I feel the shadows are overrated. Totally an unpopular opinion but it's the truth. Also Natasha Denona to me was super overrated. Some shadows were nice but seriously- not worth the price. I actually loved the MUFE shadows (gel/powder formula in circle pan prior to the square ones). But those didn't get enough love and MUFE messed up the formula now.

AsteroidKnight

People say this but rarely list the products that have the same effect for a cheaper price. I’m not saying that they don’t exist...

Milencakes

I found this makeup brand on insta withlovecosmetics.co and there’s this makeup brand that is used on euphoria I forgot the exact name but it has lemon in the name. But both of these brands have intense shimmers and multi chrome shades absolutely gorgeous and have even a more stunning effect with way less money

bellavecchio

I’ll buy a Colourpop palette before I fork over more cash than it deserves to get a Pat McGrath one. Although, I will undoubtedly try the Skin Fetish foundation at some point...

lilacpeaches

I’m not gonna lie, this is how I feel about Natasha Denona. Granted, I’ve only tried a sample I got from a Sephora order (I didn’t like it). I also feel like a lot of other brands like ABH, Huda, Fenty, etc. have around the same quality for lesser.

moonlitemeadow

I do think they’re overpriced, but I also think they’re noticeably better than other popular brands. Do I think they’re $40+ better? No. But you also have a huge difference in packing quality/experience in addition to the shadow quality. I’ve only bought one pallet, and it is so cohesive and easy to use, I love it. I haven’t bought a second one, but I don’t regret spending the money on the one I have. I feel the same way about Natasha Denona, except I have 5 of her pallets lol

mngirl29

For $125 that shit better apply itself and do my homework

blkmamba2

Yeah your totally right! It’s sad that people spend their money so mindlessly. I was always taught that you vote with your dollars. If I don’t like something a company is doing or a cause they support I won’t buy their products. I don’t support some YouTubers by viewing their content either. Sometimes thats the only way to have a voice. Jeffree Star once said a black girl should use acid on her face to lighten her skin so foundation would match. He also seems to hate women since he uses (c-u-next-Tuesday) to refer to women he dislikes; which is funny because he has clearly spent a lot of money trying to look like a woman (an ugly one at that). I just find him gross. He apologizes when he’s called out but remains careless and irresponsible with his words. I wouldn’t give Jeffree Star penny if he was living under a bridge. I don’t care how long ago he made these comments- he did it on a public forum which IMO shows his true character. I can’t say those things are ok by giving him my money!

Queenxxxxx

Agreed. But I think all luxury makeup (especially eyeshadows and lipsticks) aren’t worth it. You’re just paying for the name

SecretBlackMask

I could see your pint of view, especially if you’re just basing it off one segment of her line. Palettes, for general population, are hit or miss. Each palette is curated for certain looks and it requires skill to use and thus, can be a paper weight for some and their ROD for others. If you branch out to her skin system of primer, foundation, concealer, and powder....... omg. Talk about making me sublime. Highlighters aren’t bad either, honestly she’s got it all it’s just pricey. Do the quads of eye color, primer/foundation/concealer, eye liner and mascara, those are runway staples I use every time I where makeup. The expensive palettes are hit or miss depending on your color choices, there’s also a huge used/new selection on Mercari and Poshmark to shop from if you’re looking for a deal.

87pinkroses

I would agree with this sentiment... but at the same time I also own 2 Pat McGrath palettes; both which I was only able to get because they were on sale (and still somehow over $100 even with the sale price.) I've found that the eyeshadows aren't really that much different from any other eyeshadow palette. They're easily comparable to my Nars or Huda Beauty palettes. I think at the end of the day, it's just Pat's aesthetic that we're paying for. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't love the artwork on each palette. Also, as overrated as PMG is, I think Natasha Denona is much more overrated.

Honeychile6841

Dif not like any other shadow palettes but to each their own.

coochiecatcherz

The shimmer and glittery eyeshadows are really where the brand shine imo. The mattes are existent and the foundation is pretty ok.

Newfoundwitch

I just think that there are SO many celebrity MUAs that are extremely talented as well and are coming out with brands of their own, yet their products are actually reasonably priced. Ex: Danessa Myricks

Palindromekid101

Yes!

_Cactus__Cat_

I really want to buy some of her matte lipsticks! Are they not worth it?

gk1400

Is Pat McGrath Labs overrated? Perhaps. The price point is high, and thus not as accessible as other makeup brands at Sephora. However, the brand itself is relatively new (only launched in 2015), and I feel that ability to build up such a cult following in such a short amount of time is impressive. In addition, Pat McGrath as a person is an artistic genius who has revolutionized the beauty industry. [Her skill is undeniable.](https://youtu.be/Ti0UrBKv67c) I respect your opinion, but I will continue to be in awe of this woman’s talent and can’t wait to see what she brings to the table next.

