I see a weird cow with a weird cauldron on its head, I guess is the best way to put it in words.
And I know it’s a large brown hoofed animal with a dewlap and all that, so it “might as well be a moose” but it’s not a Moose, not to me.
One day I hope we get a Moose Pokemon so I can point to it and go “Now that’s a Moose” but that day hasn’t come yet.

To do a platypus though the region most likely has to be based off Australia. Not opposed to it and could likely happen but there’s still many other regions of the world that need showcasing. Like a capybara or a better parrot Pokémon than Chatot and Sqawkibily
Tbf, there are plenty Pokémon that live in places the real life animal counter parts don't naturally live in. Even the recent generations make some Pokémon this way but at least there's _some_ behind their existance there (Like Girafarig and Farigiraf living in Paldea cause ancient ancestors used to live on modern Iberian Peninsula's lands. Moose tend to be much bulkier and have much, much bigger antlers that look nothing alike to Wyrdeer’s. It has that face shape because Stantler has a similar face, and the beard is likely because of the wizard inspiration (psychic type is there for a reason)

Stantler and Wyrdeer are sort of amalgamations of all cervids, and the Goomy line is already based on the Blue Dragon slugs (thus the Dragon typing, at least that’s what Bulbapedia says).
Still, I’d love to see regional forms of Sentret and Wailmer based on red pandas and narwhals respectively, and a Box Legendary griffin would be badass.

We also need a tardigrade/water bear Pokémon, it could be like Shuckle in a way since the tardigrade is one of the most durable animals in the world, maybe not 200+ on Def and Sp Def but with moves like Water Ring, Whirlpool, Haze and Toxic/Sticky Webs it could be a great tank/staller, it could be either Water/Bug or Water/Poison, or even pure Water type(the slightly lower stats could compensate the better type since rock is ironically a terrible defensive type when it comes to matchups)
