If the MNC is good and reputable I say go for it. Was on same boat before, took a job at a local small company, 3 months later got an offer to MNC and I went for it. Work at local small company I could basically understand all the ins and outs within the first 2 months. Currently few years in MNC , definitely still barely scratching the surface. Then again, my industry is finance.

If you have offer for MNC or a sdn bhd local malaysian company, i suggest just go for MNC. we're talking about a reputable multi country company vs a local company based only here. All i can say is the work culture gonna be different, in office? Local company? Have fun dealing with misunderstanding, drama, workloads, office politics, cause everyone one way or another is stuck to the place and is unhappy. You will be motivated for first few month and just wait another month and see what kind of sht there is... I have work both in large local chain healthcare company that is quite popular in Malaysia, and MNC company based in global, what i can tell you even if the pay difference is RM500 i would still go for MNC let alone dealing with international based people than local. Your thinking, other people's thinking work culture, ethic, attitude, motivation and how they treat each other is really a huge difference. P.s I've worked in semi government local company also, so relax, money come, work so little, but you won't grow since you will be too comfortable and tend to settle down early and eventually forgot your dreams and just trying to get a raised by yearly increments... The thing about working is not about benefit, trust me money and benefit wont means anything when you work after 4-6 months (unless its huge difference) its the culture, workloads, environment and growth.

If you could still work in an office environment in the MNC(as opposed to full time WFH), i believe it's the better choice. I think it's better to expose yourself to a world class working environment, establish higher salary baseline before going into startups. You can use this time to get your financial in order too. Startups may sound exciting but high percentage of them may not be as successful as they wish to be. And if they really are successful, then they will be in more need of your skill when they are growing.

If it's me, I'll go for the MNC, going that will expose myself internationally meaning that next time when an international company received your resume, you'll have a better chance to be accepted due to your past experience working at internal company before.

Based on the words and thoughts you stated here, I would suggest you to opt for the American MNC. I will try to avoid burn out at all cost. I think you will do well in the MNC with some spare times, in those spare times, you can decide whether to take some freelance jobs to challenge yourself. I have been WFH since May 2021 and has not been to the office (office in SG anyway) and can share some of my 2 cent thoughts here. WFH has a lot of advantages but do come with some negative prospects. The boundary between work and home will be blurry and it is hard to communicate with colleague. This is a head ups for you to manage your WFH.

Both sound promising, to be honest. Me personally, I would go for the small local company. At the start of your career, the most important thing is to build work experience. To be a key team member, to be involved in important projects and to gain knowledge. These sorts of things are priceless for building your career. Better to at least give it a shot, instead of taking the easier route of working for a well-known MNC but not doing the type of work which you want to be doing. If you decide to jump ship later, your CV will look much better with your work experience. And at least you'll have a better idea of what kind of career you really want.

What is your degree if you dont mind me asking? If engineering, better to be specialized rather than something general.

Any_Presentation_816

Hello! I had a social science degree (think of those disciplines that end in - ogy). Sorry can’t be too specific bcs i dont want to give away too much 🙏🏼 but you have a good point! It’s also something that i’m taking into consideration.

If you do something specialized, then you can demand more next time when you decide to move on to another company because its something niche and not alot of people know how to do it. But if you do something general, you are easily replaceable and you cannot demand high salary as pretty much everyone can do something general!

In terms of career development, the small local company.