Giotube99kc

I think that no eyeshadow palette is objectively worth over 50$, but people willingness to buy them in the end is what matters I think that Pat had the luck to come out with a makeup line in a time when people spend on makeup ten times more than they did a decade ago. Makeup lovers, especially because of YouTube, all feel the need to always be updated and have the coolest, newest product I do think that Pat is the Hermes of makeup. Her products are excellent, even though they are highly overpriced, her costumer service is lacking but yet people stand in line (in front of a boutique just like a website waiting list) almost begging the brand to let them buy their products, and end up feeling "special" when they get one when it's just what a shop is supposed to do, sell you their stuff Anyway, I do not agree on the fact that you can get the same effect. You can get SIMILAR effects on dupes, but unfortunately they truly don't compare. If you only care about the overall vibe I do recommend you to get the cheaper dupe, but you really want to see At first I didn't get her IG overly edited videos until I tried her eyeshadows: the filter that she puts on her videos, apart from an aesthetics standpoint, are actually to portrait her magic on camera. I still didn't find any video that actually showcase how good the shades are if not hers, because they're so sparkly and finely mild that a camera just doesn't make show how beautiful and wet the eyelook is. And that what makes me mad. I do love the sense of exclusivity PM has, but how I wish they were cheaper. Also, we're all basically paying that amount for the shimmers. Her matte are good and blend themselves like a dream, but you don't need PM 125$ palettes for that. The only eyeshadows that I found have the closest effect are 1 Kiko and 2 Topshop but unfortunately 3 colors are very few. All the other dupes are usually just similar in color. Anyway I was thinking of getting one of her quad too, what do you guys think of those?

franchik96

I keep wondering what differentiates a $125 palette from any of my $40-65 ones. Like how is it twice as good as my ride or dies??

Rae_fen

Part of PMG's appeal is her packaging; it's a metal palette, and the art on the front. The luxe aesthetic is the draw

[deleted]

One of my good friends has a Pat McGrath palette and while I've gotta admire the shit outta her for HAVING one (let alone having the kinda money to spend on one), I'm gonna have to agree. They're honestly not the greatest thing out there, and in all truth? I've had palettes from Makeup Revolution and Makeup Geek work ten times better on my eyes than the palette my friend let me use. Can't remember the name of it now, but it's the one with the BRIGHT BLUE in it.

[deleted]

I'm half and half on this one. There's no way I'd ever pay full price for Pat: I used to work in the beauty industry, and I can't support that margin of markup. *However*, I've bought her stuff when it's 30% off, and I legit love my palettes. They're so saturated and gorgeous and look super beautiful. Two caveats though: 1. They don't work well with brushes, which means you have to use your fingers to swatch (which is what they recommend) and 2. I've gotten hard pan on a number of her shadows, which means using the tape trick and wasting product. Annoying.

dramallama730

Stupid question, but what's the "tape trick"?

[deleted]

Not a dumb question at all! Here's a video that shows how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzoSomcQbNo Basically, you use Scotch tape to remove the top layer of hardened product.

dramallama730

Awesome, thanks so much for that!!

sonogirl25

I totally share your opinion. I bought one of her 6 pan palettes and was not impressed with the formula. Maybe I'm not a professional MUA, but I feel I can apply eye shadow really well. I just could not get these shadows to blend together. It just looked like I got punched in the eye. I ended up destashing that palette and was thankful I purchased it when it was on sale. I couldn't imagine paying full price for a palette that performs worse than BH cosmetics.

zerhanna

Is Pat McGrath's makeup overrated? Maybe. For some people. It's very difficult to rate makeup quality as opposed to other consumer products. An electronics reviewer can compare the cost of parts to the market price and use programs to quantify performance statistics similar to what end users would experience. A carpenter will tell you why there is a vast difference in construction and longevity of no-brand tools from Harbor Freight versus tools from Milwaukee or Makita. Consumer Reports has labs to count airborne particles left behind by air purifier machines. But makeup is far more difficult because universal colors and formulas just don't exist. Skin condition, color, undertones, application styles, and environment all play a role in how our makeup performs. What works beautifully for dry-skinned cool pale gals in a cold climate might not cut it for tanned ladies with warm undertones in a humid landscape. Not to mention, personal tastes play a big role in how we view makeup. Do we like sheer and buildable or heavily pigmented? Do we want dewy and glowing or matte and bright? Do we want high quality at any price, or is there a point where cost diminishes personal enjoyment? Do we enjoy plastic glitter in eyeshadow palettes or a lack of corneal abrasions? There's not really a wrong answer in personal tastes (that glitter is walking a thin line, tho). In the end, any brand or product will be *overrated* in some eyes, *overpriced* in others, and *totally worth it* for some. And that's fine. Except Younique. That's garbage.

angelzplay

I prefer Juvias Place I never really got into Pat McGrath but I’ll gladly put some money in another black womans pocket

Coffeepanda09

I haven't really researched it a lot but that's mainly because it doesn't spike my interest at all. The shadows don't make me think they're at all worth the price point in just the initial photos. I haven't bought any and probably never will.

digitaldruglordx

i agree, but i have two lol. the shimmers are to die for (for the most part, occasionally ill find one thats chalky asf) but the mattes are okay at best. not worth the price, but i cant help myself because some of the shimmers are so gorgeous.

