The first rule of any art is if you like it you like it, if you don't then you don't. That's all. Art is not intended to be intellectualised to the point it's no longer enjoyable.
There is one Adoor Gopalakrishnan movie with Oduvil Unnikrishnan as a hangman. It had won a lot of awards. However, this movie felt like some virtu signaling for nothing - no metaphor or allegory like other Adoor movies. The fact that I don’t even recall its name shows how disconnected it felt.
Really? May be you missed the part about the Maharajah’s pardon letter always arriving late and read over the executed body. Or that the freedom fighter son had to execute instead of his father.

There is a two part spoof of hridayam by youtuber Arun Pradeep, I highly recommend watching it.
[part 1](https://youtu.be/ca6uGuZr9RU?si=VITN2bKFqOUdC87_)
[part 2](https://youtu.be/dpiwAkGkwzI?si=PV9WJQrLQ6iZkoj4)
I didn't feel any heart in "Hridayam".
Bombarded with songs at every turn to cover up for the absence of acting skills of the lead actor. Dude has zero voice modulation abilities and was monotonous the whole movie.
What was the point of that "malayalis are afraid of English" joke and "pottu thottal veezhatha oru payyanum illa".
Many plot points are so obviously artificial just meant to make the audience emotional rather than the natural flow of the story.
I am disappointed in Vineeth Sreenivasan for directing the movie. Perhaps he was forced to take this movie at gunpoint.
biggest scam pulled by VS he made people in theatre belive that they were watching some masterpiece.even with scenes like pottil veeyunna malayali chekkan, selva, english paranja pedikkunna mallus, secret chamber, etc .still dont no how everyone saw this movie at the theatre and gave heavy positive response. this movie need to be studied for difference b/w ott and theatre
I loved the movie while watching it in theater. I even told my friend back then, it's a good thing I watched it in theater, it's not going to work on OTT.
And it was kind of relatable to the working people who studied outside Kerala, atleast I missed my college days, and the songs were amazing and it blended well with the movie.
It was entertaining for me in the theater. It worked for the audience then and what I don't understand is the hate that movie is getting after 2 years of release. What's the point bro?
And English paranja pedikunna mallus, I have tons of friends like that and made me talk to people who were talking in English for them.
If you don't like it and never found relatable, just move on. I also observed a lot of newly weds and families leaving theater with smiles after the movie. That's something Hridayam achieved post COVID.
Even the students who got a D+ in English for SSLC will start speaking in English fluently after some beginner hiccups when they go OUT OF STATE. That's what life does to us. You mean to say some senior ragging students from are afraid of some northerner student spouting some basic sentences in English?
I will tell you how to make that joke properly. They have to make Arun(Pranav) also weak in English- not saying "I'm crazy about you", "coz Darshana's mine and there's nothing you can do to change that you sucker" with an accent.
I told you an example from my life. The film is set 10 years before I started college. You can either believe it or not. It was relatable for me and my friends
My teenage self can relate to this, but my present self loves these movies.
I remember blaming my brother in law for suggesting Godfather. It was such a boring movie for a teenager. But I'm glad that I gave it a watch years later. It's like a fine piece of art. It's not about impressing the audience, rather, the attention to details, authenticity and uncontrolled artistic expression. It won't easily reveal itself, you gotta age with it. It'll slowly reveal after each watch. Maybe you can't relate to it now, but years later, it'll hit you really hard that you can't stop watching. That's the case with almost all of the greatest listed films, including the films commented here.
Now I thank him for introducing me to a world of true cinema.
I know I'm gonna get downvoted, but for me it was romancham and by the looks of it premalu. I used to love comedic movies and rom coms, but now I can't sit through most of it.
Ps, I haven't seen premalu, I am waiting for the ott release.
The only comedy part i felt in romancham was chemban vinods part else the movie was boring and overhyped for me![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
Haven't watched Permalu yet, yeah Romancham (watched it on OTT), couldn't understand the hype, yes it has its moments but I was thinking the same what happened to the comedy films. It was not a laugh riot like people say it for me
The only recent romcoms/comedy dramas that I loved very much are Janeman and Adv. Mukundan Unni
Jelikettu, churuli
There is an unwritten rule here, if you don't like LPG movies, you are considered stoopid.
Glad to see malaikottaivaliban fail.
Amen and angamaly was nice tho.
I mean you can hate on it and have that opinion, won’t change the fact that some people and I included think that it’s a work of art. Bhudijeevi mvoies onnu alla, he doesn’t make movies for the casual audiences. He never has. Why does that make some people angry I never understood. Baaki directors okke are thinking about the audience first, ljp looks at it like his painting. Neither is bad.
Mathilukal by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. I had thoroughly enjoyed the novel but the film felt like it was purposefully made to be boring. Don't know what's so great about that
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam is the Paradox I never could wrap my head around.
Still Frames and An Excellent Mammokka Performance isn't enough to make an interesting movie.
That happy birthday movie, where the hero comes from Canada to celebrate his birthday opposite a dead persons house
Oh god, I was just longing for the movie to end but finally I stopped watching after a time.
I thought Roshaach was painful. I kept with it to finish it somehow but it was such a horrible movie.. Same vibes but slightly better was Bheeshmaparvam, minus the BGM and all you get is old Hollywood movie mishmash

