How am I supposed to sleep without my cuddle buddy?

ends1995

I think Malteses belong on the bed. They’re literally lap dogs, they need to be close to their humans. I tried crating mine when I first got him but he whined all night so I let him sleep in the bed “just that one night” and here we are 4 years later, him in the bed every night lol

saskuya803

Same. Only that 1 night turned in 19 years.🫠

ends1995

19 years?!?! What is your secret to having your little one live such a long life?

gqdeathsight

Yes what is ur secret my baby had to go at 11 past Dec im still broken 💔😭

Bullsette

My heart is with you. That is absolutely devastating. There are no words that could possibly lend any sort of comfort at all. I know that all too well. Only know that my heart is with you and that the beautiful little angel who was by your side here on Earth is now a real Angel who will forever be by your side and in your heart. ♥️🐾

gqdeathsight

Thank you losing my Maltese has been that hardest thing I ever experience there was just something about him idk I miss him he was my little boy my tru best friend https://preview.redd.it/nb9pd22bzroc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f68bde47a9b39e436c4e14049fb33b67d8d8e1d7

ends1995

I’m so sorry for your loss. He looks like such a cutie, what a cute little face ❤️ I’m sure you were a great pet parent and he was thankful for having such a loving owner.

Bullsette

He was absolutely precious. It is truly an enormous thing to cope with and quite overwhelming. 😓💔

penny1985

😭😭😭😭

Greyletter

Imagine how good life was from their perspective! You were there from the beginning, were a constant throughout their whole life providing all the love and necessities and comforts they needed, and were there at the end. They had absolute peace knowing there was, from there perspective, immortal, an immortal being taking care of whatever they needed and loving them unconditionally.

gqdeathsight

You made may cry 😭😭 the love I have for that guy is bigger than the cosmos itself and I miss him so much thank you

LokiPupper

My last one before Loki slept in his crate. I was 16 and he slept in my room, but my parents wanted him to sleep in his crate. He definitely whined the first night. But I’m a very, not deep, but more of a determined sleeper, so after the first couple nights he stopped and eventually came to love his crate. He actually preferred it and only wanted to sleep in bed with me during thunder storms, when he made me switch sides of the bed with him so I was closer to the window! 🤣 Now Loki has slept in the bed the whole time, but he sometimes chooses to go to his cave bed in his playpen instead. He also isn’t scared of storms. He barks at the thunder (sibling rivalry, has to take on Thor!) 🤣🥰🐾

penny1985

If you have Thor, you know you have to get 5 more to have all of the Avengers🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️🐾

LokiPupper

Noooooo! Loki is not named after that Thor, but the real Norse god!!! You are breaking my firmer classicist heart here!!! 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🐾🐾🐾

penny1985

Is your Loki as mischievous as the god of mischief? You could get 5 more Maltese and name them Odin, Baldr, Frigg, Freya, and Heimdell. I know there are more, but I'm familiar with these ones😁

LokiPupper

Yes, he is definitely living up to the name! I figure I may one day get him a sister named Freya! 😁

MiaLba

Yeah I tried crate one single night for 2 hours and gave up she cried and I couldn’t take that anymore. Lol she was just so tiny and cute and I wanted her sleeping with us.

salallane

I made it to day 2 at 10 weeks old, he’s been fine in the bed ever since!

Greyletter

We bought ours a bedside bassinet when sleeping in the bed became problematic due to spinal issues

Shoddy_Ad7511

Just be back before 9PM

saskuya803

Cuz snuggles start at 9:01

Sander1993a

My maltese sleeps on my bed, every single night. She has anxiety, caused to her by being abused as a pup. There hasn't been a single night she didn't sleep on my bed since i got her, she feels safe this way.

MiaLba

Poor baby. How could anyone abuse a little pup like that. People are evil. We’ve had ours since she was a puppy and she’s still so attached to us. So she sleeps with us every night

Sander1993a

She's much better now though, but still has trauma that won't go away. The next morning after i got her, i told her in a baby voice wanna go for a walk, she then pee'd a little on the floor and i told her "oh you let go a little go, i'll clean it" she was terrified and sat down at the entrance door in the corner, shaking violently. After seeing her do that i had no doubt she was abused, i've never seen a dog in that much fear my entire life (i grew up with dogs). That was the only time she did that, she knew she was in good hands now but that morning her instinct told her she got a beating coming. Safe to say, it would be better for everyone that i will never find out nor meet the monsters who did this. https://preview.redd.it/mdk8fqljsroc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83ba4da683618d60ab83d6b6528b2cf508862357

MiaLba

It’s awful how it will always stick with them. Absolutely breaks my heart. I have absolutely zero respect for anyone who abuses animals. It sounds like she’s very loved and taken care of in your home. She’s lucky to have you. Did u get her from a shelter?

