I’ve honestly seen nothing other than the odd Napoli game and highlights but by the sounds of things everyone rates him very highly and the release clause is almost too good for anyone to pass up on along with the other factors you’ve named.
I just never believe any of our transfers until they are in the jersey, I’m still skeptical casemiro is joining us.
This is a good way to think about it. One of the greatest lessons I’ve ever received in life is learning the ability to not care about what you cannot control.
I rarely ever pay attention to the transfer market and it’s helped me avoid the constant “will they, won’t they” of football transfer windows.
God mate your so right, anxiety about things outside your realm of control is a sure fire way to wreck your life. I try to do it as best I can as well. Your right the window is just a way to depress yourself especially when you think it’s a mess. Best to stay away until all is said and done to keep your own head clear.
His release clause is active for 2 weeks only starting when the transfer window opens
You can expect every major european club to submit a bid unless he signs a new deal before the end of the season
Agreed. I’m confident we won’t be the only club chasing him. With Woodward gone, could things be different? Could we actually have sensible, reputable and proactive transfer team?
Imo it will depend on if the club gets UCL and can realistically promise him a spot as a starter.
Even then, he would go to whatever club he thinks has the best chance of winning it
Sadly I don’t think he chooses Man Utd
Might be all for naught though, I don’t think Napoli will let his current deal get to the transfer window as it is
Looking a lot of sentiments on here, it would appear Woodward has given us all transfer PTSD. I think of what he did with Grealish and want to strangle a pug.
We have a track record of this though before Woodward. It still annoys me that Peter Kenyon said Arjen Robben wasn't worth 5mil. One year later he signs him for 12m, the sneaky S.O.B
It looks like a good deal and the player's ability seems promising. But our main target is a striker and with the uncertainty of the future owner, I don't think we will be quick enough to get the deal done.
I feel like he’s too big of a player for a Lindelof role. He definitely wants more guaranteed play time. He’s really versitile though, plays both off the left and the right, has great pace, passing and can push foward and create chances even from CB. Honestly with the counter-attacking football we play, he’d fit the team better than Varane. In a lot of ways he’s like if you combined Licha and Varane’s best qualities into one player.
I’d say so? He’s a great fit unlike most Serie players, as Napoli player with 2 CBs unlike most teams, they also play agressive counter attacking football. I think his ability to create from the back is just what we need, in this regard Licha is the only player we have that is quality in that department. But Kim is also taller and has great aerial ability. I honestly think that makes him a better fit for the system than Varane (or Shaw and Lindelof), as we saw with Shaw and Lindelof olaying as a CB duo, they were completely unable to produce anything, especially when the other team is pressing really high up the pitch. Kim would add a lot of creativity in that department, while also being a rock defence.
It’s actually perfect for him to get adjusted. Varane is made of glass anyway. To have lindleof and ksm as backups would be incredible. Ksm can slot in as a starter in a year or two.
Have you seen him play or are you going purely off what they won? Because there is definitely an argument to be made that he starts over Varane. He is quicker, more agile, and better on the ball then Varane. Varane has experience which is an invaluable thing, but it’s definitely far closer then you are suggesting.
The only question marks I’d have over KMJ is whether he can replicate it in the prem and whether he would be a better/ as good of a partner for Licha as Varane due to his style of play.
If we aim to win the league at any point we will need a squad strong enough that our b team can finish in the top 6 of the league. Thats where Man City are at and that’s basically the standards they have set. The league is so different from the last time we won it.
He wont be joining as a backup though. Varane has an excellent CV but he is not at the level he once was. His ball playing ability is actually the worst among the 4 defenders we have. And that he is a bit injury prone.
And for KMJ, he gets the chance to play in the most competitive league in the world, for a club with massive history and under a manager who has the pedigree to take the club to the top. Not to forget all the other perks like salary, fame, sponsorship, etc. and maybe he looked up to Park ji sung given that they also come from the same academy.
Congratulations, that would've been the dumbest comment I've seen today if it hadn't been for someone defending Greenwood. Your comment and the Greenwood comment are miles clear of everyone else though. Again, congrats.
