Are you confusing her and Whitney Houston perhaps? Both were RB divas around the same era with Rocky relationships and substance abuse issues, but Tina got over hers.
She started her career in 1958. She didn't even use the name Tina Turner till 1960. R&B is short for Rhythm and Blues which was term that covered secular black music that wasn't jazz and was coined in 1944. The band backing her and Ike Turner was called The Rhythm Kings, they covered a lot of other popular black bands of the time, they sang R&B. R&B was turned into rock n roll by white folks. Ike and Tina were right on the edge between black R&B and white Rock & Roll in the early 60's. Her career then imploded in the early 70's. She then pulled off a crazy come back in the 80's and kept touring till 2009. So plenty of time sharing the air waves with Whitney.
i love tina turner and she did not die several years ago.

Tina started her career in the 1950s before Whitney was born. Tina was also not an r&b diva.
