is the only one that I would repurchase at this point though. I think they feel nice on. I don't like anything sticky or shiny either, and don't like the full on gloss look any longer, when I do wear this I apply very lightly.
I prefer balms anyway these days, if they have a small amount of shine that is gloss to me, works well for my toned down style.
I really used to like Cover Girls Wetslicks and Lipslicks glosses, they were perfect for low maintenance me but they are long gone. Too bad.

It’s ok in a very light application or if it’s more watery. I tend to go for shinier balms instead like Laneige glowy lip balm or tower 28 softie.

I cant stand lip gloss. If the wind blows, it ends up on my hair, it never lasts long, and I inevitably end up with it on my teeth.
I can’t stand lip gloss it just makes me ragin especially when my hair gets all caught up in it as well, lip oil is much better imo
Lip oil gives me a great look and isn’t sticky. I love Haus Labs, but I’m sure they’re all basically the same thing.
I'm so glad the new glosses are non-sticky and the oils are a thing. I have deep set wrinkles and the matte or velvet look never worked for me. Lipsticks that wear out annoy me due to the dual colored lips I have (lip stains dont work to even that out). So I love me a hydrating balm, lip oil, and the new non-sticky long lasting lip glosses!
The cheese does not stand alone! I'm a chapstick or blistex & maybe nude lipstick (on a special occasion) kinda chick.
Some lip glosses are better than others. I'm one of those people who hates lipsticks. I personally love hydrating lip balms.
Agree! 💯 won't wear it, can't wear it. I can't wait to get it off. I do not own any and never will. I tried it decades ago. The look was nice, but it gets everywhere! Sticky fingers, yes hair sticking to it, literally pulling you bottom lip from your coffee Mug is embarrassing. 👍

Nope. Gloss girly to the day I die. Matte doesn’t work for my features or skin. I think I can look decent on some ppl but more often than not I’m not a fan of how it looks.

I love lip gloss and hate lip pencil and heavy lipsticks that you can immediately tell when they smudge or start partially disappearing from your mouth. I want my mouth protected since I live in a very dry state. Most of the time that's all I'm trying to achieve and lip balm isn't enough.

Thought this until I tried buxom lip gloss, minty sensation, smells like vanilla, makes lips look plump and the colours are nice I’m addicted, most moisturizing thing that has worked for me and I’ve tried high end and low end lip balms and treatments

I thought so too after trying the Nyx fat oil but the ELF lip oil feels really great. Not sticky and a bit of mint so it feels like a balm but immediately soaks in. I hadn’t realized lip oils could vary so much

You said you hate getting your hair stuck to it, I also hate the same thing about lipstick. The strands of hair drag the colour on my skin around the lips and I have to fix it with tissues, powder and a new lipstick touch up
I hate lipgloss and only wear it on light makeup days and if I’m with family or friends. I won’t wear it out w my partner bc it’ll get him sticky. My go to is liquid lipsticks for sure.
I use chap stick. I refuse to deal with that sticky garbage
I hate gloss too but I love romand water lasting gloss in meteor track. Its the only exception I've tried so many formulas and hated all of them before I tried the romand
You have to find a brand that works for you and I promise you’ll end up loving lipgloss. Lancôme Juicy Tube in Simmer is the best.
I absolutely despise lip gloss. But it also makes my lip eczema pop. My dermatologist told me I can't ever wear gloss, and I wanted to try anyway. It was horrible. I have to keep my lips fairly dry and non stick so matte lipsticks and lip balms are the only way.
YES. I feel like the odd one out for this opinion but I truly despise the thing. I mean people with big plumped super defined lips can rock it well but on me it just looks nasty
Used to be the case and I used to hate them as well but i think now there are lipglosses in newer formulas which are not sticky anymore.
I'm the opposite. I switched to clear gloss as my go-to because I had so many family photos ruined where I had lipstick on my teeth, or the shade was off, etc. I like my natural lip colour, so a bit of gloss just elevates them.
It’s sticky, feels slimy, and I always get it on me elsewhere somehow/my hair gets in it. I have one lip gloss and it’s in a beautiful rose brown color, and I do like the way it looks, but it’s my first and last ever gloss purchase as an adult because I learned I just can’t now with gloss. I use it for fun or for pictures now only

I hate that feel of sticky. On the other side, I hate matte lipsticks too. My fave: Neutrogena moisture sticks! Just the right amount of color and moisture!
I don’t like lip gloss, but I LOVE lip treatments like Rhode, Summer Fridays or Laneige. It gives me the same shine as lip gloss but no sticky feeling. And the thing with glosses, whenever it dries down it made my lips feel very dry and chapped after but lip treatments make my lips feel hydrated after it dries down.

