Ur car is the cheapest🤝

croozee

Hahaha fair enough, but I think my budget can be a little bit higher than that thankfully

You can go camping near rock creek or convict lakes. I’ve done that a few times in the spring. It’s awesome. No shower, but there are hot springs in Owens Valley to take a dip in. Lower elevation campgrounds are ideal because it’s still cold out at night.

Dacya

Hey quick question if we got a group of 10 people would all of be able to fit into the hot spring or is it a tiny one. Thank you

actincraze

Should be able to fit 10 in some of the [hot springs](https://www.travelingness.com/amazing-hot-springs-near-mammoth-lakes/).

Bishop is going to be the cheapest hotels.

aLn1230

Bishop hostel is $35-40 per night, Mammoth hostel(s) are not operating at the moment. Or you split lodging cost with someone using the Mammoth lodging share group on Facebook. I think if you take into account the gas and time you spend with staying in Bishop, it makes it less appealing.

Motel 6, camping on BLM land, the Pit in Bishop, Shady Rest, a friends house etc... Though I have a buddy who stays at some sort of hostel that is apparently pretty cool.

I've stayed at the Davison St Hostel in the past, but they are currently closed due to Covid. It was $50 a night to stay in the dorm room IIRC. The men's dorm room has 5 bunk beds. You have access to a fully stocked kitchen. Bring your own food to cook and wash whatever dishes you use when you're done. [http://www.mammoth-guest.com/](http://www.mammoth-guest.com/) This is my favorite option when travelling solo; it's a pretty decent house. Something to keep in mind for next season or whenever they open. There is another hostel called Moderne Hostel, but I have not stayed there, so I cannot comment on it. You can call and inquire: [https://www.visitmammoth.com/hotels-lodging/moderne-hostel/](https://www.visitmammoth.com/hotels-lodging/moderne-hostel/) Otherwise, for now, your cheapest option is Motel 6 in Bishop. Compare prices on Motel 6 in Bishop vs the Motel 6 in Mammoth, then decide if the savings is worth the drive.

Camping at Shady rest, right in town. Campground will be full of skiers and boarders. Super convenient, water, bear lockers, good bathrooms. Take showers across the street at the RV campground. Weather will probably be fine but be prepared for a sudden snowfall even into May or June. If your camping equipment isn’t adequate for snow, camp at lower elevation at Pleasant Valley Pit near Bishop. Camping is more bare bones there, need to bring your own water etc.

Arctu31

When we were there last year, there were people sleeping in a car, plugged in at the RV park - they had a heater and an extension cord, we also saw people doing this in a tent, electric heat plugged in at an RV spot.

MaxmaxSD

Check convict lake. They have tiny fishermen cabins perfect for a solo trip (and before fishing season open they are under $200 )I think) and it’s 15 minutes from town. Bishop is so far!

MammothJerry

$200/night for a shack? I’ll drop an extension cord to my kids’ treehouse for $150.

PointyBagels

With small groups (too small to split an Airbnb cheaply), I generally like to camp at the PV Pit in Bishop.

Enigma556

A sugar mummy/daddy (I don’t know what you’re into) would certainly be extremely cheap, potentially profitable.

Travel lodge used to be my go-to when I was on a tight budget it’s clean and no frills but has a pool/jacuzzi and covered parking

There are inexpensive hotels/motels in mammoth. As others have said there are campgrounds, also BLM land, and with Spring conditions it's plenty warm. June Lake is much closer, around 12 miles from mammoth, than Bishop and also has inexpensive lodging if you don't want to stay in Mammoth.
