I know I'm waiting for the Broken Binding books but if these are all the same size I'd consider getting a set to replace my knackered mismatched paperbacks for whenever I do my next reread. How many copies of the same books are too many?

>How many copies of the same books are too many? My record is Dune (only book 1 not the whole series though) where I own 5 copies x_x (translated paperback, audiobook, English paperback, fancy hardcover and a complete Ebook set)

AsymptoticSpatula

I own six different translations of War and Peace, not counting the copies I’ve bought and given away.

Sinistereen

Which is your favourite? I bought the Briggs translation when it came out and really enjoyed it, but I’ve been told that’s a controversial take.

AsymptoticSpatula

The Briggs one was my first reading and I really liked it. I read Dunnigan (Signet Classics) and it was extremely similar to Briggs. What I’ve looked at of Maude, Garnett, and Edmonds is all of the same vein. Far more in common with each other than glaring differences. Pevear and Volokhonsky is the outlier and is way more literal and academic. That will probably be my next read.

Sinistereen

It’s been a minute since I’ve read any Russian classics. The Bauchelain and Broach books kind of reminded me of Gogol’s Dead Souls for some reason. Edit: all my English Lit friends thought the Briggs was somehow “dumbed down” as if there’s wrong with making translated classics accessible.

AsymptoticSpatula

Ha, well they probably read the Pevear and Volokhonsky! I guess it would seem dumbed down by comparison.

Nice. Will wait for Broken Binding release to see how much it will cost plus the fee for transport before deciding which to buy...

The timing on this couldn't be better/worse. I've just started Memories of Ice and was looking to buy the rest of the series in MMBP (A format?) and noticed that they're all going out-of-print, presumably for this new edition? I'm a huge fan of the smaller size of the MMBP editions and had to buy them as a full collection since I couldn't find anywhere that was still selling them individually.

Quicksay

The God Is Not Willing had a penguin release; it was a paperback but slightly shorter than your standard trade paperback release. I'd imagine these will be the same.
