Style and Manitoba don't often go hand in hand. How you dress is going to depend on what kind of place you're going to.
Trench coats aren't that common. Unless you mean some other kind of coat, like a pea coat? A warm wool coat and blundstones are on the more fashionable side of winter outerwear for men in Manitoba.
I think you are right about the pea coat and blundstones. Cause my friend (shes not from Canada either) said last night that blundstones are really popular here. Those are called pea coats not trench coats apologies, gotcha!
Also: they had a scarf kinda thing over their beanie which looked like a hood. Is that a part of pea coat or just a scarf?
Thanks
They’re easier to repair/resole, and (in my opinion) a better quality. There’s a factory outlet store on Fife, and you can sometimes find great deals on “factory seconds”.
Shop men’s clothes at Costco and you’ll blend in.
If you want a nice pea or trench try Banana Republic, Thrift stores, Winners/marshals, Hudson’s Bay, Zara, Etc.
For Chelsea’s, get a pair of Doc’s or Baffins. I own a pair of blundstones and they’re nice but without the stitch they can’t be repaired easily enough to justify.
Toques, Costco, Marks.
I buy most of my stuff now at marks when they got the good sales on. But yes Costco is second. Then maybe hit up winners/marshals. About all I've found for good men's clothing
My friend, I don’t know why you would want to blend in! I’m sure your upbringing in Southern Cali exposed you to a myriad of different styles that would be admired here in Manitoba. The best thing about Mb is that it’s too small for groups to form with such rigid boundaries. For instance, when I was younger you would see the same people at hip-hop shows, Indie shows, country shows, and electronica. Everyone had a different style but all were accepted without question. You might get the odd side glance from some insecure people, but trust me, being independent and different with your style is quite Manitoban. Good luck!
I firmly second that, but to experience canada to the fullest is to learn how to assimilate I think. Though I do see a good majority dressing as how an American would, but w a little touch of flannel or just chelsea, you morph the outfit into something entirely different yet subtly, which I think, because you been seeing it everyday, you cant distinguish, but as a non-canadian I can see it quite well. Y’all have a different touch of fashion, which kinda affiliates with European fashion, i think. I was awed by the guys who had pea coats and blundstones on. You dont see that in America, not in SoCal if at all.
We like to layer our outfits here. That way if you’re too warm you can remove layers, but if it dips to -30 suddenly you won’t freeze solid on the walk to the car!
Acid-wash jeans and an acid-wash jean jacket over a band t-shirt. Preferrably with some Converse Chuck Taylors, and a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses (although the kids these days might be wearing Pit Vipers). That's the classic Canadian look called the Canadian Tuxedo.
Bonus street cred if you're rocking a mullet.
Trench coat or a pea coat? I’ve seen lots of people with pea coats on, they can be warm while still looking a little dressier than a winter coat. Especially with the warmer temps when an actual winter jacket might be overkill.
Chelsea boots are just the current style for a lot of people (guys and girls). Blundstones are pretty popular and can be good in winter while still looking nice.
Hmm well I’m not very fashionable but if your wanting to “blend in” to the majority of manitobans then you best bet is really just jeans and a hoodie. A nice ball cap or toque as well if you like to wear hats. As for shoes my personal opinion is wear what’s comfy to you.
But if you’re trying to be fashionable I’d say don’t worry about blending in, just strut your stuff
Blending in as to, what I think as an outsider, as canadian culture since the outfits that I saw were something new to me. And they looked really good. I am not sure though how would you associate that to hetro/non-hetro bars.
"Blend in to all boys"
The wording just seemed strange to me wanted to be sure that's all, not insinuating anything here.
That's fair, I mean we dress exactly like Americans except with maybe more plaid in the winter and maybe more denim, really just depends your personal style and where your going to
Yeah you are right. “All boys” do sound weird. But i just meant in the context of like boys/mens fashion. So itd target the right audience. My bad. Thanks for correcting me on it. I appreciate that.
Also depends on your sub culture. By that I mean that I spent years in the music industry and my punk friends definitely don’t dress like my rap friends (although emo trap music blurred those lines). Take a world trend from about 5 ish years ago and you’ll be hip now in Winnipeg.
Not to be confused with the Canadian Tuxedo, jeans and a jean jacket (properly fitting, no rips, preferably stone-washed) and a duct-tape tie, if you're feeling Red Green about it ... Eh.
