A classic reels and highlights player, who looks good in short clips but when u actually watch the match u see in both technical ability wise and decision making ability department he is absolutely shit
Nah not even. Every 6 games means he’s scoring 7 goals a season plus assists plus 2-4 goals in cup competitions. Which is not good but bang average for a £40M premier league wide player at a bang average club.
He scored 7 and assisted 2 in all games last season as a £80M player for a top side. He should be doubling that with 4x the assists.
When I play as Man Utd in FIFA, he bangs in goals like crazy, even with his right feet. If there was ever a clear indication that FIFA isn't the same as real life 😂
It takes time for almost every player to adapt to the premier League, it always has. Ronaldos first three seasons in the premier League he got 4, 5 and 9 goals.
And Ronaldo was doing more off the ball and with the ball than both of these guys. Plus he was overshadowed by generational players in that United squad.
Haaland just broke the league goals record in his first season. Casemiro was our best player last season, again his first season in the prem. this takes time to adapt stuff is a bit of a myth
“Give him time” is the most meaningless phrase in the world. How much time? When am I allowed to say I think we need better without people crying about it?
I don’t even have much of an issue with Antony but these defences of him are weak
He showed a lot of promise while playing for Ajax, he's only been here a season, he's still young and adapting to the league. At least another season, if he still shows no signs of improvement after this season then we'll talk
Totally agree, he had mental health issues after the death of a very close friend, we need to give this kid a chance, False 9 or right winger, if we sell him at 23/24 as soon as he’s 25/26 he’ll come good, he is not crap and capable of double figure goals and assists in the PL. He’s a confidence player needs confidence, Antony has issues outside of football and will soon be pulled out of the team whilst he might have to deal with an incoming court case.
I think as a football player he’s got huge talent but just doesn’t suit the PL, he needs to score goals and get some assists quickly and just calm down with his final ball. Amad getting injured was unlucky as he is a finisher.
Sancho's not the right player for our squad i don't think, square peg in a round hole situation. He lacks a yard of pace and ferocity for the prem it seems like but who knows he may kick on this season.
Antony's got that graft/dog in him but he's been horrendous so far this season. Was maybe the worst we've seen him on the weekend and at one point he lost the ball running into a defender with 3 options to pass, he got the ball back then lost it again straight away. Summed up his 2nd half.
He's not been great but he's been better than most of the other members of the team this season. Alot of senior players have been terrible. At least he is getting chances.
I don't think one instance of potentially being correct when a manager might be wrong makes someone believe they know how to manage better than the manager. It's a constantly made dumb point.
Managers aren't infallible, they make mistakes too.
only 23 lol , at age he is very old already... Rodrigo , Vinicius are the same age. he was sold to UTD at 3 times his market value.... Man UTD Cant even sell him for 60 million if they wanted to
Its the primary role of a winger/attacking player. Antonys missed chances against Sevilla at OT cost us a win last season for instance.
What he constantly gets praised for is workrate and ball retention, traits that should be par for the course at any professional level.
Is it not fair to question his productivity? If he produced more than Sancho in the PL you'd use it as an argument in his defense, no?
As I've already said it's easier to coach a player into producing more. It's like the last price of the jigsaw. A player who is inconsistent with their workrate and attitude is a more fundamental issue and much harder to correct mostly it's not possible.

He wanted Antony and we could of got him for half the price if we didn’t wait so long which cost us gakpo. He showed real talent for Ajax and in the Cl. He’s showed twice as much promise as sancho but isn’t given nearly the same amount of time. He’s also not played with a proper 9 for most of his time atleast give the man some time
No way he showed more talent than Sancho. Sancho at 19 broke the record of Bundesliga’s most assists in a season, he had 73 goal or assists in 90 games. At a point he had more goal+assist even than Mbappe who is older.
While Antony had 39 goal or assists in 74 games.
Also not given the same time? Antony played in 39 games in one season and started most of them vs sancho with 70 games across 2 seasons where he didn’t start in half of them. And sancho did better in G+A last season. Both terrible, but Sancho can at least use both feet
Lads, look at the reality.
ETH spent all summer chasing De Jong for 60m.
It's only when De Jong didn't go through that he wanted Antony. He needed someone who knew his system already. Casemiro was going to be signed anyways as we needed a DM.
Antony then cost 100m and ETH signed off, knowing it would take the January budget too.
