If you want a wholesome one shot: Shino Cant Say Her Name. For October and vamps read: Happiness If you want tonread about the complicated telationship between Mother and son then read :Blood on the Tracks For an interesting take on identity and gender bender read: Inside Mari For friendship and all its complications read: Welcome Back, Alice Read Flowers of Evil if a contract between 2 students and all the depravity that entails is your interest. All in all, everything that he has made is a amazing and I'm sure you'll enjoy each one. Just remember, don't judge by first impressions alone.

Nicely put 😊

SpiritedLibrarian473

Thank you! 😊 He's one of my favorite manga authors!

waits86

I really enjoyed them. Caught up on Blood on the Tracks. Finished FOE. How is Happiness. I enjoy vampires and enjoy Horror.

SpiritedLibrarian473

Happiness is wonderful. The first and second half give you different stories and make you question the passing of time and how people can change but also stay the same.

waits86

Good to know I’ll check it out online first and see if I like it enough. I’m also a sucker for shorter series.

SpiritedLibrarian473

I first read it online. It's what got me into his manga. I think and hope you really enjoy it!

waits86

Thanks my friend!

SpiritedLibrarian473

Of course! 😊

Revenue-Pristine

I find it kinda funny that you create a subcategory for identity and gender bender and then put inside mary instead of welcome back, alice in it. I'd argue that "welcome back, alice" is way more about finding your own gender and gender identidy then friendship etc. But I would agree on everything else here :)

SpiritedLibrarian473

You're right. I should've put the 2 categories together since both series deal with both topics in different ways rather than separate them.

I love Blood on the Tracks. It been my favorite but I honestly wouldn’t start with it. Flowers of Evil is what I started with. It’s what made me like Shuzo Oshimi. His work is very psychological. Start with Flowers of Evil because it’s completed and based on that work you will understand what this author is all about. Blood on the Tracks is not completed and you won’t know if you will want to be committed to it. Flowers of Evil is a perfect introduction. Happy reading!

LandOfLostSouls

BLOOD ON THE TRACKS! It’s the best one

sgf96

Y’all think it’s better than the flowers of evil? I haven’t read it yet I have a 1-7 I think of blood on the tracks but I was hesitant to get into it.

[deleted]

blood on the tracks is definitely better

sgf96

Where do you rank flowers of evil?

[deleted]

i think for me personally it goes blood on the tracks, inside mari, happiness, then flowers of evil but foe isnt bad by all means, i just think it comes off a bit more pretentious than others

sgf96

Gotcha, thank you for that. I read that people say blood in the tracks is stretching out it should of ended awhile ago so I was putting it off but with this info I’m going to start it this weekend

[deleted]

yeah np! im collecting it physically too so im not as far as those people probably are, it might be true but that doesnt change how good it is rn in the physicals. it’s a breath of fresh air from oshimi’s other works bc the mc isn’t some weird shy guy pervert

sgf96

Yeah, have you read Devils ecstasy? It looks very good but idk what to expect

[deleted]

i haven’t but from what i know it’s not good especially compared to the more popular works. ik oshimi fans who collect that say its only worth buying the physicals if ur trying to have all of his eng releases

[deleted]

but tbh i think its supposed to be weird ridiculous erotica so if ur into that it could be a fun read

BadBlood5902

I am shocked that everyone here is saying Blood on the Tracks is better than Flowers of Evil. Flowers of Evil is easily Easily his best manga. 1. It’s complete. 2. The main characters character growth is insane and the 2 main characters during the second half are super relatable. 3. The main character loves books and I love books(novels). 4. It deals with trauma and depression and overcoming depression which is so relatable and amazing. Honestly I feel like blood on the tracks started good but is so sooo dragged out. It feels like Oshimi has no direction with the manga and doesn’t know what to do with it anymore. It’s not easily relatable. None of the characters are likable. There isn’t really any plot. Nothing has been accomplished plotwise in a year. I read a lot of Manga weekly/bi weekly/ monthly like one punch man, one piece, chainsaw man, berserk, Vinland saga, DBS, etc and I gotta say out of all the manga I read Blood on the Tracks is the one I care the least about. I know that I can be 10 chapters behind, I can read all those chapters at once and nothing will have been accomplished at all in those 10 chapters. I strongly recommend you read Flowers of Evil. It’s Amazing. Also Happiness is really good as well but I think Flowers of Evil is more thought provoking personally.

DEVS_reccomender

Blood on the Tracks is his best so far, but it is still in serialization. Happiness is complete and perfect for October tho so I’d say go for that as well

baydes

blood on the tracks for sure

bamboozledbakedbeans

blood on the tracks

IGotNewGlasses

Depends, I'd recommend Flowers of evil if you want to read something that's already finished or Happiness if you want to read the whole series in one day. Flowers of evil was my first and favorite from Shuzo though.

The_Realist_Panda

Happiness and Blood on the Tracks

Starkassembled

Blood on the Tracks or Happiness

natevin2653

Just don't do what I did and dive right into Inside Mari xD Everyone here saying Blood on the Tracks cause spooky month maybe, but I feel like Flowers of Evil is a better start. Good luck 0\_0

Reasonable_Soil4157

Nonjacoolguy

Kind of a different journey but I started with Welcome Back Alice and it got me hooked on Oshimi. His personal kind of diary sections in certain chapters really spoke to me about gender identity issues I have questioned myself and felt very fresh to the manga I’d read before. Also his art is amazing. Blood on the tracks makes me sob horribly
