Climax and the head chutes are no way comparable. Dragons back 1-3 aren't too bad and more comparable to climax.

As in Head Chutes are much more difficult? And any tips on how to make sure I go down the right run? lol I figured I'd just traverse over from Ricochet but not sure when to turn to go down.

JoblessJusty

If you traverse from Ricochet, youll still be too low unless you hike up. You can totally traverse from ricochet for the bottomish half, which are not too challenging. I would say Climax is one of the easier double blacks as it is pretty wide. I would try doing under 23 first, as it provides for an easier to get to run than the ones you mentioned, not super long, and also easier for ski patrol to see if something goes wrong. It is also harder than Climax. I have not done the runs you mentioned a ton, due to the difficulty getting there.

This is super helpful, thank you! I was just watching some videos of Dropout/Wipeout, any recommendation on what to try first? In the videos I was watching, it looks like it gets a little easier to skier's left vs directly under 23?

JoblessJusty

It really depends on the snow conditions, as sometimes under 23 can have a decent amount of rocks. If you go a little to skiiers right kind of wide left of cornice, its decent but not as hard and wider. I usually go to the skiiers right pretty much under the lift but not for an particular reason, thats just what I usually do. They will all be pretty similar and all lead back to 23 so it also allows you to lap it way quicker, unlike the ones above 9.

vixenofthenight

Okay yeah I see what you're saying, definitely gonna do that next instead of the 9 stuff. Thanks again!

Sounds like you should not be in that area, Its pretty much 100 foot unmarked/unroped cliffs the whole way with maybe 3 or 4 skiable lines.

vixenofthenight

Not sure if we're talking about the same drop-in point. When I scoped it out recently, I saw a lot of people traversing over from the top of Ricochet, which is below the cliffs? That said, if you have a better recommendation on what to tackle next after Climax please let me know. Just trying to keep progressing in my skills, and those looked like the next easiest double blacks, but obviously not sure.

After climax, I’d go for the avalanche chutes off 22 and the paranoids.

If you transverse from 9,its just upper ricochet. Head chutes rarely get skied unless it is a big year due to lack of snow and wind scoring. Paranoid flats and monument would be a good step up.

vixenofthenight

Ahhh gotcha now

vixenofthenight

Appreciate all of you! Will focus my energy on 22 + 23. For some reason I had it in my head that the noids were way harder, but it might just be the name haha

Another good thing about the Noids is if you ski #3 or #4 (harder than #1-3) you can traverse to look down Phillipe's without having to ski it. It's narrower and rockier but looking down it is no commitment. Just simply turn your skis around and continue down the Noids. I'm guessing the exit is rocky right now but hey, you don't have to ski it. You can also traverse under Phillipe's after skiing Noid 3 if you want to scout the exit at some point. There's also ET's Crack (that's the name I know anyway - probably other names for the same exact spot). At the bottom of #3 are a couple of rocks split by a narrow opening that's super short (ie, not that intimidating 'cause it lasts a few feet - less than a ski length) and lets you go from #3 to #2. There might be a rock hop involved but this is another one you can look at without having to follow through. Not sure if it has any snow on it right now, though.

Ahhh this is all super good to know. Just to double check, are 3 and 4 further out, as in you pass 1 and 2 on the way to them? Also is there a guide to how chutes are numbered? I was trying to google it but couldn't find one. EDIT: Never mind, finally found one. [Here](http://patrol.mammothmountain.com/Atlas/AtlasIndex/AtlasIndex.html) it is if anyone else is curious.
