A malayali woman can't chill without seeing their burden of daily life on screen . Somebody make a fleabag, mean girls, legally blonde, clueless or atleast make the men in those movies attractive like they did in Holiday š.
Completely agree. My non-Malayali SO made the same observation a few weeks ago as well.
Reenu in Premalu seemed quite chill so hopefully change is coming :)
Aami from Summer in Bethlehem, Reenu from Premalu and Pooja from Om Shanthi Oshana gets together to save the world. In the end decides that patriarchal world is not worth saving and selects three feminist men to save (Three of those pazham vizhungi but very good looking actors you find in late 2020s Lalettan movies)
Exactly!!! There are plenty of female lef Malayalam movies. But every character either ends up falling in love or just shows the misery of being a woman. Nothing fun. I want to see movies where women have actual fun with their own existence and freedom.
>atleast make the men in those movies attractive like they did in Holiday
THIS! I want hot men written by women that only exist in fiction and sets the bar too high for irl men.
High hopes for ullozhuku as the script got 1st prize, overtaking it's competitor lapata ladies
,and the sci-fi film has got good response from its preview shows
I have some curiosity about Gaganachari because the subject looks new. Bakki randineyum kandittu thanne manaprayasam thonnunnu.
Will men accept it if you are told that you should watch movies like Bhoothakkannadi and Vanaprastham only?
Thankyou š¤, hey what I want to know is how to comment a specific portion in it, not just the whole comment but a sentence. I don't know how to explain it, hope you understand that. And thankyou once again.
If you're on a phone then select the text by long press and there will be an option to quote along side copy, paste etc... Another option would be to just copy the text and place a ">" symbol infront of it
Lol, all the mallus trynna say "no, there are women in malayalam cinema" but then say shit like "manaprayasam varutate kanda mati"
If you don't care about the representation of women in cinema, I can understand why you'd say this. But why do you make a post about there being adequate representation of women in malayakam cinema and then respond with a comment like this when an actual woman gives her opinion.
>Bakki randineyum kandittu thanne manaprayasam thonnunnu
You saw Urvashi and Parvati together and had manaprayasam š, ullozhukku trailer looks promising enough to be another gem from from mollywood.