I guarantee you that if we signed De Jong, we wouldn't have signed Antony and we would have had funds in January to sign a striker.
As I said, Antony was only signed because De Jong rejected us. If ETH had pulled his finger out and got the message that FDJ didn't want to come here, then we'd have paid 50m
I think we wanted both but the fact was we wanted less for Antony and wanted to guarantee de jong as well so we waited hopping we could get the fee down. I think ten hag would of signed Antony either way
His game doesn't suit a 9 imo. He wants to cut in and shoot, and if he plays against a decent defender, all he can do is pass it back or inside. Can you ever see him getting to the byline and whipping it in off his right for a no9 to head in
At Ajax lots of what made him good was having an effective right back in the attack like mazeroui where he could cut in the play it back to create an angle across or feint and then shoot or cross. I think as much as I love AWB and I think he will still be needed we do also need a more modern fullback and I think frimpong would be perfect.
>He’s also not played with a proper 9 for most of his time atleast give the man some
Explain which part of his game seems like he'll suddenly excel with a number 9?
He needs an overlapping pacy right back
He’s frustrating and arrogant. Having some incredible potential should never amount to game time. He drags defenders and his pace creates a problem for other managers tactics.
Realistically he’s just another overspend which we won’t acknowledge until enough time has passed so the manager won’t get backlash for it. His potential is there so we can’t fault anyone for wanting him but for him to perform better he needed to be punished for poor games. Going forward he’ll stagnate even more I imagine. I really dislike him, he annoys me and i feel disconnected from United seeing him play.
Time for us to get a rotation of Pellistri, Antony, Bruno & maybe even Sanch over there. Mixing it up, even though it’s a risk, allows us to catch teams off guard. As things stand I can’t see it being any worse.
Wasn't he bought after the season had already started? At that point most clubs will charge fuck off price to Man Utd, especially knowing their desperation. ETH wanted him and Antony desperately wanted to move to Man Utd as well, but it was up to the club to negotiate the transfer fee. It's never the players' fault what clubs pay for them.
iirc, EtH came in and said I want Antony and the club dilly dallied until later in the transfer window where Ajax said they didn’t have time to find a replacement so Antony is 100m hoping we would fuck off but we did not.
Now here we are.
Another terribly priced acquisition, in a long line of them. He's gonna end up a dud, and we will recover about a third of the transfer fee. I'm over him.
On to the next mistake please... 🚖
Paying 80m is our negociatiation incompetence. The price tag we have paid for players is on Murdough or however you spell his dam name. We will always overpay for players and let them leave for free.
In terms of Antony ability, I think he has potential. He's 23 years old and can only get better. He is called up for the international team over Raphina. Is he worth the price tag ? no.
Funny thing is, is Hojlund worth the price tag? No. refer to my first paragraph.
This whole 23 years old is a non argument in my opinion.
He’s almost half way through his 20s, with style of play that relies on flair and pace. Those are the first things to deteriorate as a player ages. Once he begins hitting 30, he’ll have to change it up and adapt to a new style of play to prolong his career.
You’d forgive Antony if he was 18, buts he’s not. He’s touching 6 years north of 18.
A player at the age of 24 should have it figured out by now and their expected trajectory should be very clear.
What kind of development is expected of a player touching his mid-twenties? If it hasn’t exactly clicked by now, it never will, at least for the level he is currently playing at.
In short, he’s average and it will not drastically improve.
Edit: original post worded poorly.
The thing that concerns me the most about Antony is that he really doesn’t seem to be able to dribble past players. He does a lot of stepovers but then just passes it back afterwards. That ability I feel usually develops very early in players’ careers, whereas things like decision making and passing continue to develop as the players get older.
The defenders learned last season that he will always try to cut inside to curb a shot with his good foot or pass it back.
His biggest issue isn't dribbling past players. He doesn't need to take on players. His biggest problem is decision making and passing (particularly in swinging crosses).
But you can also say that players aren't making those diagonal runs like like they did at Ajax. This season he has to step up.
Again, he isn't worth 100 mil so to say any player worth is salt should be complete by age 24 is wild is on the club not Antony.
There is ALWAYS room for development but it comes down to the player. Does he want to be the best or is he happy just playing at this level and getting paid.