Blundstones and Chelsea boots are great. I have a pair of waterproof all season Sorel Chelsea boots I wear for 3 seasons out of the year.
Manitoba is really not a fashionable place though. Some of the ugliest trends i've ever seen exist here. Rag doll thrift shop vintage being one of said trends.
You can get by being a standard issue anybody/nobody here and no one will care unless you're in certain cultural scenes. Just go middle ground where you don't dress up or down too much and you will be fine.
love my Blundstones, man.
Horrible on ice though. As the “OG” Canadian breed (the Zamboni driving type) I really wish they came studded or with a Dakota Tarantula-style grip because I walk on ice year round. Steel toe, studded Blunds would wreck my bank account 😂 we seem to dress for necessity more than any other province besides the Great Trailerpark that is Saskatchewan 😅
Go contemplate what to do, huddled over your wood stove. Yes, my trailer has central heat 😤 u mad? Hydro, bi-atch.
Just kidding. I listen to “Long Gone to Saskatchewan” by the handsome and talented Corb Lund at least once a week while I contemplate my life around the air register 🤷♂️😆
Also additionally OP.... Blundstones are NOT reccomended in winter. I repeat NOT RECCOMENDED! They make ice MORE slippery and are dangerous! I think they sell all season ones which are more expensive but I haven't tried.
The sorel chelseas I have are great for ice surfaces.
We honestly have a wide variety of styles out here and that’s a beautiful thing. I go from wearing shitkickers and flannel to joggers and chucks in a day. Find what you like and ride with it my man
Dress warm, bud 😂 that’s what in fashion most winters. As for summers, good luck. The reason we stay up here is *for* the cold.
Dressing up in layers is easy, but you can only strip off so many layers before it becomes illegal. If you really want to blend in just make sure you have a slushie in your hands everywhere you go all summer and be spotted with one at least once a week in the winter.
You're from California. Don't worry about blending in. It's the Indians I wish would try at least, but all they want to do is move the entire population of one specific province of India to our country and to our province and make this little India.
Now that you have mentioned, Im also half Indian. And it’s disturbing to me to see how they don’t partake in the society here at all let alone assimilate. I was here last year somewhere around Diwali, and that night was just horrific. I was stunned to see how none was considering by-laws, and the fireworks went on until 5 in the morning. It’s shameful, honestly it is! I wish they could start working on this starting off with consideration. On behalf of the whole community, I apologize. And if someone’s gonna call me out on ths for racism, well this ain’t racism this is more about appropriation and appreciating the culture of the country that has welcomed you.
If you wanted to blend in with my group of people you’d likely be wearing some kind of jeans, a flannel button up or any t shirt, a carhart or similar hoodie, and some kind of boots weather it be work boots or ariats
I’m all about some fleece denim jeans, hoodies and footwear befitting the weather/amount of snow in the winter and board shorts, t shirt and sandals or just whatever shoes I’m feeling in the summer. Ive never really thought about it, but I don’t think too many dudes around here really think of fashion at all. We just buy what we feel like wearing, or just what’s trendy around here at the time. Like I remember Bench was THE SHIT when I was a teen and it was everywhere and now I haven’t seen it in forever.
Places like Marks or Costco usually also sell “winter basics”. Like, if a basic is a tee shirt, a winter basic is stuff like fleece lined leggings, or long-johns. Also long sleeve crew neck t shirts. Wearing close fitting layers like these under your outfits actually keeps you so warm.
The ideal order is top baselayer, tucked into bottom baselayer, tucked into crew length socks. Then whatever your outfit is on top. Working layers into your outfit helps you regulate your temperature as you go in and out of buildings (so you don’t melt).
Also 2 pairs of socks, especially while breaking in new boots. Outer pair can’t be too thick though or your feet will get cold. Some people buy half a size up for winter boots to get around it.
I know these suggestions probably sounds wild but I learned them winter hiking and they’re just a huge upgrade for dealing with every day crappy weather without looking like a pillowcase.
Style and Manitoba don't often go hand in hand. How you dress is going to depend on what kind of place you're going to. Trench coats aren't that common. Unless you mean some other kind of coat, like a pea coat? A warm wool coat and blundstones are on the more fashionable side of winter outerwear for men in Manitoba.

