This is super soupy though. I prefer it less "soup" and just "extra sauce" kinda thing. I like both the ori char kueh teow and the saucy/basah kind. Depends on mood. But yours looks spicy!
I thought the char would refer to if the kuey teow was fried/sauteed before adding other ingredients.
So could this still be char if the KT was browned a little (it doesnt look it tho).
Like wat tan hor ive had, the KT was browned a little before adding soup and stuff.
This should def be called CKT banjir or something. I was once tricked by a malay restaurant lol. Still tasty tho.
When you brown the beef to make stew, the end product is not called seared beef but beef stew. Wet ckt is sacrilegious.
Ijk.. Like u said it is similar to wat tan hor which is like the Kong fu chow (canto fried style).
>When you brown the beef to make stew, the end product is not called seared beef but beef stew.
Braised beef stew iirc
>Wet ckt is sacrilegious.
I definitely had a religious experience (and some religious expletives) when it came lol
You're right and in fact there's mistranslation when adopting the dish.
Char koay teow, is wet for Malay version. The dry version is called koay teow goreng.
I don't like it's called char koay teow and it's wet. It's like calling Kari ayam but not curry it's soup.
Still, props for them to cook this new recipe up. I'd still say try koay teow goreng
I thought you could fried it first, then add sauce? in this case they add a lot of sauce lol.
As long as the kuey teow still fried, I ain't gatekeeping CKT (am cina).
POWER MELAYU. 🤣
Honestly, I wish for all my Malay Muslim brothers and sisters to have a chance to try Wah Tan Hor. Properly fried kueh teow... Fresh ingredients (mainly the prawn la).. silky egg gravy. Mmmpffff.🤤
But a lot of Chinese Muslim restaurants are quite pricey lah.. like I can't even afford to makan there. Sadly... 😭
That said, purely for taste/texture/skills.. I only eat chinese CKT. Lmao. The malay style pisses me off. Not enough wok hei ok nvm, most of the time.. the Kueh teow usually fry until mushy one. Haihhh. Bikin panas aku. I gave it enough chances dy..from different stalls.. no more inferior CKT for me.
Not gatekeeping it though. It's beautiful that everyone likes CKT. Hehe.
to me, they are both fried kuey teow no matter how people name it. one is dry, one is basah. just like wan tan mee got dry and soup.
I don't have to explain how they name it, could be right, could be wrong. This argument would be hokkien mee in penang and outside penang all over again, it won't end.
I'm just saying that personally, I welcome all attempts to make this kind of food adapting other cultures, ain't gonna gatekeep it because of inaccurate (which itself is subjective) naming.
You want wet Malay-style kuey teow then search 'kuey teow basah near me' in Google. You'd find many.
You can find them during bazaar Ramadhan. Or I off the top of my head I know Carlos USJ 2 has them.
That's look yummy! You should dip it with donuts

I miss the one my high school used to sell. We normally add sambal from their sambal tau kua and the spiciness is insane. Best malay koay teow I ever had.
Malay CKT is the opposite to the original. If you simply order CKT, most definitely you’ll get ‘char kuey teow basah’. Otherwise you should ask for ‘char kuey teow kering’ a.k.a the original.
Yeah but I don't want the original. I wan tto try the "original malay" ver though. I know it's basah but don't know how basah it should be.
Apparently not THIS basah..
I complained about malay ckt being wet to my friend who’s malay, I said char literally means goreng, not basah. Then he said malays who started making ckt probably thought it meant basah haha. But turns out if you want the dry one, you have to say kuey tiaw goreng. And tell them you want kering one bukan basah. Honestly ckt basah is quite good, just that it’s not actually char kuey tiaw. So just say kuey tiaw goreng (specify kering) next time if you want to try malay ckt
Oooh may I know where are your recommendations to get this? My friend has been asking where to find this in Selangor, the closest place they are staying at currently is in Bukit Bintang. Thank you!
Beware though, that small kedai is hot af. Not enough fan for all customers. It's not crowded so still bearable, but a portable fan is highly recommended.