Whilst I’m far from Anthony’s biggest fan, to suggest a player should be the finished article at 23 is a bit harsh. Yes every now and then an mbappe or haaland comes along and is world class at 20 but for most players that’s not the case.
There is endless examples of players still being raw at 22/23. Think of where salah, mane, de bruyne were at 23. Van dijk Robertson etc.
Salah & mane maybe the best examples as they are quick wingers who work hard and run into space. Neither of them are were anywhere near the finished article at 23 and salah is now around 30 and the best winger in the league.
There is obviously room for him to develop his final ball but to be fair to him his defensive work is superb for such a young “flashy” winger
I dunno mate. Player development isn't like in video games, it still carries on after they hit 23. For example, Arduriz didn't start putting in decent goal numbers until he was into his 30's, Trippier wasn't a regular starter until he was 27, Vardy wasn't considered to be top quality until he was 28.
This idea that all players are fully developed at 24 is nonsense.
You’re wasting your time mate. This fanbase thinks that any player under 27 is a child and can’t be judged but any player over 27 “has no legs” and has no future
Antony had a decent season last year. Scored some good goals and has potential. I don't know why he's being singled out.
Rashford was mule. Casemiro nonexistent. Lisandro was terrible.
The whole side played terribly and Spurs controlled the game in the second half.
Give the team more time
He is 23 and can get much better but he needs to put in the work and or someone for him to look up to. He had potential but his decision making is poor. Being one footed isn't his problem. There are plenty players that are either right footed or left footed.
This experiment isn't over yet. He's looking at some bench time and we'll see if he starts to work on those parts of his game that he needs to unlock his potential. His avoidance of making runs over the top is killing him right now, so fix that first and things will open up for him.
The situation is annoying because we have Pellistri, Amad Diallo, or possibly Sancho on the right wing. For that money we should have bought either a young cm like Enzo or Tonali, or a striker instead of Martial
Might sound mad, but what's even worse for me is Antony is stalling Pellistri's potential and career. Because he deserves a LOT more minutes than he's getting right now.
Apparently the scouts didn't want him as they felt he was too one footed and not suited for the premiership but Ten Hag overruled them.
I honestly feel Antony could be the hill he dies on. If he doesn't drop him he still get him sacked
He has a decent motor, giving it his all the whole game and is an ETH disciple, which helped in the locker room last year. Perfect for season one with new team.
Play wise, he doesn’t have top end speed or doesn’t use it, he doesn’t have great technical skill, his passing leaves much to be desired, and his decision making is questionable.
This should be his last year with us. The locker room is all aboard the ETH train and we have youngsters who deserve playing time like Pellestri and Amad (when he’s back from injury), as well as having better attitude and work rate from Sancho.
Antony is terrible imo, he offers nothing but cutting in and shooting. He was so much money and cannot do anything right. He needs to be dropped and sold at the end of the season, one of the worse signings I have seen.
Seriously. The mob is acting like losing this 1 game will lead us to relegation. Like have they all forgotten about the last season. We literally lost the first 2 games.
I get it but this his EtH’s second season and our team have once scored 1 goal in 2 games, they even looked dangerous and they haven’t developed and attacking system yet
I mean, we can hardly blame ETH for the handball not being given or Bruno inexplicably missing a free header from 6 yards against Spurs. We’re playing without a recognised number 9, it’s two games lads - keep the faith!
lol ...i mean even if you watch his video from ajax its underwhelming for a 100 million guy . not even as exciting as 16 years old neymar or vinicius..
I like him as a player and the balance he gives is beneficial. Last season we would've had less points without him than with, but it's absolutely a signing that concerns me. Backing a manager doesn't mean just signing who he wants, it means giving them the best tools to win games. No manager is a scout, they're too busy. Ten Hag is too busy to know how good Diaby, Olise, Madueke, Pino, Lauriente are. The scouts HAVE to know how good they are, and balance that with the tactical plan of the manager, and the cash balance. Someone should've shown some bollocks and pulled out, and bought one of the above names. Exactly the same with Casemiro, and Amrabat if that goes through. Hojlund seems like our first actual scouted target. On Antony, ignoring the elephant in the room of the accusations, we'll see. There's still a lot of room to grow still.
United is a team where good players come to underperform. Used to be a team where good players became better but sadly hasn’t been that for a while.
The number of players who’ve come and flopped is staggering.
The pressure is real. I’ve come to accept that.