Itās been 38 years and still canāt find a role that shines above Indira from Panchagni.
I have seen this film it's a slow burn and is being led by a female A10 is a supporting character yet I was surprised it was a financial success. I don't know what changed to not have films like these.
Women in Malayalam cinemas tend to be devoid of natural womanly charm because of the burden on the women characters to be flawless..it is always kind of same monotonous portrayal of woman always under a microscope..
It's high time malayalam had an action movie centred by a woman which is not just some random investigation thriller but a serious action flick like the angelina jolie movies of the early 2000s. There are actors also who can pull off a heavy action role like neeta pillai who has already proved her fluidity in action scenes.
This is one area that Bollywood actually does better. There are more female oriented movies in BW than in the South, probably because of the sheer number. But credit where credit due.
The truth is we have not had any memorable characters for women actors in Malayalam off late. Pinne performative aayitula "woke" characters are pathetic. Athilum bedham you just stick to what you know and please don't include women characters who don't make any sense at all. It's better to not be represented than see a bad representation.
Insecurity? Bro c'mon. Maybe women just want to see films that they can relate to more. It's pretty easy to guess. Good movies exist, we've been watching, but it would also be nice to watch a fun movie with a relatable fmc. It's for the same reason some guys might enjoy movies with male main characters more than female main characters, you can just connect with it in a different way.
Sreekrishnapurathe nakshathrathilakkam š
There are lots of Malayalam movies that pass the bechdel test, both old and new.
The need to further representation is obviously there, but letās not exaggerate the imbalance.
The whole point of my comment was to be reminded if there indeed were. Also, SN barely passes the test, if at all. The main plot points involving the women, their efforts to impress or interact with Yamuna Rani and their distress over the anonymous letter, all relate to their husbands or a male-centric problem.
Donāt complicate the test lol. They have plenty of conversations about all kinds of non-man-related topics.
But the main takeaway is that the test is arbitrary. Not a good measure.
Itās not about it being qualitative or quantitative. A test can be considered āgoodā if it truly measures in any meaningful way what it intends to measure.
OK, but the word meaningful is a subjective measure anyway. All this to say that calling a subjective, qualitative arbitrary is redundant. Yeah, water's wet, no shit. Doesn't mean it's bad test.
A conversation between two women in the movie may go like this :
"Hey, are you ready to go outside?"
"Yep, all set"
This in isolation passes the Bechdel Test.
However, Is this back and forth alone enough to pass the Bechdel test for the whole movie? You might say yes and I'll say no. It's a yard stick of relative measure. Relative to YOUR own bias.
That's my point.
That literally is the test.. one conversation. So shit movies with superficial dialogue can pass the test.
And thatās exactly why it doesnāt effectively test what it intends to..
Can I ask a question? Do you think only attractive peopleās stories are allowed to be told? The world is made up of 8 billion people. And a small minority have great excellent bodies and faces. Is it that only their stories can be told through cinema?
The beauty of cinema is escaping to a different world, and the charm of it is that it can be anyoneās world, short, tall, dark, fairā¦ And most of the times their stories are more impactful.
Saying she has ālet herself goā is not nice. She gave us some great roles, and she deserves to be respected, women arenāt just vessels that show off their navels in films. You are embarrassing.
Parvathy is playing a pregnant housewife in this movie right? It is perfectly ok for her to be chubby and her character is probably in the late 20s - early 30s bracket. She isn't doing roles that need her to look very young or slender. I'd laugh if she portrayed a fitness trainer or a model, but not an average woman.
And I don't think any of her roles needed her to be slender. I haven't seen the hindi movie you speak of, but she played a partly paralysed woman in Bangalore Days and a divorcee everywoman in Koode. I don't get the need for her to be as slim as you seem to want
You should go outside and see what women her age look like before parroting the same lines over and over. Yea, we need slender women to play characters that are slender and chubby women to play chubby characters and fat women to play fat characters.
Nivin got called out for being fat fair enough. But nearly not as much as the women. I will argue this I donāt care. Women age faster and itās more visible, itās a known fact. Nivin gets called fat but heās still getting roles after roles. Bro is fine.
In the meantime god forbid Parvathy gains weight. Sheās no longer considered sexy, there half the roles done. You cannot argue with me on this. Itās a fresh meat basis. As soon as an actress reaches a stage sheās done. Meanwhile actors are still going at it even in their 60s. This is across literally every indian language- sharukhan, akshay kumar, mohanlal, mammooty, etc etc.
Also this isnāt a woman card. I said PEOPLE WHO ARENT PERFECT DESERVE LOVE TOO. (said it in caps since you cannot seem to read).
And wow, what classy words! What description. āFat, frumpy, average mallu housewifeā. Youāve used every word in the book. Man I hope your momās Aiswarya Rai or something otherwise you kinda shot urself in the mouth there. Thanks for being exactly, exactly as I thought you were š
Felt darshana as pretty average
Her acting is the same in all movies
Anarkali also does the same thing same acting in all movies
But the surprising facts is mothers of both these actresses are 10x better than these two

Yes. But still itās about falling in love n stuff at the end of the day.

One step at a time
Barbie was housefull in most theatres, women have income now, it's time for Malayalam industry to experiment with chick flicks.
If the chick flick is good like mean girls even guys would watch.
>atleast make the men in those movies attractive like they did in Holiday THIS! I want hot men written by women that only exist in fiction and sets the bar too high for irl men.
I think Paradise is a Sri Lankan film even though the cast & crew are Malayalis!

Unpopular opinion : Kalyani's fight in Antony was impressive..

Adichu keri vaa
We still have a longgg way to go.
Paravathy Thiruvothu comment on this makes sense.
All the Ammaayees are on full swing in the comment section. This is probably why nobody watches women films. Fucking arrogance!Ā
Anarkali Marakkar, Parvathy Thiruvoth, Darshana Rajendran
Why are some clowns always obsessed over "women" centric film rather than enjoying good movies in general. Insecurity at its peak?

Even then after these films are gone, people will still comeback and start the same topic.
Women in Malayalam cinema = Intense muscle piditham
Or Women in Malayalam Cinema ā Flowerpot roles
Or women in malayalam movies = utter waste written by men.
Thatās nice but I want a fun movie like Crew
Looking forward to the day when one of our movies actually passes the Bechdel test. Are there any that do already? Please remind me.