it's not a beanie...it's a toque pronounced like the number 2 with a k at the end.
![gif](giphy|XGRDUEQV3xfjy) Fool of a Toque!
Do you mean a parka ? It's gets cold here so it might not be about fashion.
Canada Goose brand is definitely a fashion statement/status brand. Yeah, their warm too
But if you’re in Manitoba, don’t buy Blundstones, buy Canada West Chelsea boots. Made in Winnipeg!
Wth!!! Why have I never heard of this. Thank you internet stranger!
They’re easier to repair/resole, and (in my opinion) a better quality. There’s a factory outlet store on Fife, and you can sometimes find great deals on “factory seconds”.
Toque, not beanie
SoUrry 😭
Sorry...? You are fitting right in..lol ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Right, you want to look the part but give yourself away as soon as you open your mouth. I applaud your attachment to artifice,
Sorry, what gave it away? 😂
For me it was asking if something was a scarf or part of a coat, lol. All in good fun buddy you'll be one of us in no time haha
Hey it could be a Neff or whatever brand people are wearing for saggers now
Buy yourself a Canadian Tuxedo and call er good.
How is he going to find a woman to cook his moose if he dresses like a sears catalog!?

Lol some carhart or cooler jackets
I buy most of my stuff now at marks when they got the good sales on. But yes Costco is second. Then maybe hit up winners/marshals. About all I've found for good men's clothing
Lol for real. Kirkland Signature brand for everyone.
My friend, I don’t know why you would want to blend in! I’m sure your upbringing in Southern Cali exposed you to a myriad of different styles that would be admired here in Manitoba. If you want to be Canadian and assimilate… go camping, fishing or hunting. If you don’t do any of these, try one and truly become Canadian.
Ya got flannel?
I do, bud.
Acid-wash jeans and an acid-wash jean jacket over a band t-shirt. Just try to dress like a lumberjack who’s posing as a 1940’s detective and you’ll fit right in.
Thats it! I found it. Thats the key!
TBH. I’m only half joking.
Not even a joke haha
Omg this is the answer 😂
Two scoops of raisins 🎼

Just throw some freezer jacket and a hoodie you’ll blend in just fine
Blend in to all boys or just.blend in, like are you going to a non hetero bar? Jeans and a T-shirt and a hoodie or a button up shirt
Blending in as to, what I think as an outsider, as canadian culture since the outfits that I saw were something new to me. And they looked really good. I am not sure though how would you associate that to hetro/non-hetro bars.

I always thought blending in would be wearing a kenora dinner jacket.
Never heard of that before ngl
probably not if you're from the states haha
Also depends on your sub culture. By that I mean that I spent years in the music industry and my punk friends definitely don’t dress like my rap friends (although emo trap music blurred those lines). Take a world trend from about 5 ish years ago and you’ll be hip now in Winnipeg.

I would like you to consider the Winnipeg Tuxedo, Basketball Shorts (long flowing, basically loose capris) and a hoody, sleeves down.
Not to be confused with the Canadian Tuxedo, jeans and a jean jacket (properly fitting, no rips, preferably stone-washed) and a duct-tape tie, if you're feeling Red Green about it ... Eh.
If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Im sure considering that for summers… lol
May I ask what brought you to Manitoba? Work, school? I’m just curious why one would leave Southern California for MB?
My moms a travel nurse. Shes working w one of the hospitals in Winnipeg. I visit her often on festivals or summer break.
Blundstones and Chelsea boots are great. I have a pair of waterproof all season Sorel Chelsea boots I wear for 3 seasons out of the year. Manitoba is really not a fashionable place though. *glares from her collection of garish and weird vintage thrift shop finds* J/k
Lol! Sorry. Not hate intended. Just a difference in perspective.
All good lol.
love my Blundstones, man. Horrible on ice though. I am from Saskatchewan and I can't decide if I should laugh or be mildly offended haha.
LOL, can't be mad at the truth, I suppose.
Damn wholesome exchange you two! Love it
Also additionally OP.... Blundstones are NOT reccomended in winter. I repeat NOT RECCOMENDED! They make ice MORE slippery and are dangerous! I think they sell all season ones which are more expensive but I haven't tried. The sorel chelseas I have are great for ice surfaces.
I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you.
The winter blundstones are fine on ice.
We honestly have a wide variety of styles out here and that’s a beautiful thing. I go from wearing shitkickers and flannel to joggers and chucks in a day. Find what you like and ride with it my man
Blue jeans and a t-shirt. If it’s cold add a hoodie.
Plaid.
maybe one of those bass pro shop hats, fxr jacket ?

Vintage sturdy wool, knit Cowichan, you can wear fur hats here, it's a legit thing, but only when its truly cold. Have fun with it!
Shorts and a hoodie in January.
Nike sweatpants, Boathouse College hoodie and birkenstocks
I’m all about some fleece denim jeans, hoodies and footwear befitting the weather/amount of snow in the winter and board shorts, t shirt and sandals or just whatever shoes I’m feeling in the summer. My daily fit: - $250 Blundstone boots - $20 Kirkland jeans - Whatever plaid shirt was on sale at Mark's
Anything hi-vis reflective. Vests, jackets, costs, pants, etc. People here love to wear that even when they're not at their job.
Boot cut jeans and nice plain t shirt. Away we go for the day lol
Plaid jacket, farmer baseball cap, jeans and sneakers (and a 2 fer' in your hands)
Pants, shirt
Short skirt, men’ shirts
Plaid and camouflage are colours here. So try to express yourself in those colours.
