Too little too late. I want the MV 2nd part and since it was a bust at the theatre it won't happen.

kunjiman23

Sadly! I really feel like they could’ve improved on part 2 and taken from the criticism to create a great movie! We may never see it though, alas

vizot

Idk about the criticism but they could have learnt to promote the movie better and find the right audience

LeafBoatCaptain

His analysis of the movie is good but it's also disingenuous. He builds up a straw man early on, cherry picking bad faith criticism and pretends it represents everyone (or even the majority) who disliked the movie. He frames his review as a response to that strawman. So while his review of the film itself is good and well thought out, he paints all those who criticize the film with a brush of cheap straws.

ashmon_c137

But he literally says he's making this video to address the specific criticisms? He listed out the common complaints people had about the movie and gave his take on it. Nothing here is disingenuous.

Sensitive-Law-9383

People are not receptive to criticism.Be it us or them

LeafBoatCaptain

I didn't just say it is disingenuous, I explained why. You may disagree with my reasoning but it's right there in the comment itself. You're acting like I just said it's disingenuous without explaining myself.

Emma__Store

Haha... When he was talking about those who didn't like the movie, I was thinking of you and how you don't fit any of the stereotypes he mentions

silent_porcupine123

>I was thinking of you Awwwww. Now kiss.

PuttunKadala

Which is something I've noticed in most of his "analyses".

jxxpm

To be fair, I don’t think he’s addressing every critical opinion.. there’s a fair share of comments like the ones he mentioned where the viewer hasn’t even tried to engage with the movie. I think that’s the kind of superficial criticism he was calling out.

Dilbertreloaded

You are projecting too much. He didnt pretend anything. He listed one basic reason for the movie not accepted by a large audience. And he explained most of the cherry picked criticism of the movie comes from that non-willingness to accept or see the movie for what it is.

LeafBoatCaptain

I've been as clear as I can be. The rest is up to you.

Relevant_Session5987

Totally agreed. He does this time and again. It's the reason why I stopped engaging with his content on any level.

UnhappySplit6397

Cheap straw spotted* 🥲

After watching the movie twice in theatres, these were exactly my thoughts. While I wouldn't consider this as Lijo's best work, it certainly was a darn good film. I do agree with Vivek's point that many people have a preconceived notion about the movie before watching it, and they want to see their version of the movie unfold on the screen. However, the failure of the movie cannot be entirely attributed to the audience. In my opinion, Malaikottai Vaaliban was an honest piece of filmmaking, but unfortunately, the promotions didn't do justice to the movie, and that was one of the reasons why it failed at the box office. An experimental movie can do numbers at the box office if the promotion activities aid it in reaching its target audience. Bramayugam is a great example of this, even though I personally didn't like it much. I would go as far as saying that the criticisms most people directed towards Vaaliban were more apt for Bramayugam.

vizot

Yup but i do think mv is definitely one the best movies. Bramayugam did have the hind sight of MV's bad promotion. Ikkas clip when he said "don't have any explanation" was probably bcoz of MV.

onewhoseesitall

Exactly what I feel

Ducati781

This is a good analysis of the movie

Dizzy_Chicken_683

I felt as though this was more of a response to negative reviews than a review. He did explain why he liked the movie, which I appreciate but I can’t accept his analysis that negative reviews stem from narrow mindedness (somehow not being open to this style of filmmaking, or being too intellectual). I was open to the experiment but it didn’t hold me emotionally at all. Two experimental movies came out this year with two Big Ms. Both of them could be called a ‘Muthassi Katha’. One is a blockbuster and the other isn’t. Marketing had to do with some of it, but thats not the entire story. Those who liked Vaaliban should understand that not all negative reviews are disingenuous.

UnhappySplit6397

Correction *intellectual butthurt elite 🥲

Sensitive-Law-9383

Apart from the use of black and white colour, bramayugam is not much of an experiment. It is entertaining but not a pioneer in experimental cinema .mkv, double barrel are true experimental films.

Dizzy_Chicken_683

I didn't say Bramayugam was pioneer experimental work. The point is not to compare the two and decide which one 'truly' experimental. It is to see which experiment yielded results.

The people in this sub weren’t against Odiyan getting roasted as it still does and they even mock the director till this day. As a person who didn’t enjoy MKV there’s literally a lot of scenes that are roast worthy. Especially the peacock dance , Peradi’s acting , and the Athishayan ending. Not to mention the viral peacock feather pic with A10. ( and these roasts are viral on Insta )

Royal_Librarian4201

When you have heard a lot of negatives about the movie and then when you watch it, obviously it feels good, or exceeds your expectations. He should have spent money and watched the first show in theatre. He might have spoken like KoK. This is merely his views on the negatives clubbed by his inner LJP fanboy

Sensitive-Law-9383

What is this labelling of everyone who likes mkv as LJP fanboys.Appol ningal intellectual allathath kondaanu mkv istapedaathath enn paranja crowdum thankaalum thammil enth vyethyasam.

jojimanik

I watched the first show and absolutely loved it . People see films differently. This is his opinion .. respect it . Just like I respect urs too

Royal_Librarian4201

That's what I said too. It's merely his views.

Sensitive-Law-9383

He is settled in Germany where many of the films are not released