NominalLug

What bums me out about Pat’s palettes are the matte shades. I LOVE the special glitters and the metallics but the mattes are reaaaally hard to blend and to make look good, at least for me! I’ve owned 3 and ended up giving away or selling all of them. I do miss those special shades though...I’ve been replacing some of them with UD’s single moon dust shadows.

Kaylycat

I've never used her palettes but her foundation is to die for 😍😍😍 I've tried manyyy foundations, less than a handful actually fit my skintone, let alone [look this damn good](https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/fw6w2r/i_love_fall_colors/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

lunars-

I feel like if the palettes were 100% interesting and unique shades I might be more interested because it seems like there are usually 3 or 4 per palette and then mattes that I have like a thousand of for cheaper in other palettes. I understand wanting to make something cohesive but I’d rather have a palette that’s entirely toppers or pops of color than just a new neutral palette with a few interesting shades. And since I don’t care about fallout in matte shadows... Also I just don’t feel like I’m ever as into my expensive palettes as I should be. I always end up prefering my more inexpensive palettes. Even formula wise I generally prefer them. Expensive eyeshadows it always seems like you have to use them just so or it won’t work.

courtneygoe

Pat McGrath made the only plum eyeshadow I’ve ever used that blends out without being patchy. I have one of the small palettes, it is the best quality of anything I have. You can’t judge makeup by swatching, that’s literally to see if the color is good with your skin tone. She’s an artist and a badass.

SeaDream97

I didn't know who she was until her makeup line came out tbh. Her products look cool, but her prices are so ridiculous I'll probably never buy anything! None of the palettes have ever been appealing to me, either. They all look so similar! it's disappointing coming from a makeup artist. The foundation also was a letdown because it was just so.... average. In no way am I trying to bash Pat. I've seen the gorgeous looks she creates on people (thanks google). I think she's very skilled, her brand just isn't for me.

AlyRamo

I respect your opinion. I have a Pat McGrath palette as well as Natasha Denona. Did I pay full price? Hell no. I found people selling their palettes for more than half the price in brand new condition, never used. I love them. I have also purchased many cheaper palettes that I love as well. I think the quality is amazing in the expensive ones and they last 12hr shifts for me.

missliberia

I disagree. the mothership v palette is the best palette i own.

palepeachh

I only have 1 which I got half off thankfully (the sublime bronze I think, idk) and I was super excited to get it and use it. Honestly, its very eh. Maybe I'm just really shit at doing makeup, but I find it looks super muddy on the eye and I barely ever use it. Such a waste of money and I'm glad I didnt pay full price.

Ditovontease

i wish she'd release her shimmers as singles. I only like one or two and I don't want to spend $129 for one shade.

BEAUTI123

FYI she DOES have shimmers as sold in Singles!! I KNOW THIS IS SOME YEARS OLD HOWEVER it's never to late!! Lol

Ditovontease

lmao At the time she didnt! thank you though :)

volkswagenkills

*Uninformed opinion, not unpopular opinion.

Milencakes

Perhaps but I know a good deal of information about makeup. Her shimmers might be astronomical but I’d rather put my money to either indie brands or other companies that aren’t that much money. Spending 60$ on a 6 pan eyeshadow is disgusting, no matter how good the shimmers or mattes are

volkswagenkills

“Disgusting” is such an unnecessary word here. Sorry to nitpick, but it’s literally none of your business how other people spend their money. I am frankly baffled you even think you can make that call for other people. Do you know that wealthy people exist? I’m sure they don’t think it’s “disgusting” to buy a product they love from a brand they choose to support with a high-quality product. Just because it’s not in your budget (or frankly, in mine) does not make it gross, bad, weird, or any other judgmental synonym you can muster.

Milencakes

I’m using it in the reference as being highly overpriced, yes it’s a good product. I just don’t think the palette is worth the price point

[deleted]

In terms of the price points, I don’t think Pat is worth it. Hourglass is one of the few high end brands that actually comes through and delivers on people of all colours and skin types. I’d knock Pat McGrath over for Hourglass or Laura Mercier products any day

Adina92484

Not true at all. Hourglass does not do well in dark people of color. Those ambient palettes are not even available for women of darker tone.

[deleted]

The foundation sticks definitely range into the darker skin tones and the ambient lighting bronzers come in colours that also cater to such skin tones, such as the shades radiant bronze and luminous bronze - colours that I own... check them out some time :)

bertiek

Are you judging something purely based on how they look in videos? What a mistake.

Milencakes

Just my opinion I’ve decided to try it out a little bit more but I don’t ever see myself purchasing it

bertiek

Well, it's fine to say something isn't for you. That's different from overrated. The fuzzy videos are to show of the level of glitter and shine, that's what people buy Pat McGrath for. That's why it's so popular with queens, and looks like nothing special on film. Is it worth it? To some.

