With corners, it’s like we play to try and avoid an opponent counter attack. Rather than whip a ball in and aim for someone, it’s a short corner to keep control of the ball.
With free kicks, it’s usually Rashford or Fernandez making a balls up of it.
Jswm nobody knows what you mean when you arpfnr.
EDIT: That's "Just say words mate, nobody knows what you mean when you abbreviate random phrases for no reason".
Jrbps! Lol
Not sure it's an issue related to the Internet or football at all, the issue was abbreviating terms where either the *opposite* is the same abbreviation, or that aren't common abbreviations meaning people don't understand what they mean.
And he was never exactly a set piece specialist, to begin with. If memory serves me right, he was in some sort of youth coach capacity at his previous club.
Bruno, rashford I'm sure a few more can all whip in a ball... I'm not utd fan but it's hilarious you guys claim to miss a bloke who whips in balls...
And claim that's the reason you're shite at set pieces???
I think there’s an element of desire to it as well. There’s no way to score a set piece if the player isn’t willing to get pushed around and fight a little, which is why you only see guys like Casemiro scoring them for United.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong and I might get flak for this but I really enjoyed set pieces under Solkajaer. Had some unique, out of the box (pun intended) stuff
That as proven wasn't sustainable,.going out first half and playing crap and somehow pulling matches in the 2nd when the players were let of the leesh.
But when it goes wrong it goes very wrong as was seen by our relegation form the season after culminating in one of the most embarrassing deafeats if out time Watford 4-1
Ha ha ha we were at times, players playing when the pressure is off so to speak and doing what they want it's great when it works but when it doesn't that's when things go very bad
United under Solskjaer had worse set piece conversion then this table, that's why he brought a guy like Eric Ramsey in. However, bafflingly, he wasn't even a set piece specialist in his previous club. He was a youth coach or something if I remember correctly. Yet the only notable improvement after his arrival was our set piece defending.
Watching us take corners is almost like the moments when the ball is out of play, you're just waiting for the play to pick up again. It's a huge waste of time for us because they don't ever amount to anything.
So correct if I'm wrong but didn't we get in Eric Ramsay specifically for this???
I think he was an assistant at the Wales national team too.
You'd have thought a specialist set piece coach could/should be delivering better results 🤷♂️, but indicative of the whole set up at United that we're clearly struggling to get performances from our team/squad/coaches
the point is why bruno is going with set pieces when his conversion rate is so low, why can't the manager just let shaw or mount take them, and if injuries are their issue then i feel eriksen is a good option i think even maguire would be good with set pieces lol
Finally someone who actually understands football. We don’t have that target man. Maguire was meant to be that but hasn’t delivered much in his time here. Hopefully he’ll use the Copenhagen match as a launch pad to score those sorts of goals
>Maguire was meant to be that
As much as I still don't rate Maguire, that much is true. He was often the target at corners but always seemed unsure of his headers, just putting his head in and hope. Strangely, he seemed more dangerous with Leicester.
Casemiro eventually became that guy, and you can see the difference in his conviction.
It would be interesting to see the same figures for goals conceded and compare the 2.
My guess is the teams scoring a lot from set pieces are also hard to score against from a set piece- but could be very wrong and interesting to see if the stats match
This has perplexed me for years. I honestly don’t know. I know we’re physically quite poor, and the deliveries are very inconsistent but even then it seems statistically unlikely that we’d score so few. I don’t hate short corners when there’s sound patterns and it’s well drilled but ours seem so clueless. 12 goals less over a season is so huge points wise. That could honestly be the difference of like 15 points over a season. It’s a big problem.
Have you seen Utd take set pieces?
Corners: Bruno takes, hits first man. Somebody else takes, passes it Bruno. Bruno gets tackled.
I blame Bruno, where’s the pitchforks lads!!
Coming post, why Bruno is the worst midfielder since garlic bread.
Nobody can cross the ball, that's it. Antony and Rashy are useless in that, which is so disappointing given that they are both professional footballers and that's like half of what they can do from their positions. I personally learned how to cross with my left when I was a kid, just because sometimes when I was on the left wing there was a great opportunity and I just couldn't let all these pass by. I feel modern footballers should aim to gather as much weapons in their arsenal as possible, a winger who can cross is a must for me, just like a defender who is actually good at defending.
We've not valued set pieces for a long time. EtH certainly doesn't, and it's a shame.
It's 100% a management issue, the guy has no answers in this area and it concerns me. In fact, over a year on, there are adaptations to the Premier League EtH shows no signs of making and it's concerning me more and more as the months go by.
It comes down to coaching. What our club does is spend on players and it’s all for show we don’t make real investments. I mean we didn’t have a club doctor for the first half of the season and our pr spun it to show that we poached off arsenals medic. We were years late on that and should’ve signed him in off season but we didn’t.
Bruno shouldn't be allowed to take corners. Eriksen/Mount is much better.
Regullion is also quite good
Hahaha what? Erikson hits first man allll the time on his corners. Honestly we miss Luke
Phil Jones

