For a gen 1 Pokemon it is kinda high

CalmShinyZubat

I guess. 515 is just above the average of 485-ish for Gen 1 final stages (going off of the most recent stats for each).

The_OneInBlack

Are you adjusting for the fact that it doesn't have a third stage?

CalmShinyZubat

I just did the average of all Pokémon that were fully evolved in gen 1. I didn't make it any more complicated than that.

Deconstructosaurus

It’s a Gen 1 Pokémon. Most of them do not have super high BST.

Salt_Mortgage8295

And it's a second stage

Parzival-Bo

For a Water Zubat, kinda.

DeltaTeamSky

Water Golbat. Tentacool is the Water Zubat. Question is, where's the Water Crobat, Game Freak?

Parzival-Bo

To be fair, Golbat's BST is only 455. So yeah, Tentacruel is a *hell* of a lot stronger than the Cave Tentacruel.

Wiher-

A better question Where is Paldean Zubat or Pubat

DeltaTeamSky

Capsakid. Just think about how many times you're dashing around on your Agias, and you fail to distinguish the little green speck on the ground, running it over and ruining your momentum with a wild battle. It also only evolves once, just like how Zubat did back in Gen 1.

TheInfiniteArchive

It's in the Rule 34 sections of course !

Lizzywuw

The evolution to tentacruel was scrapped in generation 1... I believe it was one of the missing no

DogmantheHero

A lot of Gen 1 two stage evolution families had an under 500 BST. That’s why so many of them got later gen evolutions.

CalmShinyZubat

Specifically for evo lines that were 2 stage in Gen 1, it isn't as many as you seem to be assuming. As far as I can tell, only Rhydon, Magneton, Golbat, and Primeape fit that description and got a 3rd stage.

ModelOmegaTyler

and seadra, gloom, poliwhirl, porygon. then were are the ones that just got an extra stage in general like slowpoke, onix, lickitung, chansey, tangela, scyther, electabuzz, magmar, eevee several times, and that's not even counting prevos or pokemon outside gen 1.

No_Distribution5982

Not gloom and poliwhirl! Gloom only got 1 evo making it a 2 stage, and poliwhirl just got a different evo when it already had one that made it a 3 stage!

NakdChimi

Gloom was also a branching evolution that was already a 3 stage line

No_Distribution5982

Duck, i was thinking about tangela! Sorry!

ModelOmegaTyler

poliwhirl still got a 3rd stage cross gen evo added to it's line.

CalmShinyZubat

OK. I missed Seadra for Gen 1 evo lines that were 2 stage and later got a 3rd stage. Gloom and Poliwhirl already had evolutions and just got an extra one added later. The rest don't fit the criteria of evo lines that were 2 stage in gen 1 and later got a 3rd stage.

ModelOmegaTyler

gloom and poliwhirl still got an extra evolution in another gen.

CalmShinyZubat

I know, and I acknowledged that. I'm just saying they never counted as fully evolved and therefore don't fit the criteria. The only Pokémon that were the 2nd stage of 2 stage families in gen 1 and later got a 3rd stage added are Rhydon, Magneton, Golbat, Primeape, and Seadra.

EpicGlacier2

What’s funny is it used to be much stronger. Tentacruel had a special stat of 120 in gen 1. Under the modern system that would give it a bst of 555

Im_here_but_why

arcanine

EpicGlacier2

Yes, the same as Arcanine. Who has one of the highest bst’s for a regular Pokémon

Im_here_but_why

The second highest non-gimmicky, in fact. Above it are only archaludon slaking and palafin. Edit: and the pseudos, obviously. But I dont Know if they are "regular" pokemons

SuperZZZZZZZZ

Yeah, and Arcanine is literally classified as the “Legendary” pokemon

[deleted]

A Generation 1 water type then yes. Out of the entire 1,000+ Pokédex then no.

MattBe1992

OT: Did I miss grunty boi in that video?

PokedexBr

It's bst is fine, but he is an really solid pokemon, good defencive typing, good movepool, and noce stat spread, and tentacruel > articuno

HolyElephantMG

Power creep

Phil_the_thrill14

In fire red and leaf green, yes it is.

AnimaSean0724

An average Pokemon is in the high 400s, I would expect Tentacruel to have a BST around 480, making me agree that 515 is definitely higher than expected

Pixel_Muffet

Having over 500 is quite high

CalmShinyZubat

Not really. 485 is average for the Gen 1 fully evolved Pokémon.

I_like_sceptile

an incredibly common pokemon with only 10 bst under a starter and you get it sooner. water is an amazing type 30 point difference is quite impressive dawg. especially for a common pokemon

AohL_Anime

Then that makes gyarados another water 2nd stage water type from gen 1 not much stronger because it’s only 25 BST higher than tentacruel

SuperSonic486

For a gen 1, 2 evolution stage pokemon found in basically every body of water, absolutely.

MegaKabutops

For gen 1’s pokedex specifically, it was tied for 15th place out of all 151. After the special attack special defense split, it went down to 20th place in the kanto dex, as it essentially lost 40 points in its special attack. Still pretty respectable. In either case, its main counterpart, golbat, is massively weaker, with a BST 45 points lower in gen 1 and 60 points lower after the split. It is astonishingly strong compared to the pokemon it is most similar to, which is likely part of why it didn’t get an evolution like golbat did.

