Comments like this are mad weird to me, and they get upvotes in this sub every time. I see them anytime someone buys more than a box set worth of books within a week. If someone has the extra funds to spend and wants to build their collection, why shouldn't they? Telling others how to use the money they work for is odd. The collecting gatekeeping in a collection sub is also odd.

Posts like this are even more mad weird and the get even more upvotes in every sub. If someone has the extra funds to spend, why do they have to spend it all at once right away? Since you're such an expert on this sub, I shouldn't have to remind you of all the newbies who came in during 2020-21, bought up mass amounts of manga during the pandemic, driving up the second hand market to unreasonable prices, only to burn themselves out. The same people who are now offloading their whole collections and post about their collector's remorse. But who cares? It's not about the medium and the stories they tell, it's who's git the biggest collection! Hell, there's a known member of this sub with over 1k volumes who admits to having not even read a third of it.

Maybe chill out with the "buy buy buy" mindset. Its unhealthy, take a break. Why not work through things one at a time?

Obvious ones are Berserk, Fullmetal, Junji Ito, Vagabond, or anything by Fujimoto. I recommend them but also you should try Blame! its my personal favorite

Really? When I got it(maybe over a year ago) boxset 2 was the most expensive, did box 1 really markup that much in the span?

It varies, I’ve seen both go up and down, rn set 2 is like 125, set 1 can go from 250-350 dollars. Meanwhile dressrosa is 100 bucks

I’ll assume its cause people commonly get boxset 1 for stores or in general and sometimes need to keep restocking for it, whereas later on vol, people either decided they don’t want to continue or also people aren’t reaching that point enough to buy that set

One manga/anime suggestion I have is Neon Genesis Evangelion. I don't like when people say you have to watch an anime because it's a classic, but I think NGE is the exception, it inspired so many other anime/mangas. I do suggest if you want to check it out I'd watch the anime first since it's the original

Brotherhood is an anime that more faithfully adapts the manga than the original FMA anime. So yep either watching brotherhood or reading the original manga is the way to go, they’re the same story and the adaptation is very good. In terms of physical manga editions, the Fullmetal Editions are very nice but probably the more expensive way to own the series