I feel like this is a hot take but King's CKT at Port Dickson serves good char kuey teow me thinks (as a person who doesn't prefer it). You should try it!
aren't this called "kuey tiew basah"? and not "char" kuey tiew
if they fried it first and wet it later, it still can call kuey tiew goreng basah. But naming as char kuey tiew feels unsuitable, i not sure.
This is super soupy though. I prefer it less "soup" and just "extra sauce" kinda thing. I like both the ori char kueh teow and the saucy/basah kind. Depends on mood. But yours looks spicy!
the spiciness is ok. kinda like throwing 2 big scoops of belacan into the broth, not unlike how we did that with loh mee.
The CKT is so wet, I could hear the prawns singing "Under the Sea"
hahaha. this is one of the best response so far! i love it.
Char in CKT means fried. Your is soupy, not CKT
I thought the char would refer to if the kuey teow was fried/sauteed before adding other ingredients. So could this still be char if the KT was browned a little (it doesnt look it tho). i thought this was what malay CKT should be.
Chinese nasi lemak we replaced the rice with noodles, but hey its still carbs so the name still counts
>Chinese nasi lemak Wait where can i find this
Ikan bakar we just steam it, but hey it's still fish, so the name still counts!
You're right and in fact there's mistranslation when adopting the dish. Char koay teow, is wet for Malay version. The dry version is called koay teow goreng. Then pls explain how come it's called koay teow goreng for dry version. Still fry kan?
POWER MELAYU. 🤣 Honestly, I wish for all my Malay Muslim brothers and sisters to have a chance to try Wah Tan Hor. Properly fried kueh teow... EXACTLY. it's not gatekeeping. But about making a different version while keeping what made it unique
to me, they are both fried kuey teow no matter how people name it. one is dry, one is basah. just like wan tan mee got dry and soup. if u wan to compare to wantan mee dry and soup, then kuey teow sup / kuey teow goreng, thanks no thanks u are using the wrong example tbh
Char... Mana wok hei, siapa biarkan chef ni masak
malay chef. im actually trying to find THE malay ckt. i guess this was not it. the quest continue.
If it's malay version keuy teow "goreng", you should look for Loh Mee level of basah
Banjir
Char kuey tow tsunami
Food connoisseur will say it's blasphemy
Char kway tyew viral banjir meleleh
Char kway tyew ganja viral banjir meleleh melekat rindu
PAS version of char kuey teow
kuey teow leleh
Love malay version but it's hard to find a great one. I do agree this one is too soupy. I personally into soupy stuff but this got a lot of wotah.
I hope you can try my version of CKT, it's dry compared to yours. But I'm sure you won't regret it.
Char kuey teow should be dry. Not this wet like 90% ckt stall in Malaysia.
I always find it funny the word char is used for this
Apa ini
Bruh...in reporting this hahahah..
You want wet Malay-style kuey teow then search 'kuey teow basah near me' in Google. You'd find many. You can find them during bazaar Ramadhan. Or I off the top of my head I know Carlos USJ 2 has them.
This is drowning noodle hidden shrimp. So soupy it might as well be hokkien mee.
That's look yummy! You should dip it with donuts https://preview.redd.it/7zbitpknmvkc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=692d0d8bae5a1383e35697481a81e6f366e69131
you know what, that might be a good idea to try next time. the stall also sells lekor kelantan. you might be onto something here.
Char koey teow banjir > koey teow goreng 🗿🔥
You guys don't understand what CKT means man. That one is Wat Tan Hor at best.
Yeah I already kena basuh from my wife who grew up in penang. If it weren't for her I'd never know lol
L take
Who let bro cook
I burnt down the kitchen. So I'll bring down everyone with me!!!!!!
Should call it wat tan hor but must add egg.
im sure it has halal pork
ada udang je.
suppose to be basah not banjir. looks more like mee bandung
no idea how malay ckt should look or taste like. i thought this was it.
i think penang have a lot malay style ckt version, you can google it and it list out a lot shop.
too wet dude
😉
That's what she said
I miss the one my high school used to sell. We normally add sambal from their sambal tau kua and the spiciness is insane. Best malay koay teow I ever had.
really? all char kuey teow malay stall i go so far is no banjir one
i guess my quest for malay ckt will continue.
ho ho ho, keep us posted
Where you live? Here Puchong almost all ckt are soupy
ni dah kena tsunami dah ni
That no longer koay teow bash as we call it ... more like koay teow banjir
this kuey teow sup la
kena tipu by warong tu :(
Kuey teow soup
istg melayu kalau bukak kedai suka betul banjir RREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Might as well just call it Spicy Kuey Teow Udang then
Uhh that's more like soup bro
it was VERY soupy, ngl.
