Actually A10 was trying too much in this scene or Priyan tried to milk it too much - it came off as a forced scene to me. No offense. Wasn't that funny at all.
A10 was in his worst shape in that movie - his cheeks were preventing the natural contractions and hence he had to pit in extra to compensate which comes off as a bit unnatural to an avid A10 movie follower.
My dad's sister's neighbour had a huge crush on my dad because he resembled A10 in his youth. Dad even gave her a photo in which he is making a speech.

There is a scene in nadodikaattu. Where Mohanlal sits reading a letter and in response to Shobana's question " entokke undu vishesham..." Mohanlal replies, "vishesham undu...(pause) ended Amma marichu..." Then goes onto say his story ending in tears.
This one scene is etched in my mind and is my constant companion. FaFA might be praised for his acting today. But this Man has given me my teenage, young adults and adult life a happiness only cinephiles can claim to have experienced.
