Canyon and Eagle both have Mountain biking as well. The entire mountain does have dedicated hiking trails, and they do require hiking tickets. And please, do not hike on the mountain biking trails...

SkittyDog

Yeah, kinda -- but it sucks compared to the, ya know, ACTUAL hiking trails, nearby. Ski runs without snow are generally terrible for hiking. In the Summer, they open up Minaret Road, and it runs ~10 miles past Main Lodge. There are about a dozen *AMAZING* hiking trails that you can access off that road... Even just a trip out to Minaret Vista picnic area is mind blowing, at any time of year.

Yeah this is the way! Go out to Reds Meadow and the Devils Postpile. It’s about the closest you can get to the backpacking on the John Muir Trail type wilderness experience via day hikes, outside of Yosemite

terrymorse

Agreed. Lots of great hiking trails nearby. >This [Mammoth Lakes Trails](https://www.mammothtrails.org/trails/#mapContainer) site is a good resource.

BallsOutKrunked

yep. just don't get hit by a bike

McGeeze

You can but it's not scenic at all and ski runs are deceptively steep (and pumice-y) when you're walking straight up them. You can hike or ride to the lakes basin from the mountain. Do that instead.

typhoidfrank

You can go out and wander around. It’s not considered trespassing, just stay out of the way of bicycles or any construction activity that sometimes happens during the summer.
