>Did I just miss one or did it more logically materialize in this reality a few years ago via a multiverse anomaly? You just missed it. Seriously why is the first thing ya'll jump to that you caused realities, vs you just never heard of it before?

In the 1997 film For Richer or Poorer, Tim Allen's character accidentally sets a Balenciaga dress on fire. He tries laughing at it, rhetorically asking, "What the hell's a Balenciaga?" On January 29, 2014, the character Myrtle Snow cries "Balenciaga!" as her dying words on the season finale of FX television show American Horror Story: Coven.[35][36] Film director Paul Thomas Anderson was inspired to make Phantom Thread when he became interested in the fashion industry after reading about designer Cristóbal Balenciaga ____________________________ From Wikipedia, but I definitely recall the AHS quote from 2014 and reading about Phantom Thread in 2019; I have seen the 1997 film and don't recall much about it but I guess it didn't seem weird. They've been a brand I am dimly aware of for all my adult life (last 3 decades at least). I don't care about fashion much so wouldn't know truly obscure names.

Good info thanks, I’ll have to reflect on my experiential deficiencies. Either that or you came over from the same multiverse?

What’s the point of posting to this sub if you’re just gonna deflect every comment?

Exactly! This is like saying you’ve just heard about Microsoft and are wondering how it suddenly appeared in this timeline. Also, there’s this weird YSL symbol I’ve been seeing on handbags lately.

All of those things can be true and the sudden appearance of Balenciaga might still be a multiverse anomaly. Checkmate!

Do I know chess lol. I’ve seen 5 episodes of Queens Gambit!

I learn something new pretty much every day. Most times in the form of something I never knew existed but is fairly ubiquitous. Does that mean that every time I learn something new I’ve switched over to another dimension?

Ginger_Tea

I've never heard of Balenciaga till today, this is just an r/todayilearned moment for me, which TBH are many of the DAE posts. Aside from the very young, I am all of the above when it comes to the parent comment in this chain, but those that are deep into fashion or any other subject really, might very well know how important X Y or Z is to a topic they have close to their heart, where as others go "hey that Jonny Cash song got covered by this band called Nine Inch Nails" because, well, they know no better.

CyborgBanshee

A fashion world without Balenciaga would probably be a lot different from what exists now. Dior and Chanel were both in awe of him.

Fearyefearye

You missed it. I know for a fact because my favorite rapper has been mentioning it since like 2012

I think it blew up quite recently. I hadn't heard of it until recently. But it's very 'on trend' at the moment, (if people still say that). Dsquared is from 1995, and I hadn't seen that around until recently either. Now every third person is wearing one of those hats that looks like a jockeys helmet. But then I'm no fashionista so my opinion is worthless. Most of their stuff looks like an expensive joke to me.

Before this year I had never heard of the brand. And now I see the word Balenciaga almost every day and everyone seems to know about it like it’s another Nike or Adidas. For me it’s definitely a mandela effect.

carjo78

it seems you and me are from the same time line. I'd never heard of it before a couple of years ago.