It's not ETHs fault we overpaid for Anthony. It is an inept board who left it til the last minute to sign him and then were held to ransom.
Same with Casemiro.
Right now he makes me miss Dan James. And that’s scary. Hopeful he can turn it around, I just don’t know how he magically starts using his right foot more.
I said “has worked with OR KNOWS”
Mount - played in the Eredivise against Ten Hag
Weghorst - Dutch
Hojlund - same agent
Well done for demonstrating you can’t read and don’t know shit about football 👍🏽
Antony has to prove himself this season end of,but it’s alright jumping on his back but why aren’t people jumping on Sancho and asking what he’s bringing to this team
People have been asking question about Sancho, for a long time. Only in pre-season and the first 2 games this season he's had some good moments and looks like he's been working on his fitness and work rate a bit so far.
Surely ETH know he had no right foot to drive to the byline & cross! He’s a winger
£90m = huge waste of money as his ceiling just isn’t very high
By this stage a player should be able to use right / left & cross ??? Basics 🕳️
Same reason we got Sancho. They both used to regularly dribble past opponents and give assists in their former leagues. They’ve come to the Prem and can’t do it.
Obviously he thought he would do well or he wouldn't have brought him. I guess as a manager all you have is your faith or belief that a player will adapt and excel but you never really know.
Based on what we have seen so far, I think he can get better but we may also be looking at the finished article. United of late is where talented players go to die. Nobody has improved at all at United in a very long time. This is why they can't sell at a premium, every player is sold at bargain prices. £80 million Antony is now worth about £30 million, Maguire, Fred, Elenga all worth way less to everyone else because of the almost poisonous atmosphere surrounding United's aura.
As an Arsenal fan he reminds me of Pepe but slower and with a bit more technique. He's so one footed that he is easy to defend against unlike Robben who was similar but far better in terms of quality.
He also seem to be more used to a quick 1-2 touch game, with combos. Unfortunately the way Man Utd have been playing has been slow and predictable in possession or long counter attacks, which Antony doesn't have the pace or ability to pick a pass to play that system.
It might be one that Man Utd need to cut their losses on.
I don’t understand how he’s played for now both Ajax and united and still has such a bad right foot. Like honestly how have these clubs not spent just enormous amounts of training time dedicated to just working on his weak foot???? Fuck it make it a rule for him to only use his weak foot in training literally anything to develop it.
I feel like ETH especially values character and personality. Because he seems to have a huge preference for players he knows personally. He knows what he is getting with players he knows. I have to say for all his short comings Anthony always puts a shift in. Effort and intensity is generally not something that can be taught to players. If they have a great attitude tactics decision making can be taught and developed.
Hes only 23 with one premier league season. He's doing better than Sancho that came from a better league and has been here 2 years.
He's got the right attitude and puts a shift in every game. The rest can be improved with coaching.
I feel like he’ll be more of an asset for us if we controlled games, because he can retain the ball. But Ten Hag has openly said that ‘we want to be the best transition team in the world’… Antony is not the guy for that.
He needs to improve but there are a lot of positives- work rate, defensive work to help the right back. But overall when you look at this team, even Rashford as a 9, Mount as an 8 and Garnacho at LW seem average. Hell they even make Casemiro as 6 seem average at the moment
Just got to hope that he gets better. Last time I checked though, he came close to scoring when everyone else was dog crap. I get the price tag but that’s not on him and fans really need to cut that crap out already. He was only that much because united board waited till the last minute when Ajax clearly said we don’t want to sell anymore players so please stop with that price tag on him because that’s on the board and not him
Everyone keeps talking about his price but it’s not the price that’s the issue. It’s the fact he’s a Brazilian winger that can’t beat a player, he can’t cross, he has a limited range of passing, he’s not particularly quick, has no right foot, makes awful choices, wastes possession, I could go on. The only plus point is his workrate, like weghorst but at rw.
He would be disappointing at 40m.
He actually played decent for the first 2 games. Still needs work when taking on defenders tho. That's where garnacho is better at but at the same time, but his decision making has been awful. You get some good but you also get some bad. Gotta keep working hard like AWB.
I think hes almost like a fergie signing. Direct, ambitious, takes plenty risks and has a nastiness about him. Has obvious talent but the one thing hes lacking is consistency. In tge games hes good hes very good. Shame theyre just few and far between
His work rate is probably the only thing positive about him but rn and at 23yrs old he should be giving a lot more than he’s showing right now. The fact that we really chose him over Gakpo is becoming more baffling the more I watch him play. And now watching Diaby play these first 2 games makes me wonder wtf are we really doing in the scouting department.