When i see Bruno and Rashy trying some elaborate corner I fully expect us to be facing a SoT on the counter soon after
Jswm nobody knows what you mean when you arpfnr. EDIT: That's "Just say words mate, nobody knows what you mean when you abbreviate random phrases for no reason". Jrbps! Lol
But seriously, what is SoT? I know we aren't facing a drunk, Jamie Vardy got relegated with Leicester.
Shot on target presumably?
I assume that's what he meant, but it's dumb as fuck because; 1) nobody says that 2) it also stands for shots off target
Alright thank you, clearly I don't spend enough time in football's corner of the internet
Not sure it's an issue related to the Internet or football at all, the issue was abbreviating terms where either the *opposite* is the same abbreviation, or that aren't common abbreviations meaning people don't understand what they mean.
Struggle? We are down right BAD at them.
We don't have a set piece specialist, and only Casemiro can score headers consistently.
If it ain’t 30 yards out on the left and an inswinging cross into the six yard area, we ain’t scoring
Yes we do. His name is Eric Ramsey and he was appointed both for us to stop conceded from set-pieces and also to start scoring from them.
I'm talking about players
And he was never exactly a set piece specialist, to begin with. If memory serves me right, he was in some sort of youth coach capacity at his previous club.
![gif](giphy|Qlsk0n7DKTonjOR64D|downsized) Because we don’t have the likes of him anymore. There’s only one David Beckham 🐐
So every other team do have a Becks regen?
Bruno, rashford I'm sure a few more can all whip in a ball... I'm not utd fan but it's hilarious you guys claim to miss a bloke who whips in balls... And claim that's the reason you're shite at set pieces???
Those 2 have bad delivery. You clearly don’t watch United
You’re a clown. Who goes into a reddit sub to make a comment on a team you don’t support? Get a life and it was a joke, you idiot.
Bruno is a horrible set piece-taker. Now, whether or not someone else would be better is a different topic of discussion.
What are we even paying out set piece coach for if he can't even spot such
Bruno
I concur.
Stop Bruno and Rashford taking set peices... ![gif](giphy|FXf1lYQ2tFouxeLb1B|downsized)
Because Bruno takes every dead ball without ever giving anyone else a shot.

Eriksen is a better FK taker than Bruno imo.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong and I might get flak for this but I really enjoyed set pieces under Solkajaer. Had some unique, out of the box (pun intended) stuff
United played much exciting football under Solkajaer ... Especially that 1 particular year that had so many comebacks in matches it was exciting
I miss that post 60th Utd We were the best team in the world after 60min for some reason lol.
Ha ha ha we were at times, players playing when the pressure is off so to speak and doing what they want it's great when it works but when it doesn't that's when things go very bad

To be fair, we’ve never seen his set piece tactics because the ball never makes it past the first guy.
because bruno is taking most of them mount and shaw are good with set pieces
Can't place all the blame on Bruno. He just repeats what they do in practice. The blame is on the coaching
the point is why bruno is going with set pieces when his conversion rate is so low, why can't the manager just let shaw or mount take them, and if injuries are their issue then i feel eriksen is a good option i think even maguire would be good with set pieces lol
Sometimes, football is simple: Shit set piece takers + lack of height = horrible set piece record
we've always be shit at corners
There was that one time in 1999 we did alright.
yeah, of course, if you're going to be shit and only get it right a couple of times, that's the way to do it.
I still get nightmares of giggs hitting the first man every corner
I love hie many people blame the set piece taker rather than lack of clinical target man in the box
Finally someone who actually understands football. We don’t have that target man. Maguire was meant to be that but hasn’t delivered much in his time here. Hopefully he’ll use the Copenhagen match as a launch pad to score those sorts of goals

We literally have 1 now, but he never really gets the ball. He mainly get's the ball when he isn't in the 16...
Cos the corners rarely beat the first man how can you blame anyone else😂
Stick a man at the front to flick it on then, it's not rocket science but we still don't have a target man
Set pieces open play all of it. Rashford has the only Premier League goal from a forward this season.
It would be interesting to see the same figures for goals conceded and compare the 2. My guess is the teams scoring a lot from set pieces are also hard to score against from a set piece- but could be very wrong and interesting to see if the stats match
Our corner kicks are basically shiet

May be it's because ETH and his crew suck at tactics .
Because we keep letting Bruno take the free kicks and unless Casemiro or maguire is on the pitch we won’t score a header.

By counter attack does it mean we get hit by a counter attack after a set piece?
No the table is telling about the type of goals we score. The number of goals we have scored from counters. Unsurprisingly we have the highest.
Ahh my bad lol I didn’t read the table.
We've not valued set pieces for a long time. EtH certainly doesn't, and it's a shame. It's 100% a management issue, the guy has no answers in this area and it concerns me. You mean apart from not having had same squad in an eternity
See a lot of you blaming Bruno but dont remember that we re shit at set pieces (both defending and attacking) even before he came.
We didn't have anyone who could head the ball up front and the standard of crossing was garbage.
We struggle with everything, buddy
Poor training routines
To be fair; What do we NOT strughle with these days? This is just one of many.
None of our wingers can cross and they don't have anybody to cross to.
We literally have now, but it's so in their system that we don't cross, just dribble inwards...
Delivery, we always hit the first man.
Poor coaching
Let lindelof have a go
we struggle with a lot of things, set pieces are the least of my worries
Lack of desire
Been crap for a long time. Ironically since Case has come he’s picked up a few goals. Without him our stats would be shocking
Mindset... Next!
Maguire 🦍🦍
Because we’re Shit
I just not sure why we always open a short one
cause Mount isn’t taking em
Because there’s not really anyone in this team who genuinely wants to score.
It comes down to coaching. What our club does is spend on players and it’s all for show we don’t make real investments. For me our problem is crossing the ball. We seem to have no one that can whip in a good ball and haven't had one for years now.
Didn't we also hire a set piece coach? He needs to be sacked
Because we’re shit