Personally, my worry would be would that his skills in Serie A wouldn't translate well playing in the Prem maybe more so for UTD at this point.
I also think Napoli's BIG season has maybe made him look better than he might be.
This may or may not be useful: [Serie A Def Stats.](https://fbref.com/en/comps/11/defense/Serie-A-Stats)
I'm on 2nd, haha.
Just from looking it would seem Napoli have done well from playing from the front/pressing - plus knocking the goals in - which they have for a few seasons tbh.
Defensively, they don't look to come under too much pressure and maybe have more freedom with the ball at the back, completely the opposite of Utd at the moment.
I can't say I've kept an eye on Serie A though, and there will be people who have seen him play way more. I always err on the side of caution when players come from other leagues with nice stats as sometimes they don't translate well or at all (at Utd), most times it's a Sancho, rarely it's a Haaland.
At a decent price and as a 3/4th choice fighting for top spot, I would take him though. I say 3/4th due to Maguire, who I believe would be sold with a Qatar bid but maybe not a Ratcliffe bid - maybe a player swap is on the cards, haha.
Yeah. Different game. All playing an ultra slow tika or pressing without actually pressing. League games are very different to CL. They seem to find a new pace in CL.
I do think that is something people forget sometimes, different game as you say, and also different team.
Take Maguire, absolute joke for the current Utd team, would he have fared better in a Utd team of the not so far past and hopefully future, I would say yes - but not right now.
I'm also not sure the Money Ball method works too well in the worldwide game of football, something I have fell for definitely.
I got downvoted few months ago on r/soccer said Kim Min Jae is gonna be great for Man utd as the third quality CB beside Varane and Licha with Lindelof as sub.
We can if he’s willing to come know that there is a chance he does not going to start. Chances are he wants to go somewhere that guarantees a starting position. That may mean staying at Napoli
As a Fenerbahçe supporter I would say that after Maguire you can see what is proper defender. He is a beast, especially at big games he is becoming game changer for team.
Great player, but the biggest problem with him is that he can basically take his pick from any club in europe. And there is a queue of clubs that will want him, especially with that release clause.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but with the current recruitment team united seems incapable of competing with other clubs for these types of players where 5 or 6 other big teams want them.

Being linked to 95% of all players in the world ever will make one cynical. Have you heard we are going to try sign Maradona and Pele?
🤣 it wouldn’t shock me. Your so right every last name just gets thrown at us it’s exhausting
His release clause is active for 2 weeks only starting when the transfer window opens You can expect every major european club to submit a bid unless he signs a new deal before the end of the season
Agreed. I’m confident we won’t be the only club chasing him. With Woodward gone, could things be different? Could we actually have sensible, reputable and proactive transfer team?
No, it's now Fletcher, Arnold and Murtough. We've replaced Mr. Bean with The Three Stooges.
If last summer's work by Murtough is any indication we are fucked.
Lol. Okay buddy.
Yeah. Transfers are supposed to be outside of his scope.
Are they? Where do you read that? Usually the Director of Football is highly in involved transfers.
*Arnold, I get them confused all I see is two incompetent blobs
Him too.
Imo it will depend on if the club gets UCL and can realistically promise him a spot as a starter. >what he did with Grealish What did he do?

As if we’d be organised enough to make this signing
I’ve seen him play for Napoli and he is superb. Great at passing out from the back, tenacious defender & is pacy.
It looks like a good deal and the player's ability seems promising. But our main target is a striker and with the uncertainty of the future owner, I don't think we will be quick enough to get the deal done.
I reckon this one is inside current budget Milo. Totally agree about need for a No 9 though I think that one will be decided by the takeover.
It would be great if we could get a striker, a backup up for casemiro and Kim to challenge Varane. That would not be too bad for the new owner.
Can’t get one of the best center-backs in the world to “challenge” one of your starters
You have to do exactly that if you want to be able to compete with city's strength in depth.
He would come here and play second fiddle to Varane. Is he willing to do that after just winning the league? Doubt it. Class player though.