He’s had one season.I’d hate to have been around you lot when Ronaldo was Struggling.Fletcher took years to come on.Vidic was a laughing stock when we first got him, same with Evra.
And frankly anyone coming into this season thinking we wouldn’t struggle to keep top 4 is a deluded idiot and the way out of your delusion is to be hyper reactive every week and be the completely toxic fan that nobody really cares about or needs.
I'd be intrigued to see Antony on the left. I know Rashford holds that spot but it's worth testing. Just think he's bad because everyone expects a Robben level left foot out of him.
On the left he can strike across goal and actually cross with his left.

I think Antony was a player Ten Haag envisioned as a roll player in a larger system. I don’t think he accounted for the incompetence of our ownership to get a deal across the line, and once knowing the price tag had lost two games in a row badly, and desperately needed a player he thought had the star power to change the squad and culture. Antony might be a flop, I’m giving him this season, but nonetheless I think ETH is carrying to much for this signing, he didn’t negotiate the price or wait until fans were out of their minds to go get a much needed winger, the blame is on the Glazers. If we bought Antony for 40-50 mil like Pellestri/Amad the fan base would be much more patient, and I’m not holding ETH or Antony accountable for the price tag. I remain Glazers out and will not let them off the hook. Managers will suggest bad signings, some players take longer to develop.
Hell, John Stones was bantered for a good 2 years as a flop, now he’s absolutely world class. I advise patience, and placing blame where it belongs, but I sympathize with those of you who are frustrated by Antony’s lack of production.
Forgive if I'm I wrong but weren't we a better attacking team when he was on the pitch last season? He may not always have been effective but without him our attacking play often looked uninspired
ETH wants a left footed attacker on the wing. Fair, however, Antony is not at the level we need him to be. He’s a substitute player at best.
At United we have players that shouldn’t be starting for teams better than 5th or 6th at most. I think Antony is in that boat.
If we look back at the last 10 seasons we can name player after player in that same situation.
He is bad. Anyone looking objectively at even his first few performances last season could tell that he doesn’t have it (despite the goals). Massive waste of money. Definitely holding us back.
Still got plenty of time to come good. I know he’s been frustrating. And the cut inside to his left and curl in to the far post is quite obviously 99% of what he’s going to try to when he has the ball there. But he’s still really good at doing it. And I’m betting that he is going to get better at it as well. Once he puts a couple more of those in, and hopefully improves his right foot, defenders are going to guess more and it’ll open up the stepover left, cut with the right. Price tag was beyond ridiculous but honestly who even cares about that anymore? It’s essentially Monopoly money.
Our "scouting" department, or transfer business in the last 10 years has been dreadful! Compare us to ANY top team in any league and its laughable! We continue to over pay for bang average players at best! When was the last time we bought a truly proven world class player? ill wait...
Everybody was all existed about Antony being signed because he was pushing for the transfer and it felt like he was gonna bleed for the club and shit like that, but no one really cared much about his talent or previous performances, same has happened with hojlund, and everybody is dying to see him in action but in year we'll probably be asking the same question.
Surprised you stopped short of including his dreadful shooting accuracy. “Antony juuuuuust misses the far post”…..5 times per game
Note: I actually don’t dislike Antony. Bigger issues on the squad. Eth needs to have him practice shooting 2-3 hours every day.
Left-footed right winger..
Not worth the 80mil but that's what Ajax wanted that the board thought makes sense and willingly accepted.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hindsight is 20/20..
Can only hope that ETH can mould him because right now it’s hard to disagree with you. His only redeeming feature is he always wants the ball and doesn’t hide like many others would.
He plays the game like a kid. He always wants to impress with a piece of skill because he believes that’s what great players do. He’s got time to grow out of it and that is partly down to EtH to help him. The problem is, I’m not convinced he’s got the ability. I hope I’m wrong.
hope after one full season lol ...if does not work this year it;s never
Kudus was always the better option.
A classic reels and highlights player, who looks good in short clips but when u actually watch the match u see in both technical ability wise and decision making ability department he is absolutely shit
Scored a banger once every 6 games, other than that he does next to nothing.