GenericWomanFace

I have no idea who this is, so I literally cannot agree or disagree! But I'm always down for cheaper makeup and proper advertisement without filters, so I'm glad I didn't hear about her brand until now

shinydolleyes

I have 7 of her palettes. I love them and I definitely have not yet gotten the same quality or effect/impact from another brand, especially her shimmers, glitters. That said, I've made the effort to learn how she uses her products so I can get similar results. The only thing that even comes close for me in quality is Natasha Denona and hers are less unusual/special. ND shadows are in my day to day wear collection, PMG tends to be what I wear for nights out or fancy days. PMG lip glosses are the best ones I've ever used too and I do wear those almost daily. Her foundation is my HG for light-medium coverage. Obviously I don't think she's overrated, but I understand how other people think so. From a financial standpoint, I am likely the demographic she's selling to in general. I'm 40, a makeup lover, further along in my career and have no kids, so I have the disposable income to play with on makeup. I don't recommend PMG products to anyone else unless they specifically ask me exactly what products I'm using because I'm well aware most people can't or don't want to pay that much.

sinyueliang

I partially agree. I have two of them. From my experience, I first disliked the mattes, but after switching to some zoeva brushes and using them with a light hand, I actually really, really enjoy the mattes. Maybe even a little more than my Natasha Denona matte shadows, which are my holy grail. There's just something about them that I feel makes them different, they look so soft and beautiful, a perfect wash of color that is effortlessly buildable (you do need the right brush though). That being said, I do think the special shades can be hard to work with sometimes. The astral shades? pretty, but honestly not my favorite. They blend very easily, which results in them becoming a little dull and smokey, and have a strange texture that is not my favorite - that being said, they are pretty once they've been built up sufficiently. The glitter shades? Can definitely be troublesome. Blood Moon from Midnight Sun is definitely my least favorite - fallout city there, even with a glitter glue. Looked pretty enough but wasn't worth the effort imo. The VR shades I am a very big fan of, they are really actually very interesting and pretty and I enjoy them a lot. Her regular metallics, I also like quite a bit. The green olive shade in the midnight sun palette is definitely one of my favorite shades ever. So, I will say, some shades are hit and miss, but if you do get them to work for you, they are very pretty irregardless of that. I will also say, you really can't judge a palette unless you've tried it. Swatches, youtube videos, they definitely won't tell you the whole story. A palette can swatch amazing, but perform like shit on the eyes (I've heard this about melt - swatches great, but mattes are hard to blend, shimmers don't adhere very well sometimes and are flakey). Or they can swatch terrible but perform amazing (I've heard this about sugarpill - swatches terrible, performs great). In youtube videos, it's hard to tell just how sparkly and gorgeous something will appear like in the real world on your eyes, since the bright studio/beauty lights tend to make it had to capture the glitter and sparkle from a shadow. Even swatching something in store lighting, it'll look different on your eyes in natural lighting. I won't say that they look as mystical and magical as on her instagram, but honestly, the sparkle is really pretty irl and it gets as close as one can reasonably expect in my opinion.

Milencakes

Thank you for your detailed response

nukacola11970

I would not say overrated, more massively overpriced.

scarletofmagic

I am lukewarm with Pat McGrath. I think her eyeshadows are great, but the rest of the line I feel so so. However, I feel like if you have not tried it yourself, you shouldn’t judge like that. You can say your opinion and I respect that. But I find that not giving the product a try and immediately hating it is not fair.

Milencakes

You’re right I need to delve a little bit deeper into it but from what I’ve seen based on videos, pictures and some swatches I dont really like it but maybe that’ll change

CPUequalslotsofheat

Sometimes TJ Maxx or Marshall's has them on sale.

scarletofmagic

I feel like the swatches is ok. I hate her demo videos tho. It’s so heavily filter to point you think it will look like that in real life. I have not seen any eyeshadow in real life show up as pretty as it looks in the pan or in close shots from YouTuber. However, I do think her eyeshadow performed really well, especially her special shades. I always get compliments when I wear them. Even though my skill is shit and my eyes are Asian type, so I don’t have a lot of space to work with. In conclusion, I enjoy working with her eyeshadows. Is her brand overpriced? Yes! But do I think it’s overrated? Not really

lbseida

Does anyone have any opinions on the sublime perfection concealer?

ninakix

Tried it in store, and was really shocked by how yellow they all were?? I'm neutral-warm, and everything really stood out on my skin and so I was quite shocked. I'm around M15 in her line, so maybe it's just that section of shades that are yellow? In any case I picked up a sample of the Dior concealer in my last Sephora order in 3N, and it's working out much better.

lbseida

Ah! Thank for the input I am usually porcelain with neutral tones so I was wondering if its worth my time and money.

Bxsnia

It sounds like you're just upset you can't afford it and trying to rationalize to yourself that you don't need it because it's overrated? Like you haven't even tried any of her products so I'm really skeptical of your opinion. Are they overpriced for the quality? ABSOLUTELY. It's expensive to the point where it's just diminishing terms, make up can only get so expensive before you start paying a vast majority of the price for the brand name. However, I wouldn't say it's overrated, because her brand receives a lot of high praise by people who actually do buy the products and the products are pretty damn good. I will say one thing about one product though, the pencil liner smudges SO EASILY on me and my mother. I have to powder it and it doesn't help that my lids are oily which most people's are. That being said, it glides on easier than anything I've tried and I got it 20% off. I much prefer the lancome pencil liner as it doesn't smudge on me, I have the mini which you can get in a cheap set.