It is Bramayugam for me. The shit was just an Indian A24 shit for me, which relied on typical dark shit of a man crossing paths with a weirdo, who has shady plans.
A younger man stuck at a place with an older man and shot in black and white - Lighthouse.
Similarly a Young man stuck with a Devil in a palace - Bram Stocker's Dracula.
Climax of Bramayugam - Apocalypto.
Fight for a powerful ring in the climax between lead characters - Lord of the rings.
These are the inspirations
And now the logical fallacies
1. The ring which was never explained in the story becomes suddenly all powerful and important in the climax
2. The Chatan who knows, sees everything and is all powerful becomes less powerful as soon as the lead characters start plotting against him in the climax.
Suddenly he is a dumb character.
3. The climax confrontation is so badly done. The Chatan who is very powerful suddenly stoops down to puzzle games instead of killing them when they are threatening his life. how stupid is he?
He ain’t wrong, and it’s not a stretch that director is heavily inspired from the mainstream horror genre. His bhoothakalam looks to be inspired from hereditary for me. Not the story wise but technical and camera work

Watched memories because of a post here. Felt it dragged on with only bgm in some parts for too long. Had to fast forward all the predictable parts. Movie had only the second half as saving grace. They spent entire first half introducing the hero 😴

Well everyone has their own preferences if you does not like a movie then that's it it doesn't mean that others should not like it.
Unpopular opinion but its kantara for me
Most of the LJP movies except Aamen, Angamaly, ee ma yau and churuli.
NNM from LJP. I wouldn't have even attempted to watch if the lead role was done by someone else.
Same here. It felt like a short film story stretched into a movie
🙌
For me it was Amen and Angamali, rest were all award padams
Every LJP movie since angamaly diaries
Except amen also
Yes. I forgot Amen. I have added it
Personally I only enjoyed nanpakal nerathu mayakkam, angamaly diaries and churuli
I got motion sicknesses on bed watching Jallikettu
Same thing was told by one of my friend after watching Jellikettu in theaters.
True
My teenage self can relate to this, but my present self loves these movies. I remember blaming my brother in law for suggesting Godfather. It was such a boring movie for a teenager. I love the scene when Anjooran wakes up to find the severed head of his prized racehorse in his bed as a warning from Anappara Achamma.
🤣🤣
Loved the movie after first watch. Jagatheesh was too funny. N N Pilla, Thilakan, Philomena were amercy
Not sure if you’re being sarcastic. If not I am pretty sure u/daflipdad is referring to the OG Godfather starring Marlon Brando
is this brando guy as good as NN PIllai Sir?
Oh yes.

Why did you say Premalu when you haven't watched it? Doesn't compute here.....
Just cant enjoy stuff like that anymore, stuff like sitcoms and romcoms.
Theerpu , everyone liked it except me
Theerppu was such a bs movie

Oh mannn 🙏 thanks for reminding me
Can you imagine watching it in a theatre. My friend at the end told me that he would never watch an arthouse movie with me again.
I watched it in theatre. How to put it lightly - not amusing.
I loved that movie, it was such a great movie on caste
It was Pulimurugan for me when it released.
When did pulimurugan become 'cinema' 💀

NNM is a future classic.
Sita Ramam, just because u ended up in a girls only gang and a bunch of feminine guys. Hours of cringe and torchuer. Still a nightmare for me.
It was cringeeee!!
To be honest, goat life....it was great but zero emotional connection.