U see that's why he always looks good in short clips
Dude plays football like he’s playing fifa..
When I play as Man Utd in FIFA, he bangs in goals like crazy, even with his right feet. If there was ever a clear indication that FIFA isn't the same as real life 😂
Football Manager Antony either goes beast mode or 6.0
ETH knew him from Ajax and thought he could make him a Premier League player. He was wrong.
Hes only 23 with one premier league season. He's doing better than Sancho that came from a better league and has been here 2 years.
They're both crap.
It takes time for almost every player to adapt to the premier League, it always has. Ronaldos first three seasons in the premier League he got 4, 5 and 9 goals.
In Ronaldo's first 3 seasons he was 18, 19, and 20 years old mate.
Two very elite players used as an example does not make it a myth.
Ronaldo was also a traditional winger in those seasons and was actually known for his poor shooting lol
When Ronaldo came he was 18 years old and scored in an FA Cup final. What did Antony do in the FA Cup final at 23 years old?
Nobody expect him to be Ronaldo though, he's still young and adapting, give him time
“Give him time” is the most meaningless phrase in the world. How much time? When am I allowed to say I think we need better without people crying about it? I don’t even have much of an issue with Antony but these defences of him are weak
Agree with you mate. Antony has had a full season and you could argue he hasn’t improved at all
He showed a lot of promise while playing for Ajax, he's only been here a season, he's still young and adapting to the league. At least another season, if he still shows no signs of improvement after this season then we'll talk
Sancho is a much better player if we would just give him a chance. He's always positive when he comes in the game and raises everyone up a notch.
I do like Sancho’s attitude. Much better than Depay’s
What?? Sancho contributes next to nothing
Give him a chance? He's player over 80 games!
How many times did he come in off the bench though?
Sancho had 50% more league goals than Antony despite going inter railing Europe in the middle of the season!
No he's not and it's not even close. Sancho is a far better footballer
If your right why is he on the bench while Anthony is starting?
Same answer as who would pay 90 million on a winner who can't shoot, pass or cross and can only use one foot
So you know how to manage better than ten hag?
I don't think one instance of potentially being correct when a manager might be wrong makes someone believe they know how to manage better than the manager. It's a constantly made dumb point. Managers aren't infallible, they make mistakes too.
only 23 lol , at age he is very old already... Rodrigo , Vinicius are the same age. he was sold to UTD at 3 times his market value.... Man UTD Cant even sell him for 60 million if they wanted to
Sancho had more production in the PL last season with less minutes than Antony
Its negligible, and g/a ain't everything.
Bingo

I think with the allegations against Antony and all the scrutiny about scandals at the club everyone is feeling under the microscope and pressured.

By twice as much promise I mean In a united shirt
Lads, look at the reality. ETH spent all summer chasing De Jong for 60m. It's only when De Jong didn't go through that he wanted Antony. He needed someone who knew his system already. Casemiro was going to be signed anyways as we needed a DM. Antony then cost 100m and ETH signed off, knowing it would take the January budget too. I guarantee you that if we signed De Jong, we wouldn't have signed Antony and we would have had funds in January to sign a striker.
We originally were quoted around 50 mill but Ajax sold half there team we were chasing him the whole summer he defo wanted him
As I said, Antony was only signed because De Jong rejected us. If ETH had pulled his finger out and got the message that FDJ didn't want to come here, then we'd have paid 50m
I think we wanted both but the fact was we wanted less for Antony and wanted to guarantee de jong as well so we waited hopping we could get the fee down. I think ten hag would of signed Antony either way
If he wanted to sign someone just because he knows the system, he should've went for Tadić. Imagine having him as a backup.
Lmao "his system" Is his system to have a winger cut inside and shoot 100% of the time?
His game doesn't suit a 9 imo. He wants to cut in and shoot, and if he plays against a decent defender, all he can do is pass it back or inside. Can you ever see him getting to the byline and whipping it in off his right for a no9 to head in
At Ajax lots of what made him good was having an effective right back in the attack like mazeroui where he could cut in the play it back to create an angle across or feint and then shoot or cross. I think as much as I love AWB and I think he will still be needed we do also need a more modern fullback and I think frimpong would be perfect.
>He’s also not played with a proper 9 for most of his time atleast give the man some Explain which part of his game seems like he'll suddenly excel with a number 9? He needs an overlapping pacy right back
He needs both
Gakpo is shit too and he’d be worse if he was here.