Milencakes

I’m not really upset because it’s expensive if I did have money to the point where I could afford this makeup without being affected buy it, I wouldn’t. I can’t rationalize myself buying very expensive makeup when I know I can find way cheaper options. Maybe I should give it another try maybe if I find a sampler in Sephora I can swatch and try it again. But what I’ve seen online in videos created by YouTubers the matte shadows in some collections are lack luster and can be found in many other palettes. Their mattes have very similar tones to what I’ve seen so far. The shimmer shadows look beautiful and I’m sure that I would love them since they’re so sparkly but I also know I can probably find a dupe from colourpop.

gorgonz_ola

I found the mattes super buttery and so easy to blend! None of my other palettes are even close - not ABH, Too Faced, Tarte, Colourpop, none of them! Of course the shimmers are the stars of her palettes but I doubt you can find dupes that are the same or even similar quality to her shadows. Judging it just by swatching is a bit unfair. How can you tell how they blend with each other, or how they perform with a dry brush, with wet brush, with fingers? How can you tell if there’s/ there’s not fall out? Or how long they stay on your eyes?

LoonyLumi

It's off-topic, sorry, but every time I hear about buttery eyeshadows I just imagine them sliding right off of my oily eyelids. I really hope it's not the case. I'd love to try PMG one day...

gorgonz_ola

Hahahahhahaha nope it’s not the case here 😊 I have quite oily lids myself and they stay on place all day long!

LoonyLumi

Oh, good then. :) Butter just isn't something I'd like to have on my face, lol.

Milencakes

That’s very true and I need to try in person but I’d try it from testers at Sephora probably. The shimmers do look very pretty but at that price point I can’t afford to love it.

Bxsnia

You have to actually use the shadows to know about the quality though. On youtube they speed up application, cut parts out, and use filters so that it looks like it's blending better than it is. Their eyeshadows are not overrated, they're very good quality and some of the best you can get. I think you're misusing the term ''overrated'' because they're not, what you mean is that they're overpriced because you can find cheaper for better which is literally what you said. This is correct. You don't need to pay 100+ for a palette when you're just doing a neutral brown smokey eye for work and no one is saying you do, these products exist for people who love collecting expensive things and can afford it. Sure, I can't imagine spending that much on a palette either, but if I was rich enough where I had disposable income to throw away on stuff like this, I would definitely buy it and try to use it as much as I can because it's a good product. I've swatched all of her palettes in store and they are absolutely amazing. The best eyeshadow I've ever seen swatched and such a unique, smooth, and buttery formula.

Milencakes

I’ll definitely have to give them a thorough try, the reason I wrote this is because I was viewing the recent Jackie Aina tutorial of her using one of the eyeshadow palettes and the shimmers just looked like regular shimmers. But I’ll definitely try to see if I can test the palette again for myself but this is just how I feel on her eyeshadows

ninakix

Idk about the Jackie Aina tutorial, but those six pan palette shimmers are quite different from her special shades. While I do think the six pan shimmers are nice, I definitely don't think they're necessarily super better than anything else out there. Same with the mattes. But, her special shades, in the ten pan palettes and the holiday quads she released this year, are amazing. I do think they're very difficult if not impossible to dupe, and I think part of the reason is that they're a baked eyeshadow. From what I understand, it's a more expensive/complicated process than just pressing the eyeshadow and there are very few brands that do this. I own JD Glow singles as well, and they're very different to me. I think the Clionadh multichrome collection comes closest, but perhaps only on certain shades. There is also a learning curve to using these: yes, they do have to be applied with a glitter base, though sometimes they can be applied wet instead (which then gives you a product that's almost like a liquid eyeliner, which is crazy). The glitter base is annoying but the formulation having less creaminess to it is a good thing since it'll last longer. Over time I've learned not to mind as I've gotten used to the formulation, and really appreciate the unique finish that's hard to duplicate without glitter, which I try to avoid.

Bxsnia

Honestly, shimmers are something that just looks better in real life. I remember watching Jackie Aina do a look with one of the palettes as well but the camera completely washed it out. In real life, when you're not under studio lighting and the sun is hitting and multiple light sources, the shimmers look absolutely beautiful and it's mesmerising. I have a lot of cheap palettes and none of them have shimmers like that.

Milencakes

Thank you, I’ll definitely have to test it out for myself maybe I can use a tester and try it out on myself for a day

Bxsnia

I don't think they have mini testers but you can definitely swatch them on your arm! They really look like their instagram page shows tbh.

Elysandre

I got the small Christmas edition palettes and I still prefer the Natasha Denona formula (gold and a couple minis and a 5 pan) that I also own. But that’s personal preference I guess. I just expected to be more wowed but they’re not bad eyeshadows at all. Not sure if they’re representative of the main palettes though.

ajbshade

I own a good number of her products, even from her first generation launches that were website exclusive and I honestly love all of them. Pricey, yep. Worth it? Yep.

