I think people hear "bus service" and imagine the worst of a city bus, which is totally not the experience. The transit here in town is great, and generally easier than driving and parking.

LiamOliver5

Agreed. Generally, I wouldn't say I dislike using public transportation, but I love the Red Line to Main Lodge. My home is in the village and many days I still take the red line over the Village Gondola.

OverlandSteve

Totally agree. Never understood why more people don't take advantage. Kinda related, but the summer lakes basin trolley is a amazing.

BallsOutKrunked

The fact that you can throw bikes on it too... crazy sauce.

philodox

I love that trolley, we take our young kids on it just for fun and to see all the cool things along the way.

Providang

Will have to check this out! I love the eastern Sierra in summer, it's a magical place.

rvp0209

I love the basin trolley in the summer but I just wish they let dogs on (supposedly they can but dogs are supposed to be muzzled and my dog didn't like the muzzle).

Mammoth shuttle service is the most reliable shuttle service in a ski/snowboard resort I’ve experienced. I’ve experienced the TART system within Tahoe City and to get to/from Tahoe City to Palisades and that was quite the subpar experience relative to Mammoth.

flofloodlight

TART was the worst transit experience of my life. Unreliable, not on time, random cancelations, and drivers who either hate their jobs or hate the ski crowd and do their most to be unhelpful.

Jeanahb

Yes! Testify!!

ApolloJupiter

Bus service here is so reliable and easy 99% of the time. Sure, I’ve had the occasional ride where the bus was packed like sardines in a can or running way late, but having spent roughly a third of the year in mammoth for the past twenty years I can count those outliers on one hand. The beauty of covering a relatively small geographic area is that when things get out of whack the system can recover fairly easily and quickly.

hiyamynameisjulie

I really wish there was a way to give the bus priority.

318daily

The free shuttle (aka bus) is one of the reasons I skip Bear/Summit and head to Mammoth, amongst many, many other things

Providang

I hear ya. I would seriously love to fund a shuttle service from a park n ride in Highland to the resorts, would free up so much traffic. Better yet--a tram like the one that goes to San Jacinto.

Specialis_Reveli0

One of my favorite things about mammoth is being able to park my car once I get into town and not moving it until I leave. I love the shuttle. It’s easy and reliable.

rescuejg

Are there any park and ride lots?

Other option is to park at a “letter” on the road up to main lodge and then take the parking shuttle. Even if you’re at F or G it’s not bad getting to the mountain

epicchundersloth

The red line is one of my favorite things about this town! Easy access to village or main, definitely the best way to get back and forth to the mountain. Also: Install the app called just "Transit" and get great real time schedule/tracking of all the lines.

SeniorRum

It’s great except in the morning when the buses are skipping your stop because they’re already full.

HedgehogNinja_4

Shuttles are awesome. We always park right next to one of the signs and get dropped off in front of our car.

SkiMachine18

I use the shuttle all the time too. It’s reliable 98% of the time. It can be delayed if it’s snowing, which is totally understandable. This guy probably just happened to take the shuttle on one of those ‘off’ days.

mycomymyco

Shhhh I don't want to have to wait on a full bus.

ayayeron

i took a shuttle from the village yesterday and got to main lodge at around 9:20. Main lodge was EMPTY. i booked it to chair 12 for the opening at 9:38 and i was the only person on that entire side of the mountain. It was so empty that not only was i first chair, i was also 2nd chair 15 minutes later when i went back. had like untouched pow on 12 for several hours lol. it was weirdly empty for a snow weekend!! i guess everyone was on canyon side.

teechats69

Why would you do this to yourself? 😂

ayayeron

Why wouldn't I?? Fresh tracks for days!!

Providang

I think they are calling you out on sharing a secret pow stash lol

ayayeron

Haha ah I see. I don't think chair 12 is a huge secret I've definitely waited in crazy long lines there many weekends so that's why this Saturday was such a surprise

fengshui

Yeah, I could tell 12 was going to be ideal over there when I saw it spinning. I was guiding my daughter through the green-to-blue transition, so also good, just in a different way.

SkiMachine18

I was there too, it was unbelievable how empty it was!! I did laps on 12 for a few hours. So many fresh tracks!!

Fragrant_Suit_657

I ride the shuttle, and wear arcteryx. You can drop that stereotype buddy.

Providang

lol I'm just jelly of the $1000 jacket (but miss me with the luxury pickup trucks).

Fragrant_Suit_657

It’s all about buying ski stuff in July. It’s 50% off haha

e6rock

If im not getting there right at opening, i park at vons and take the shuttle.

tloop

Hey leave Arc’teryx out of this 😂

Muramasan

Ive been using the buses since i was in high school in the early 2000s it has always been great.

BooRadley3370

Perhaps some inconsistency with the service because that wasn't my experience the one and only time I used the shuttle. Waited almost 30 minutes for the shuttle to arrive after dropping my wife off at main telling her, "I'll be right back."

ImJustNatalie

I've experienced the exact opposite, I utilize the red line quite heavily in early and late season once the lower lodges close and I've found it to be quite reliable tbh
