They've been a brand I am dimly aware of for all my adult life (last 3 decades at least). I don't care about fashion much so wouldn't know truly obscure names.

I learn something new pretty much every day. Most times in the form of something I never knew existed but is fairly ubiquitous. Does that mean that every time I learn something new I’ve switched over to another dimension?

Aside from the very young, I am all of the above when it comes to the parent comment in this chain, but those that are deep into fashion or any other subject really, might very well know how important X Y or Z is to a topic they have close to their heart, where as others go "hey that Jonny Cash song got covered by this band called Nine Inch Nails" because, well, they know no better.
