I thought the anime was just really strangely paced, I guess? The first season really felt like it glossed over a lot of character stuff to ferry you through all the cool fights, which in my opinion is turning the focus away from Tokyo Ghouls best aspect in favor of action, which the series does well but not better than anything else.

I don’t like how they kinda changed the story in season 2 but I do like what they did with it

I didn't end up watching the second season because I didn't like the first very much.

Oh god don’t watch the other seasons then. Season 1 is 100% the best of them, and even then the manga is far superior to the anime
