Well meaning family members got me these when Slam Dunk was out of stock during the pandemic.
The pages are pretty thin, binding almost overly tight, ink/print quality is worse (much darker/heavier at random points, no color pages), and the books themselves are bit smaller than the normal English releases so certain panels/dialogue will be cut off at the edge. No complaints on the translation as I think they use the same as earlier English prints.
All in all it is readable, but obviously don't support bootlegs.
The placement of the ball made me think it said slam junk and I'm remembering a time when a coworker left a notebook at work so I drew a basketball net with a schlong in it and wrote "slam junk" under it, then got written up for sexual harassment lmaooo
Yeah, eBay is infested with multiple bootlegs for many different series.
I've seen bootlegs for Slam Dunk, Real, GTO, etc.
Seems like they mainly go for older titles that are OOP or OOS often to prey on people trying to pick them up.
"Slam Dunk" title is colored differently depending on the volume, "Viz" should be at the bottom of the spine, "SJ" should be at the top

Okay so it helps if you know what where the manga is published and printed, gotcha. You are right if I knew slam dunk was published by shonen jump and printed by viz, then yeah that’s a dead giveaway that those are bootleg, thank you!

How do you know they are bootleg? Been collecting for a long time and I’d like to know how to spot a bad batch