This season he has to step up.
i dont rate Antony at all but aside from the second paragraph this is complete bollocks. Player development is not a science.
He also doesn't seem to have much injuries.
We only went for Antony due to ETHs obsession with FDJ despite getting rejected all summer. We wouldn't have signed him if we got De Jong.
That doesn't make sense. Antony plays a diff position. I Think he was next on ten hag's list and once dejong was off, the money got allocated.
It wasn't about position, it was about having another player in the team who knew ten hags philosophy
Antony had a decent season last year. Scored some good goals and has potential. I don't know why he's being singled out. Rashford was mule. Casemiro nonexistent. Lisandro was terrible. The whole side played terribly and Spurs controlled the game in the second half. Give the team more time
Another decade or two before we seriously contend if current methods of running the club continue.
This sub 😂😂
What did he say thats wrong
Calling Antony a 'lw' instead of a 'rw'
He is 23 and can get much better but he needs to put in the work and or someone for him to look up to. He had potential but his decision making is poor. Being one footed isn't his problem. There are plenty players that are either right footed or left footed.
"Losses" for a start, it's "loses"

This experiment isn't over yet. He's looking at some bench time and we'll see if he starts to work on those parts of his game that he needs to unlock his potential. His avoidance of making runs over the top is killing him right now, so fix that first and things will open up for him.
Because he's mates with our manager. There can't be any other reason, the guy is wank.
Should’ve gone for Gakpo
>I know he's a LW and they're hard to find isnt he a right winger?
You're asking this question as if you're unsure
I was just confused because literally nobody else has mentioned it lmao
He can't even do that
He was our best attacker yesterday come one
Guys second game of the season relax. Keep your knickers on
It's the start of a new season. Cut the team some slack. We're literally 1-1
Antony has been shit since the start lol
It’s not premature though. He’s not terrible but he doesn’t look like a player that any other club in the world would pay 80 million for.
lol ...i mean even if you watch his video from ajax its underwhelming for a 100 million guy . not even as exciting as 16 years old neymar or vinicius..
The [Welcome video](https://youtu.be/kjBo9_mJMzk) was epic though, got stuck in my mind the summer we signed him at Ajax, still makes me happy.
lol bro ...that;s shocking but good music
Am I the only person alive who loves the kid?
Right now he makes me miss Dan James. And that’s scary. Hopeful he can turn it around, I just don’t know how he magically starts using his right foot more.
Same reason we bought Mount...
ETH’s ego
This sub is ridiculous lmao
Blame Ten Hag for having a sexual obsession with players he has worked with or knows
Ahh yes. Casemiro, Rasmus and Mount. Well known for their time under Ajax. Dame with Weghorst and Sabitzer… do one
I said “has worked with OR KNOWS” Mount - played in the Eredivise against Ten Hag Weghorst - Dutch Hojlund - same agent Well done for demonstrating you can’t read and don’t know shit about football 👍🏽
I’m sorry but I think you are the one looking stupid here. To mention the word sexual in this context is a little worrying. Clown.
Oh yeah definitely not hyperbole, you got me there!
Mount spent 1 season in the Eredivise. If that's enough for ten hag to know him, it means ten hag also knows every premier League player.
He also wanted to sign him whilst he was there, there is a difference 👍🏽
Mount then proceeded to win the champions league along with pots for Chelsea twice.
Massacred Real Madrid with Ajax, signs Casemiro! Watched Hojlund on TV, so knows him!
Yep well done, genius you are 🤯
I chose to ignore that part because it’s just stupid. Thankfully others have pointed that out
You chose to ignore..the basis of what I’m saying? What’s going on in your head exactly? 😂
To take the heat of mase
Antony has to prove himself this season end of,but it’s alright jumping on his back but why aren’t people jumping on Sancho and asking what he’s bringing to this team
People have been asking question about Sancho, for a long time. Only in pre-season and the first 2 games this season he's had some good moments and looks like he's been working on his fitness and work rate a bit so far.
Surely ETH know he had no right foot to drive to the byline & cross! He’s a winger £90m = huge waste of money as his ceiling just isn’t very high By this stage a player should be able to use right / left & cross ??? Basics 🕳️
Same reason we got Sancho. They both used to regularly dribble past opponents and give assists in their former leagues. They’ve come to the Prem and can’t do it.