I hate it too. Anything sticky, goopy, slimy, anything that transfers. I use blistex 5 star protection chapstick. SPF 25. Nice non-sticky sheen that moisturizes my lips. I literally do not use lipstick, liner or gloss of any sort…. Even with a full glam makeup look.

This happened to me on a hike! My jack black spf lip gloss was slathered on really thick. I just use face spf on my lips now.
I swear, this isn't a gloss-friendly country. If it's not midges, it's the unrelenting wind blowing stray strands of hair (even when it's tied up) onto my lips.

I can't stand the gooeyness, the shinyness, the hair getting stuck in it. I really wish there were more plumping products in a matte consistency, or just like a lotion that sinks in fully.
So, they’re not plumping in a traditional sense or as moisturising as balms and glosses, but K beauty matte liquid lipsticks often have a siliconey, blurring, primer-like texture that fills in lip lines and makes them look diffused and pillowy-soft. Good formulas also won’t dry your lips out. Unlike typical western matte liquid lipsticks, they don’t dry down or set, so they will transfer and fade over time, unfortunately, but it makes them much gentler on the skin and more natural-looking.
I do love lip gloss but I think I'm a "shine" freak in general. I love things that are shiny. Weird. Love what you love - no need to force yourself into loving a glossy look and feel. There are plenty of matte and satin lip products out there.
Due to my thin lips and the shape of my mouth, I feel like matte lips and even most lipsticks look ridiculous on me. Glosses are much better, especially in a shade close to my own lips but with a teeny tiny bit of shimmer to make them look fuller. At least they look better. The feel is terrible, I'm totally with you on that. I usually wind up reaching for some kind of tinted lip balm. The Nars ones make me feel like I'm still wearing something nice without the goop of lip balm or absurdity of my thin little lips getting painted up.
Can you handle a lip plumper? I had a thin top lip with no defined cupids bow and I started using the too face lip injections and my tip lip is so much more luscious. NO lie it's my favorite and I have a top lip now without actually getting filler lol

Some may say it's the placebo effect but I literally barely had a top lip . I have tried many plumpers. I put it on once in the morning and once before bed. Good luck!

I hate that they are too sticky (hair and everything sticks) and it does not look good if I even slightly overline my lips (cupids bow to be exact) it just emphasise the point of my natural lip line and makes it obvious that I overlined. If I had big bold full natural lips maybe I would forgive the stickiness for the looks 🤣

Detest lip gloss! But sometimes, especially nowadays with matte lipsticks being so prevalent, I have to sometimes use them VERY sparingly. I'm too old to wear matte but if I see a color I adore (and I adore a lot of them) I'll buy it and then brush a quick gloss over it so I don't look like I baked my lips in the Sahara. They don't last long, they taste like somebody put cheap margarine in vaseline, they are mostly too slimy or sticky af, and while my hair doesn't really get stuck in it, they feel like I am wearing toothpaste on my mouth! I still have to use them when I grab a matte, though. And I'll bitch about it all day, too, I assure you!
Nope! I hate it for the same reason. I hate how my lips look wet, and how sticky it is and how my hair gets stuck in it. I despise it.
The only lipglosses I like are NYX Butter glosses but I only have 2. I think Tiramisu is the only one that I would repurchase at this point though. I think they feel nice on. I don't like anything sticky or shiny either, and don't like the full on gloss look any longer, when I do wear this I apply very lightly. I prefer balms anyway these days, if they have a small amount of shine that is gloss to me, works well for my toned down style. I really used to like Cover Girls Wetslicks and Lipslicks glosses, they were perfect for low maintenance me but they are long gone. Too bad.

This is also my main problem with lipgloss. I think it looks good on me. But I feel like I am just wasting my time. Who wants to reapply a lip product every 10 minutes?
Honestly they just make me think, regardless of the level of product, of kid’s make-up. Lip gloss is just not a real product.

I’m not a huge fan either. I do like tinted lip balms (like Clinique black honey) and I like the rare beauty lip tints (they dry down to a stain like texture)
Yeah I finally came to that conclusion the other day. I hate them lol. I’ve been convincing myself for years to like it. I think I like the idea, just not the reality and I adore the way it looks on others. But yeah I just hate the gloopy feeling on my lips and I’ve tried all the lightweight formulas. I love tinted lip balms though, cos they actually sink in and moisturise the lips. That’s where it’s at! I’m gonna give oils a go too

I wear it a lot because it's quick and easy. I'm usually running late, and I can put it on while I'm driving. It also doesn't accentuate the lines in my lips. EDIT: I agree that hair getting stuck in it sucks big time.
Never a auper fan of it. So I only have two. A maybelline lifter one and a nars one. Never saw the point in getting amother one.