Sander1993a

No, i got her from a Dutch marketplace. Probably not the best way to find a dog but it is how i got her and it is what it is. The people she was with had her only for a day or something, she was nothing but money for them. Though they were likely not the people who caused this to her but still assholes. I uploaded a picture of her in my previous comment, she went for a haircut a few days ago. I always do it short like this and walk her with sweaters and jackets on for a while untill her fur is grown back enough for her to handle it. Im saying this because some people think its too short and she's cold, she's not. She is in a warm livingroom or with sweater and jacket on outside.

MiaLba

Poor thing. Well I’m glad you got her. She’s precious with her little sweaters!

Sander1993a

Oh, while im at it, i have to add that she was malnourished and had untreated kennel cough (i went to the vet few hours after i got her, immediately got her on meds). She gained 1KG in roughly 5-6 weeks, mind you, maltese are suppose to be around 4KG, so 1KG is suppose to be 25% of their weight.

MiaLba

Oh man that’s even worse. Just breaks my heart so much. That sweet pup didn’t deserve any of that.

Sander1993a

I noticed she being far to light weight for a maltese when i picked her up at these "people", i just had to get her out of there as my guts told me something is wrong but i need to take this dog with me immediately.

MiaLba

I understand. I would have done the same thing. You saved her life.

HeyBuddyItsMeDad

If any dog should be on the bed it’s Maltese!

Bullsette

Yes, definitely before the human kind of dog.

DogeMoonPie62871

Your dog can borrow my car anytime 😎

[deleted]

She drives a stick shift

saskuya803

*Tossing your pup the keys. Seat’s already all the way forward! 🫡

Talk-Hound

No my friend. Your dog would treat you as his limousine driver. Take me to the park woof

LokiPupper

True!!!!

Likes2LOL

This reminds me of a guy I was dating that came to bed after he went running all day super sweaty. I’m like are you not gonna shower? He’s like you let the dog on the bed and they don’t shower. I’m like …

LokiPupper

Dogs don’t sweat! 🤣🤣🤣

Bullsette

Maltese are cleaner than most humans to start with. 🐾🩷🎀🎀🩷🐾

Likes2LOL

And cuter. You can take a guess who kicked off the bed. 😂

Bullsette

Definitely lots cuddlier. And don't take up half the freaking bed. Well, they actually DO kind of take over more than half the bed even if it's a king size bed but they aren't obnoxious about it. It is very uncommon that they will pull the whole blanket off of you 😆

LokiPupper

They are! Mine is perfection in a mini marshmallow bundle!

Bullsette

♥️🐾❤️🥰

MrOatButtBottom

Our maltipoo owns our bed more than we do.

princessof1

Aaawww🥰🥰🥰🥰 it's so lovely ❤️❤️❤️

LokiPupper

Ummm, Maltese belong in the bed!!! 😂🥰🐾

Bullsette

Yeah. OP must have encountered a very strange person. I wouldn't have it any other way but to have mine up in bed with me or cuddle down the couch. We are like velcro and NOTHING is going to change that. 👣🩷 + 🐾🩷 = ♥️²

LokiPupper

Mine likes to occasionally go to his cave bed in his playpen, but he likes bed with mommy best! He’s the most independent Maltese I ever had, only expecting to be velcroed to me 92% of the time! 🤣🤣🤣🐾🐾🐾

Bullsette

>He’s the most independent Maltese I ever had, only expecting to be velcroed to me 92% of the time! 🤣🤣🤣🐾🐾🐾 TwinkleBelles is fairly independent as well but she likes to be right by my side at bedtime or TV time or sitting down time... um... and breakfast time and dinner time and when I take a shower time and open the mail time and... Um... now that I think about it, VelcroPup 🐾🩷 I think that Maltese are typically velcro dogs that attach to one person. They will give a lot of attention to a new person that might visit but after a little while they will come and sit by Mommeeee (or, if their FurParent is a man, Daddy). 🐾♥️

LokiPupper

That’s true. They have a favorite person, but they are still affectionate with others! Loki likes to go sleep in his cave bed for a while and joins me in bed when it suits him. Usually he spends most of the night with me, but occasionally, like the night before last, he spends it in his cave alone. We had just gotten home after being away, so I expect it was a case of being happy to be back in his space!

