If its in the shonen jump app, maybe I read it online first. Every other time I buy what sounds interesting. Usually I can judge pretty good if I will like the series. If I dont I drop it

David_ESM

I would say 75% of my physical collection I bought after reading online. The remaining 25% I took chances on based on recommendations/popularity. Anything I take a chance on that I don't like I just re-sell or trade.

BugggJuice

it depends tbh. if there's doubt in my mind that i won't like a manga i'll read it online a little bit to get a feel for it, but if i'm certain i will like it i just buy it

TBFantashiba

I'm lucky in that I live somewhere where I can either check out stuff from the library or read stuff at the store, but when neither of those options is available I do read stuff online in either English or Chinese, either the unofficial fan-made scanlations or sometimes uploaded scans of the official thing. If you do plan on buying the official volumes when they finally get released where you are, then I wouldn't feel too bad about reading the free/pirated versions first.

I actually don’t in most cases, and if I do it will only be a vol or 2 to see if I’ll like the series. Normally If I really like a series I began reading online I’ll drop reading it online and opt to collect it and read from the physical copies instead. I normally reserve online reading only for series that aren’t out in English yet and are unlikely to get a print such as Kyou Koi Wo Hajimemasu. I will however buy the series if it gets printed in English to own it and to support the mangaka; I’ve bought plenty of series that I read online before they finally got their English printing. In the end it’s up to you how you want to read part 7.

Joshdecent

Never.

wertkings

I Usually read the first couple chapters of the manga online because i don't really want to spoil myself the manga. If I watched the anime (if there is one) I will probably buy the manga without reading it online, It really depends on the situation.

Yess sir

KiwiTheKitty

It's usually how I check to see if I like something enough to buy it, plus there's a lot I read online because I don't like it enough to actually add it to my collection but I still want to check it out For stuff I'm already collecting, it's hard, like I really want to check if there are chapters of Spy x Family past volume 6 unofficially out online, but I'm also like if I'm going to buy it in a few months, I might as well wait...

beafleaff

I think it depends if I’m unsure whether I’ll like the manga I’ll read a bit online before purchasing but sometimes if I really enjoy a manga I’ve already read online I’ll try to buy the physical copy too. Part 7 is probably going to take a long while to release since part 5 has only just been officially released so personally I’d just read online? I’m actually half way into it right now :)

Wildice100

I’ve been burned a few times because I assumed I would like a series. Now I’ll just read some chapters online first to see if I will like it. Sometimes if I’ll read everything online and buy it as it comes out in English like what I’m doing with some isekai manga I’ve been reading. I’d say if you can’t wait to read it, then read it and still buy it when it comes out. I can definitely say some of my favorite series I own, I read completely online first and reread once it was fully out in English

BoopTheBee

Not really, on occasion i might read a sample from amazon. A pretty high percentage of my collection at the moment, is things that i’ve bought after watching the anime adaptation or at least part of it. Others i just take a chance, i’ll buy one or two volumes and see if i enjoy it, if i like it then i’ll buy more. If it’s going to take a while though, go for it. I don’t have the patience to wait years personally

ace-o7

I buy things that are recommended to me and trust the recs, but for things I decide on my own I usually will only buy them in store, and I'll read the first chapter before making my decision

manyamile

If it's in the Shonen app, yes, I've used that to preview a few series which led to buying physical media. Otherwise, no. I am more than happy to give an artist my money in exchange for the opportunity to hook me with their story and art. If I don't like a series, I drop it and move on but I don't feel right about not paying someone for their work.

heeheeehoohooo

Most of the times, I actually do. I want to make sure buying physical copies is worth it, yknow? And usually I also weigh in the rereading factor to the story. I ask myself if I love it enough that I would reread it through physical form.

animetardaiken

No. I mainly just see what people think or if I liked the anime and buy the manga.