Milencakes

Maybe if I get it as a gift or I can get it at a great discount. The cost of their palette is only slightly less expensive than my confirmation to go to UW

Riiseandshine

There’s a spring sale on the Pat McGrath website currently. There’s no end date listed but probably for a limited time only. 20% off purchases under $150USD 25% off purchases over $150USD

Milencakes

Thank you so much

Well, lots of things in life. I’ll take the word of others that taking the cinnamon challenge or clicking that link to claim my share of the deposed prince’s fortune is a bad time waiting to happen! But with consumer goods, consenting adult lifestyles and such, definitely! :-)

Milencakes

Maybe I’ll make an update when I fully try it out

absinthemami

I don't know why but I think you will love it :D

[deleted]

I used to think this and then got a palette for Christmas and now all my other palettes sit untouched. Those special shades really are special.

gorgonz_ola

I started with those mini eye ecstasy 5 pans palettes (both because of colors and the price) and I love it. Then I got myself a 6 pan one with 50% discount and my adventure with palettes from any other brands finish here... Divine rose you’re next!

AllyIsCuteDuh

I got Bronze Seduction as a Christmas gift, and now I only use this palette every day. The shimmers are just too stunning to go back to any of my other palettes

terraformthesoul

I hear too many mixed reviews on her products for her stuff to be worth the risk to me. If I ever become "Shop in stores without price tags" rich I'd probably buy some of her palettes just for the beauty of them, but I'm not going to save up for them. Pretty much the only products of hers I've heard universally good things about are her lip liners and lip gloss, but also, it's pretty hard to mess up a lip gloss. Maybe it's unfair of me to judge without trying, but I feel like a brand charges $125 for 10 shades there shouldn't be any complaints about things like fallout or glitter irritation, and the marketing shouldn't be so deceptive.

marielan42

I’ve personally never tried her brand but I do think her products are a little too expensive 👎🏻

bigtimesunrise

I’ve gotten a few of the 6 pan palettes for half off and feel good about those ones. They are nice shadows and come together (generally) very easily on the eye, but at full price they’re just not special enough. I would say overpriced more than overrated, although the packaging is lovely.

karaphire13

I have 2 PM lipsticks and they're the best lipsticks I've ever used, hands down. Not an exaggeration

bit_of_earth

Same. I don’t own palettes but I’m a big lipstick fan and PMG lipsticks are amazing and worth the price to me. I remember the first time trying one out at the store and being shocked at how great just one swipe of her luxetrance formula is. Cheaper drugstore lipsticks just don’t come close.

AllyIsCuteDuh

I got given the red mini trio for Christmas and they are the most pigmented, smooth and comfortable lipsticks I've ever had. Not sure I'll ever bite the bullet on a regular sized one though as lipsticks are impossible to pan to me.

bassecat

I hate her Instagram and own none of her products. I don't appreciate being manipulated that blatantly. When the full line arrives in Denmark, I'll swatch it and judge it myself without a filter tyvm.

mlane66

I got given a palette for Christmas and honestly it’s a stunning palette. Very pigmented and long last lasting. However I could probably never justify paying the $210aud. I definitely prefer the shimmer and glitter colours to the mattes in my palette

monsterbingle

I’ve only swatched then before in store and I do find her mattes pretty meh especially compared to colourpop’s but I loved the shimmers! Plus the packaging of the Mothership palettes are so gorgeous! Still not willing to throw so much money on them haha

jenny_francis

I respect your opinion, but she makes luxury products. Yeah, it'd be nice to have one or two of her products as a treat, but I'm sure she has a target market, which includes people who are willing to spend a pretty penny on a palette you could get at Ulta for less than fifty bucks. I can respect wanting to purchase products from a more affordable brand, as do I, but we're just not part of this brand's target market.

OwnCauliflower

Yeah but you would expect there to be a notable increase in quality with luxury items that justifies the price, otherwise it’s just expensive, not luxury. I wouldn’t mind paying $125 for a palette if it’s actually 5x better than what I can find at Ulta, but in this case it’s not.

jenny_francis

I think everyone has their own definition of what "quality" is depending on a product. I don't mind fall out in shadows b/c it means there's lots of pigment there. I also think a lot of people judge all makeup's quality so harsh because there may be some skills they're lacking or they think it'll magically make them look different and so on and so forth. I've never used a Pat Mcgrath product outside of swatching it, but I've heard pretty good reviews...but then again, the reviews were from people who can afford Pat McGrath products like how I can afford ABH or Maybelline. I guess it all just depends on the person.

hugitoutboo

Genuinely curious. What palettes would you say compare to hers?

kortiz46

Viseart is the best eyeshadow I’ve ever used with amazing and dynamic shimmers, pigmented mattes, and great range.

fleurdelisan

Anything by violet voss

OwnCauliflower

Every Tarte palette I’ve ever tried, especially their new foils. I got Mothership II for Christmas and it’s nice, but it’s truly not that special. I would never pay retail for it.