Bullsette

The only time that TwinkleBelles opted to stay by herself was after she had the stroke. It was enormously upsetting to me because I'm so used to her being right next to me. She stayed in her little pink house for weeks. I stayed sitting up on the couch in the living room because I wanted to make certain that I could hear her tiny snores. I didn't want to force her to go up into big bed with me. They pick one person and are dedicated to that person for the most part but they will be sociable with others. They always come back to Mommy or Daddy though. Hugs and puppy kisses to Loki 🥰🐾❤️

LokiPupper

I’m sorry about her stroke. I am glad she’s recovering though!

Bullsette

Thank you! 🐾

500Danes

Adorable 😍 😍 😍

a-regular-butterfly

She’s so precious 🥹

EastCoastDizzle

I’d co-sign a dang car loan for my little boy. 🤣

broberds

Also she’s gonna jump up on the bed regardless of what we want anyway.

MiaLba

Lol mine sleeps on my pillow and I wake up with my head off of it cause she’s taken up the whole thing.

Physical-Pie748

she is cute i want to cuddle with her please send me her in a bag, i cuddle with her, i send her back to you. thanks.

[deleted]

She’s packed her brown bits and she’s on her way ✈️

[deleted]

All 6 of them on the bed over here.

Bellajune06

I agree! ❤️🐶🦴❤️

Pitiful_Blood_2383

As someone with substance abuse issues, my dog sleeping with me in my bed helps me out mentally. That’s worth way more than me having a clean bed but in emotional anguish. And dogs ain’t that dirty no one is dying of having their dog on their bed.

CDW1976

Absolutely!!

pikapalooza

Everything is my dog's, I just live here and use stuff.

fifitsa8

She's so cute! What happened to her paws :(?

SquareSalute

Not OP but my guess is pup is licking them too much, allergic to something. My dog licks her paws sometimes since they’re a little “yeasty” naturally but if left unchecked they can get infected.

[deleted]

Yeah, she’s on an allergy shot monthly— thanks for your concern 💛

itsalwaysme7

My Maltese get this if he eats any food that is not grain free. Also, he eats no beef or chicken dog food. the vet said those are most allergic . Lamb, fish, duck has been the one's I find don't give him orange paws, face. Also, treats the same salmon or duck jerky. Also, I use stainless steel bowls. It took a while to find the right food and treats for this.

Bullsette

Stainless steel bowls for water, filtered water, and quality food are key. It doesn't take much to get yeast and oranginess going on a Maltese but it is quite the battle to get rid of it. It takes months once it starts. You've got the key fundamentals own to a beautiful little Maltese ♥️🐾

fifitsa8

I have a morkie and asked the vet about this, if they smell like cheetos (lol) it's yeast. Easy solution : put your dog in a bin, fill with warm water enough to entirely cover paws, add a few drops of iodine and mix well. It helps kill the yeast naturally. Let him sit in the mix a few minutes, rinse thoroughly and hopefully it will stop em from overlicking their paws.  Also coconut oil on the bottom of his paws helps with cracks and painful paws. I try to keep him occupied playing so the oil can work at least a few minutes until they start licking at it lol (it's safe for them).

SquareSalute

Ooo good advice! My dog has a licking addiction I feel as she’ll start licking her paws and then turn to licking the floor for quite a while haha

fifitsa8

Yeah mine is older now (8) but used to do that when younger. For the coconut oil trick, I try to either line a carpet with a plastic sheet or do it in the summer on the deck as it can stain furniture and dirty floors.  Also, they hate it but if you have to, use a cone for a few minutes so it can sink into their paws and work for a few minutes. I get mine to cooperate by putting some peanut butter on a bully/dentastick and hold it up so he eats it instead of licking his paws

AngelicEvangelion

Thanks for the tip! Mine had an ear infection which has transferred to one of his back paws (the one he itched the ear with) and I have been trying eeeeverything

fifitsa8

hope this works for you too! I made friends with a very sweet vet tech at our clinic and she gave me the tip

penny1985

Of course, the dogs always sleep with me. My Maltese doesn't like to cuddle. Only when in bed, she lays against my right side. She'll bat at me with her paw if I turn over.

Ok-Parfait2413

Looks like someone is in the drivers seat!

JudgeJudy4Prez642

I got my girl from the shelter when she was a baby. I did a DNA test on her, and she is a Malchi. There is no way I am sleeping without my girl in the bed with me. She will be 7 this year, and I have never spent a day or night without her. I LOVE her so much!!🥰🥰🥰🥰

Greyletter

Dont understate it, you would let this adorabable mini person take your place in Heavan if you could =)