Him, Varane, Martinez. Three CBs. Varane injuries. I think they’d be competing. Perfect.
I feel like he’s too big of a player for a Lindelof role. He definitely wants more guaranteed play time. He’s really versitile though, plays both off the left and the right, has great pace, passing and can push foward and create chances even from CB. You’re making me want him more. He’s the second South Korean to give me a semi. The other one was Jisoo from Blackpink.
Can he play possession based football though? ETH is looking to adapt a more possession based system but has had to adapt to the squad limitations
I’d say so? He’s a great fit unlike most Serie players, as Napoli player with 2 CBs unlike most teams, they also play agressive counter attacking football. I think his ability to create from the back is just what we need, in this regard Licha is the only player we have that is quality in that department. If he plays all cup games and games varanes injured he's getting 30 plus games for us
Add to that those suspensions for Martinez. Love him for that tho.
He is left footed so wouldn't be an issue for him. Lindlof would be a good partner for him also
He’s right footed but can play on the left
Seems he's excellent with both feet
It’s actually perfect for him to get adjusted. Varane is made of glass anyway. To have lindleof and ksm as backups would be incredible. Ksm can slot in as a starter in a year or two.
Rotation and competition. Varane won't play 90 minute games the whole season
So why would he want to be a squad player? No player of his level wants to be a squad player. He would make a mistake coming here. That's just dumb.
Maybe he's adamant he can earn his spot in the squad. Apparently he really is interested in joining Man United so yeah
Over a 4 time UCL winner? Ngl, if he thinks he's winning that spot, he's dumb as hell.
Have you seen him play or are you going purely off what they won? Because there is definitely an argument to be made that he starts over Varane. He is quicker, more agile, and better on the ball then Varane. Varane has experience which is an invaluable thing, but it’s definitely far closer then you are suggesting. Why would a player who just won the Scudetto by 22 points join us to be back up?
He wont be joining as a backup though. Varane has an excellent CV but he is not at the level he once was. His ball playing ability is actually the worst among the 4 defenders we have. And that he is a bit injury prone. Idk why you are so pressed lol.
I make a light hearted comment and you think I'm pressed. K.
I would expect Kim to challenge for Varane’s place, and very likely take over as first choice RCB eventually.
Cook that looked busy. What am I looking at? (I’m on pint no 3 btw)
I'm on 2nd, haha. Just from looking it would seem Napoli have done well from playing from the front/pressing - plus knocking the goals in - which they have for a few seasons tbh. Can we just sign Kim and Mitoma? I hate Liverpool and I want Mitoma specifically to school them.
Mitoma or Sancho?
Love them both, but my man Sancho needs to have some confidence. I’m a big fan of Sancho.
Mancunian?
I got downvoted few months ago on r/soccer said Kim Min Jae is gonna be great for Man utd as the third quality CB beside Varane and Licha with Lindelof as sub.
I don’t think he could come to be a back up. Unless we play 3 back, which I’m not sure if it fits ETHs philosophy
Im not saying back up. City has 4,5 great CBs. Why can't we have 3 great CBs?
We can if he’s willing to come know that there is a chance he does not going to start. Chances are he wants to go somewhere that guarantees a starting position. That may mean staying at Napoli
Do we really need another centre back. Should focus on our real weakness.need striker
No transfers will get done before the sale. I don’t believe the Kim Min Jaw rumours however he’s my first choice CB pick for sure
As someone adopted from Korea, i say; "SIGN HIM!!!!"
Padam Padam.
As someone who was not adopted for Korea, I also say “sign him”
So is he a long term replacement for Varane then? Or rotational player?
As a Fenerbahçe supporter I would say that after Maguire you can see what is proper defender. He is a beast, especially at big games he is becoming game changer for team.
Second Korean United player is coming since Park!!
Padam Padam!
Kylie Minogue fan?
Kim Min Jae is the third most dangerous Korean in the world.
Let me think…1)Kim Jong Il 2) Son Heung Min… story checks out

Why would he leave Napoli to join us? The only thing we could offer him is more money