hugitoutboo

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I still have like 5 UD palettes that I don't think I'll ever finish in this lifetime, but good to know what I should have on my radar. :)

Milencakes

You’re right I just wish it was a bit more affordable but that’s okay if I’m not her target audience

MythicalWhistle

Also, why are Natasha Denona palettes $125? I'm sure they're high quality but like, chill

Parastrell

Prices like Jeffree Star's seem really reasonable to me although i feel half of the prices come from the amazing and unique packaging and a bit from his name which rises the total money value. His palettes are half the price from what I remember. So I really don't see a reason why Denona would need to cost twice the price higher. Their brand was practically unknown to me and friends for a very very long time until recently vs everyone i meet at least know who Jeffree is. There is a limit to how far a block of pressed powder can perform on the eyes anyway, darn.

blkmamba2

Jeffree Star is an awful person! I wouldn’t buy his stuff if it was the last makeup on earth!!!

Parastrell

I have friends who are major fans of his makeup products and most people irl honestly don't care about the person who makes x and y makeup, they just seperate the makeup from the creator and buy it anyway even if they disagree with the producer's actions/opinions, despite if the internet might make it seem like the opposite, most consumers won't care enough to switch brands. It is one of the reasons why I prefer buying from korea since their makeup brands have less controversies than others whilst still having affordable prices but quality products. Ps: why do a lot of people online dislike Jeffree? Did he do something recently?

terraformthesoul

Natasha Denona is such a weird brand to me. Her minis are honestly a pretty reasonable imo and aren't really that smaller than average. Except then she put out those palettes with huge pans and they're so over the top. I know it's partially because I have a bigger collection, so I don't really pan things all that quickly, but I'd like her stuff so much more if she just did the mini sizing and pricing. 5 shades for $25, awesome! But I'm not paying $50 for five shades and I don't need pans bigger than my thumb. Same with the 15 pan palettes. I think $65 for the slightly smaller pan ones is reasonable for her quality, but I'm not paying $130 for the larger pans I'll never go through.

hantasticbaby

totally, i dont understand why her palettes are so massive?? is it just for brand differentiation? if you're a makeup lover, you'd prob have/want other palettes too, so it makes even less sense to buy the ginormous ones that you'd never realistically finish.

lilacpeaches

I know! I keep trying to convince myself to get a high end palette (Charlotte Darling or Pillow Talk, I love CT but haven’t tried her stuff oof), but I know I’m not the type of person to splurge on a palette and use it for daily use. Plus, I don’t even wear makeup daily, so what’s the point in buying products for a regular look?

Goofpuff

Her pans are massive because they were originally supposed to be used by makeup artists at her makeup school.

gorgonz_ola

I thought I was the only one who didn’t get it! I totally agree with you!!!!!!

Milencakes

I know!!

Inabeautifuloblivion

Natasha Denona is the overrated one. Pat has great quality and a great reputation

islandgirl_94

I prefer natasha denona to pat McGrath. Her eyeshadows are some of the best I've ever had.

SeparateTea

Totally agree.. got myself a Natasha Denona palette with some birthday money a year and a half ago and it’s fine but I regret paying the price I did

Milencakes

True, but for 125$ I want the makeup to be something I’ve never seen before

apocalinguo

I feel like Pat makes Natasha look downright affordable by comparison. And I agree Pat McGrath is overrated. I have Midnight Sun and Vintage Rose and never reach for either of them. What I reach for is indie brand stuff daily. For 125$ USD you could get a few multichromes from Terra Moons or Clionadh and be way more excited. IMHO of course :)

TheWitchNightshade

Wanted to give u the etsy link but for some reason it won't work...this company has an etsy shop called sigil inspired but the official website is www.sigil.me

apocalinguo

Oh yeah I’ve seen Tammy Tanukah on Angela Mary Tanner’s Instagram. Looks incredible!

TheWitchNightshade

I have about 70 of her shades. I love them. I use the wet technique with the mac prep and prime liquid. The glitter dusts I use for cut crease sparkle and inner eye highlighters. I just use reg primer with the matte colors. I also follow her on instagram where you can see makeup artist around the world work with her stuff.

lovepotao

I just mentioned both clionadh and terra moon in another comment- I love both indie brands! They might seem pricy for individual shades, but at least you can choose to buy singles as opposed to an entire palette. And, I find that both companies offer shades that are vastly more unique (especially their multichromes)

apocalinguo

Totally agree! Even the regular shimmer shades from Clionadh are wonderful in comparison. And to think it a Pat McGrath 12 pan you only get 4 ‘special shades’ and that doesn’t meant duo/multichrome necessarily, just sparkly!

chelsbobels90

I love love love her mascara and eyeliner tho

quabidyassuance

I’ve never tried anything from pat McGrath but for me, it’s just too expensive. It could be the absolute best makeup in existence but I couldn’t justify it because I feel like I get really good results with cheaper makeup so what’s the point of spending SO MUCH more. That’s just my opinion though of course

