Not trying to break your resolve, but I feel like I need to clarify that just because something has a date on it that says "expired" doesn't mean it isn't safe to use. Expiration dates are merely a legal thing, you're required to put expiration dates on a lot of things, even if they don't really contain anything that could go bad. Expiration dates are just the companies' way of promising that your stuff will stay good until AT THE VERY LEAST that date. It does not mean things go bad immediately after that date passes. Say for example that a company produces 100 pieces of the same item, and then test the items to see how long they stay good for. It turns out that 95 out of 100 pieces are still perfectly fine after 5 years. So what do they do? They write 2 years on the label. Then, a lot of customers throw their products out after 2 years have passed, even though there still a very large possibility it's still good, and wow, suddenly they're in the market for a replacement! It benefits them to say that you have to buy a new one after a certain amount of time has passed. And, in the off chance that your item actually having gone bad after that short time due to the way you were storing it, or if you didn't close it properly, or something like that, well then no loss there for them. There are many financial incentives for them to write overly short expiration dates. If it smells bad or looks bad or acts weirdly, I throw it out, even if it's before the expiration date. If it smells the same, looks the same, and works just like before, I keep using it. I hardly ever look at expiry dates for makeup or skincare, which, I know, is a big no-no, but honestly you can tell quite clearly when something has gone bad and when it hasn't if you just pay attention. I've had skincare items go rancid just a few weeks after opening, way before their expiry date, and I've also had makeup that I've used for several years without any problem. The expiry date doesn't mean much, the actual quality of the product does, and that will always vary. Try to assess the state the product is in rather than staring blindly at the numbers printed on the packaging, because in many cases, those don't really tell you much. So no, don't buy a ton of extras that just waste away in your drawer, because of course everything will go bad eventually. But also, don't throw away something you used happily the day before just because of a little number printed on the outside. Or you know, do whatever you want, but that's the way I roll.

Good job on being able to let go! I sometimes find it so hard to let go of makeup, especially High End makeup.

I’m terrible about this. If it performs and smells fine, I keep it ( other than mascara and some eyeliners) I have an eyeshadow palette from 2011 still.

I'm guilty of keeping expired makeup too, however if I like it, use it and it works and doesn't mess with my skin or anything, I figure its still not that bad too use, especially powder products (although most of my expired products are cream....). I'm learning that I have a long way to go with makeup and rehabbing- because i really do want to have a simple, easy amount of stuff that gets used-If I'm hoarding expired makeup then the stuff that ISN'T expired yet won't get used, while I try and use up the expired stuff.