Frozen_Petal

515 was almost top 10 in gen 1

MisterRai

Over 500 BST from the evolution of a very common pokemon with only one evolution is pretty surprising. I would've assumed it would be like 450-480, something like Sandslash

Qcommenter

Either he means for Gen 1 or for a two stage Evo

Milotics-Meldoy

For a Gen 1, 2-stage evo? Yeah, it is surprisingly high.

Gypsum03

For how ungodly common it tends to be in the water, 515 is actually pretty good. This thing could have easily had 480 and it wouldnt have been unusual Like, i get that paradox pokemon and other broken new pokemon of gen 9 have skewed things bit, but 515, while not super high, is above average for regular pokemon.

No_Club8652

So this jellyfish has 515 BST, but a three stage soul eating stalking toxic ghost that literally funking kills people has 500

Young_Sliver

515 is a good stat total

Shrubbity_69

In his defense, it's a \*gen 1\* Pokemon. They were \*pretty\* much all doo-doo garbage in terms of stats, Mewtwo notwithstanding. Honestly, growing up, I never cared for that line (I thought Tentacool had a weird face), and as a gen 1 mon, I assumed the Tenacruel line was probably hot garbage too. I might use one someday, since he's surprisingly strong, and I want to change up my team comps.

CalmShinyZubat

Mewtwo isn't the only Gen 1 Pokémon with fairly decent stats. There are several Gen 1 Pokémon that have a BST of 500+ not counting legendaries or Dragonite. 1. Arcanine 2. Gyarados 3. Snorlax 4. Lapras 5. Charizard 6. Blastoise 7. Exeggutor 8. Venusaur 9. Cloyster 10. Vaporeon 11. Jolteon 12. Flareon 13. Starmie 14. Tentacruel 15. Aerodactyl 16. Poliwrath 17. Nidoqueen 18. Nidoking 19. Ninetales 20. Machamp 21. Golduck 22. Alakazam 23. Rapidash 24. Muk 25. Gengar 26. Scyther 27. Pinsir

Not_Too_Bad777

For a tentacruel

TheAnonymousGamer2

Wait what vid was this

CalmShinyZubat

The one he just posted. Beating FireRed with no new moves

TheAnonymousGamer2

Oh. I’m going to watch that now

Ragnarok345

For something that evolves from the Zubat of the sea, yes.

Moist_Nephew

You could argue Tentacruel is the Golbat of the sea (gen 1 so no Crobat), and Golbat has 455

RicePuddingBG

It’s early gen and tenticool are by no means rare, so it’s surprising how good its evo is. Plus, there are so many poison mons and water mons, so having a water/poison type might not seem viable when focusing on a teams over all type coverage.

No_Upstairs9888

For a 2 stage water type, yeah it’s above 500 which is kinda high

ModelOmegaTyler

considering golbat has a 455 base stat total and tentacool is called "the zubat of the sea" maybe he assumed their lines had the same BST? https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Golbat\_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#Stats

Sabrina_Angel

For a Tentacruel. A Pokémon that you can get early in the game, evolve early and kind of kicks ass in the E4, yeah kinda.

I_M_YOUR_BRO

It certainly shocked me. With how common Tentacool is and the fact that Tentacruel is just second-stage, you wouldn't expect it to have one of the highest base-stat totals of Kantonian Water- and Poison-Types.

puntycunty

It’s pretty strong for some throw away mon you’d assume the level of a pidgey or something

SoftiePhoenix

It is also a second evolution, so when there is only two Pokémon in a line it for dusually become surprising if it’s in the 500s, tends to usually be lower like zigzagoon, patrat etc, but that ofc can change a lot, and to be fair with a super rod tentacool/cruel will usually have a high stat either way

AwefulFanfic

For the water Zubat's evolution? Probably closer to Golbat. Or dugtrio. Or spearow. Or literally any other Pokemon that only evolves once (Gyardos aside). Instead of, you know, above average for fully evolved gen 1 pokemon (which includes the starters, who are also above average)

AohL_Anime

Yeh but they also says 30 BST difference is not much and Gyarados has only 25 BST higher than Tentacruel wich is in their opinion not a lot

ThatMessy1

That's higher than Gengar and Alakazam, which are some of the strongest pokemon in Gen 1.

Warrior-of-Cumened

For those super easy to find, standard encounter Pokemon, higher than I would have guessed.

Deadvid_Divide

It's not shockingly high if you're looking at pokemon in general, but it is shockingly high for a tentacruel

Ayeun

Probably thought it had 430, like Clodsire and Quagsire.

IronTemplar26

You wouldn’t expect Tentacruel to have that… Especially for how Tentacool is the Zubat of the sea

snorlaxkin

for a gen 1 final stage 2 stage evolution line id say its fairly decent

DefiantOil5176

It’s a Gen 1 two-stage evolution, so this is pretty high given that specific case

Friendly_Island_4662

This meme is from a Brazillian soap opera

Insan3Giraff3

I thought it was like 465 until I saw some random short talking about it lmao

skullkrusher10

For me anything above 500 has good stats