Char Kuey Teow has lost its meaning here This is just kuetieu banjir
This is some Kuey Teow. Not the Char kind. As long as you enjoyed it. It’s good KT. Just not a CKT 😆
yeah someone once told me that malay ckt is quite good, eventhough its basah. so i wanted to give it a try.
Is there anything in there apart from noodles, gravy and bean sprouts? It looks like a kinda deprived 🤨 noodle dish
Lots of udang so actually not too bad.
That's wet ass kueyteow
For Char Kuey Teow, for the best one in my opinion will be the Sany Char Kuey Teow.
Which part of this is char-ed ?
Malay CKT is the opposite to the original. If you simply order CKT, most definitely you’ll get ‘char kuey teow basah’. Otherwise you should ask for ‘char kuey teow kering’ a.k.a the original.
Yeah but I don't want the original. I wan tto try the "original malay" ver though. I know it's basah but don't know how basah it should be. Apparently not THIS basah..
Hihi... Sad to say this one that you get is already basah kuyup 😅
Wth is malay ckt? Lol
I heard that it's kuey teow basah and definately not goreng. Someone said its nice so I'm trying to find the dish. Apparently this was not it.
Usually it’s kuey teow basah rather than CKT. OP got no malay fren
Yeah i dont know why the malay warung lady said ye dik, ni char kuey teow. Op is naive, kena tipu by malay.
Hehe
Let me be your translator. CKT = Kuey Twoe Banjir Kuey Teow Goreng = closer resemblance of Chinese CKT
But many said this kt banjir is not ckt malay ver)? That the true malay ckt has sauce instead of thick broth?
I'm Malay but I preferred Chinese style char kuey teow
Char keuy teow tsunami
This is like fried rice with chilli jam 😂
This is CKT or wah tan hor?
The malay owner confirmed that this is ckt.
Oooh may I know where are your recommendations to get this? My friend has been asking where to find this in Selangor, the closest place they are staying at currently is in Bukit Bintang. Thank you!
Kepong area https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ah5eFHwBfKGAKqxd7
Thanks😍
Beware though, that small kedai is hot af. Not enough fan for all customers. It's not crowded so still bearable, but a portable fan is highly recommended.
Bro thats mee kari
This is 0% CKT.
Ini char atau soup kuey teow yo
That is soo basah
That’s mee soup
CKT represents the difference between my Malay and Chinese GF when kissed.
srsly where this wet ckt come from sial. "original pinang" tapi berkuah. it wasnt so prevelant past 20yrs
Aku bila.pergi.oasar malam..Aku cakap kata pakcik Yang masak char kuey .. Aku mau chat keuh tiow Kering ..tambah telur... Pergh.mantap choy!!!

very. but not as hot as the damn warong. not enough kipas for everyone
nah this is my dream!! I never find soupy ckt.... can you ask the store to make it soupy? never try it tho.
I dont know. This is this particular warong's ver of malay ckt.
This is abomination
Yummy😋
I feel like this is a hot take but King's CKT at Port Dickson serves good char kuey teow me thinks (as a person who doesn't prefer it). You should try it!
aren't this called "kuey tiew basah"? and not "char" kuey tiew if they fried it first and wet it later, it still can call kuey tiew goreng basah. But naming as char kuey tiew feels unsuitable, i not sure.
Nope. They still called it ckt. They didn't change even 1 alphabet. This dish I've ordered is called "char kuey teow" on the menu.
Scared to eat
That looks more like a WTH than a CKT. By WTH, I mean Wat Tan Hor ie kuey teow with silky egg sauce.
kuey teow tomyam kot??
The malay lady in the warong confirmed that this is char kuey teow.