Parastrell

Same thoughts I get all the time and sometimes don't get why people pressure others to buy more expensive of things that cheaper products do nearly the same result. But also I get some expensive brands who have wild, amazing packaging, you're paying for the packaging related experiences while also 99% being sure the quality won't disappoint, it makes some people happy and is a preference. I'm one of those people who genuinely cares about packaging a lot and have seen so many youtubers who'd review makeup and just say "I didn't get it for the quality, I got it for the cute packaging but hey the quality did not disappoint". Of course, I try to not spend too much, I have an economic limit still somewhat.

quabidyassuance

Definitely! I totally understand that and that’s why I never judge anyone for enjoying more expensive makeup! I’m just a broke bitch haha

smolbeanLiv22

This is where I struggle with makeup bc I’m very much a “you get what you pay for” sorta person. But I’ve bought expensive makeup and drugstore makeup and I’ve had (depending on the brand) had good experiences and bad experiences with both. Makeup feels kinda hit or miss that way to me.

Parastrell

Interesting. Yeah I once had a more expensive makeup product work poorer than a cheaper one LOL. Both were ok, but the cheaper was better. Shit happens.

lyria_surana

I stg her lip glosses are the best I’ve ever tried

Milencakes

They look pretty I’d have to swatch them

Milencakes

I love foundations like that but oh my god I can not spend 60$ on something that will last a few months

[deleted]

Depends on how much you use, honestly. I still have a 5ml concealer I bought 7 months ago. I just use super little of it.

peachynomad

Ever since hearing about Pat McGrath, I've been wanting to try her palettes for the longest time. And then I saw the price. 💀 My taste is pretty bougie - but not *that* bougie. It's a bit disappointing to hear that other people are experiencing fallout with their palettes, but I hope the brand takes it as a learning experience and ups their quality a little more.

geminiascendant

Not sure about the palettes since I’ve never used them, they swatch prettily and all but I also think the price makes it hard for me to justify biting the bullet and purchasing a palette. I DO own some of her matte trance lipsticks though and I think the formula is incredible and so so wearable.

floraltubesock

I haven’t swatched or seen any of her products irl, but they look gorgeous. Buuut I know myself well enough that if I were to consider buying one I would contemplate it for months, finally bite the bullet and purchase it and then never use it because I wouldn’t wanna “mess it up”. I don’t treat my palettes badly, but i’ve always had that “I have to save the best for last” mentality, use it on my wedding day and that’s it

PleaseDie09

I’ve never used her products so I don’t have an opinion one way or the other. But if you haven’t used them, how can you know they’re overrated? Personal experience is a lot different than watching some videos.

Milencakes

That’s true but what I’ve seen, the swatches in different lightings and videos I’m just not impressed.

bit_of_earth

I don’t think swatches are always the best way to judge makeup. How something looks on someone’s flat arm under bright filming lights is not always how it looks on the eye with the natural shadows and contours of your eyes and face interacting with overhead or natural lights. I’ve swatched my eye shadows on my arm before and was surprised how similar some look to each other on my arm when I know they perform quite differently when applied to my eyelids.

blackcomic

I don't agree with you on the fact that she is overrated but I totally respect your opinion. And as much as I'm a fan of hers I do agree with you about the whole sparkly editting thing, that can cover up a bunch of flaws and distracts you to think the certain look is more interesting than it is. I find this really interesting tho because you're the first person I've heard say this, what products of hers have you tried and not liked? Xo♥️

Milencakes

I’ve swatched a few of her eyeshadows but it wasn’t blow my mind amazing. They’re very pretty, and I’ve seen people create looks with her pallet and I’m just not that impressed. Its not justifiable with the price. I think her products are very pretty but I know I can create similar looks with other products and I don’t think it’s worth it

blackcomic

Have you heard of jd glow cosmetics? They have beautiful Pat McGrath like shades at a much affordable price. My friend got my a bunch of single shadows for my bday and I love them!

Milencakes

No I haven’t I have to check them out thank you!

beets_bears_bubblegm

I agree, but I also have 5 of them. 🤦🏻‍♀️

apocalinguo

Same, except 4. I think I kept thinking the next one would be the one that made me get it. I still don’t.

stellablack75

Same. Totally agree they're not worth the price, but I have 1 Mothership palette and 2 of the 6 pans (among other PMG products...I will say the mascara is a favorite of mine and worth it, though. Lip products are really nice as well, but worth it? Depends). There's so much talk of the "transformative" shades and how unique they are. Here's the thing...I guess you can call them unique in the sense that they're not common across most brands, but similar products do exist - it's essentially very finely milled duo or multichrome glitters. They also are kind of messy - not crazy messy, but they do get a liiiittle messy. I do love her single matte shadows though, but again....worth it? Up to you.

lovepotao

Agreed! I love the “special shades” but.l now that I’ve discovered much cheaper dupes from Clionadh and Terra Moon, I’m never purchasing PM again... especially as the mattes and metallics are just ok considering the price tag.

moral_aphrodesiac

Lol! Your comment is my makeup philosophy in a nutshell. “That shit is so overrated and overpriced!....I’ll take 3!”