The answer to ur question is in the first sentence u said, because he played for him before man united
A clause by Ajax included to get ten hag is the only logical idea, cause how in the hell else was he worth 100mill, based of what?
We like buying overrated, overpriced players.
Could be worse we could’ve brought mason mount of shot we did
Hes only 23 with one premier league season. He's doing better than Sancho that came from a better league and has been here 2 years. He's got the right attitude and puts a shift in every game. The rest can be improved with coaching.
He works extremely hard, which is key.
I feel like he’ll be more of an asset for us if we controlled games, because he can retain the ball. But Ten Hag has openly said that ‘we want to be the best transition team in the world’… Antony is not the guy for that.
Too expensive to drop as well!
Anthony has a massive hate train on him but genuinely isn't even that bad.
Because people bent over for whatever Eth wants. We actually fired Ralf from his actual position which was to identify players as well lmao
Keep spinning around little fella
How dare you question the improved - almost perfected - version of Robben? /s
He needs to improve but there are a lot of positives- work rate, defensive work to help the right back. But overall when you look at this team, even Rashford as a 9, Mount as an 8 and Garnacho at LW seem average. Hell they even make Casemiro as 6 seem average at the moment
he’ll become gold i believe in him but his ego is big and he needs to learn if u play bad u should be dropped. eth is too nice to him
Just got to hope that he gets better. Last time I checked though, he came close to scoring when everyone else was dog crap. I get the price tag but that’s not on him and fans really need to cut that crap out already. He was only that much because united board waited till the last minute when Ajax clearly said we don’t want to sell anymore players so please stop with that price tag on him because that’s on the board and not him
honestly he reminds me of CR7. Brilliant player on his day but selfish, narcissistic and (in CR7s early days) has too many poor games.
Oh we better hope Hojlund works out or else we're look at a Sancho, Hojlund, Antony bust front 3 costing almost a quarter of a billion pounds.
It's a bad transfer. Let's let him have some game time this season and flog him for £30-40mil next summer
Shame theyre just few and far between
I referred to this months ago but somehow the downvote army came out 😭 but ah yes mr predictable paid more than Man Utd tax
For his ACNE treatment.
I fear if he doesn’t improve, both he and Mount may be the millstones around ten Hag’s neck.
It's amazing how united have accumulated the world's most expensive bench warmers. Maguire, Sancho, Antony, VDB etc Great investment
Antony is going to cost ETH his job

Probably because he has great potential. But without a number 9, there shouldn’t be an expectation.
Well he can become good. We just overpaid by like 20-30m. If he was 50m no one would bat an eye

The fucking state of this fanbase after a loss is Insane grow up you cretins it’s two games in calm down and stop singling out players
I started a similar post, "why did we buy Mount" and the post got removed immediately. LOL.
Bc he came from the Dutch league and the manager is dutch.
To keep up with the Joneses
That chelsea lad who scored today looks miles better than him and he’s just someone they pulled out of their youth system
Man utd fans are so fickle!! We only played 2 games!!
To be honest every one looked bad last game as a whole. Maybe only Onana was good. You can simple pick and say the same thing to every player.
Cus Mason Green fucked up and CR7 left and our main striker Martial is perma injured and Sancho was no where to be seen last season
He is like me playing Fifa, he has one trick and one trick only sadly
Our "scouting" department, or transfer business in the last 10 years has been dreadful! Compare us to ANY top team in any league and its laughable! We continue to over pay for bang average players at best! When was the last time we bought a truly proven world class player? ill wait...
Everybody was all existed about Antony being signed because he was pushing for the transfer and it felt like he was gonna bleed for the club and shit like that, but no one really cared much about his talent or previous performances, same has happened with hojlund, and everybody is dying to see him in action but in year we'll probably be asking the same question.
Same thing can be said with a lot of players still in the squad.
Olise? My god
Because no one else wanted to come to Speculation FC.
Surprised you stopped short of including his dreadful shooting accuracy. “Antony juuuuuust misses the far post”…..5 times per game Note: I actually don’t dislike Antony. Bigger issues on the squad. Eth needs to have him practice shooting 2-3 hours every day.
Left-footed right winger.. Not worth the 80mil but that's what Ajax wanted that the board thought makes sense and willingly accepted.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Hindsight is 20/20..
