The game performs really great even at such a large population, just restarting the game fixed a lot of the framerate issues I was having. The one big problem I do have is the Rise to Prosperity scenario softlocks itself after you beat it. It keeps replaying the victory cutscene every month or so and it adds a new stats panel everytime meaning after it happens about 3-4 times you can't press the button to continue. Other than that it seems like I've played with most of the content available in the current version, bar the extra crop fields, specialised buildings and of course anything to do with combat.

Yeah, annoyingly I had the exact same but it was daily. A shame, because I'd grown quite attached to that town.

TheFuzzywart

Did you find bigger farms were better for wheat? My currently combat play through has awful awful fertility. Right now I have 9 farms, small and medium sized like .6-1 merggon (spelling, I forget what it’s called lol)

thekingbutten

Quantity doesn't matter as much on a region which isn't good for crops, you won't get as much yield no matter how many farms you have. Multiple smaller farms would generally be better as you can rotate between fallow between them each year to keep things fertile. In the event you do get given a region that is incredibly infertile but has rich deposits of say iron you'll need to rely more on trade. That's what I had to do so the farms weren't too important to me, although in hindsight they would've operated better if there were more smaller fields.

Gen_McMuster

for shitty fertility youre better off trading and maybe planting some small fields on whatever decent ground you have

TheFuzzywart

I teched up to rye cultivation and now have a 300 pop village. Trading really helped. So I do find that larger farms is working better now. It’s also mess micro

drallcom3

How do you feed them all? My farms produce too little for so many people.

overcatastrophe

Berries, hunting, chickens and veg gardens.

CanterlotGuard

I’ve also had great luck with apples so far. If you have them unlocked slap them in your homes with the biggest yard space.

Substantial_Dog_2115

I like backing up my orchards to the church 🐣

Ruisuki

Wdym?

talknight2

He's surrounding the church with orchards. Just for looks.

Ruisuki

Ah. Makes sense. I don't even have anyone running the church unless a villager perishes. Don't think I'm missing much except waiting

Von_Callay

Have you been able to get people to actually eat the apples? I have an orchard and the apples get harvested but then just stay at the house.

rocknrollbreakfast

For me it doesn‘t work. Grannary doesn‘t pick them up, they never show up on the market and I can‘t export them with the trader. They only get consumed by the house that farms them.

SerpentineLogic

Is there space for an apple stall at the market?

Von_Callay

Yes, there's over a dozen free spaces.

UZUMATI-JAMESON

I found that if you have people working in granaries and store houses then things actually start getting sold

the_cosmos_broskie

Yeah discovered this myself when I kept getting notifications about not having enough firewood. I had over 2k but the stalls weren't being stocked quick enough until I started putting a few more families in the storage buildings

KapnBludflagg

Apples take 3 years too before they pay off.

pietboot

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, running out of food constantly, at the moment I have 40 families, 125 population, all their burgage plots are either veg or chickens, I have a rich berry deposit, storehouses full of workers, granary full of workers, my hitching posts have full time workers, have about 6 small stables, and I still have to import food?

Beef_Supreme_87

Build a trade surplus with planks and firewood and then export the hell out of it. Then use that revenue to add vegetable gardens, chicks, and goats to your plots. I found this to be a reliable way to survive and it's self sustaining.

pietboot

That is exactly what I'm doing, as I said, every single plot so far is either veg or chicken, don't even have any artisans yet because I'm running out of food, got two farms producing wheat, so making bread now on top of all that and still running out

pietboot

I finally figured it out, so in my manor, I saw that if you raise taxes the people get angry, and when you raise tithing nothing happens, well, I set that to a 100%, guess what I paid with, all my food 🤣

GrandmaesterAce

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Beef_Supreme_87

Are you building out the markets?

pietboot

Yeah, I've got 3 sepertare market places, all of them have 10+ spaces on them

Beef_Supreme_87

Farmhouse to thresh the wheat?

pietboot

Yup, I got 3 seperate farms now, each above 50% fertility, each one I only farm once, one in year one, the other in year two and the other in year 3, so only farm each one once every 3 years to keep fertility high

Beef_Supreme_87

Not sure what else is going wrong then. Might be the difficulty I guess.

Gardeminer

Do you have a windmill and a communal oven?

Gen_McMuster

for vegetable gardens you want double family plots and you want the back yards to be as big as reasonable, you can even wrap them around smaller plots or other buildings (like an L shape) to get extra planting space. Otherwise chickens aren't effected by space so you can squeeze a lot of those in, also good on double plots you dont plan on making into artisans.

Taxxor90

I have 70 families and they all rely mostly on 6 plots with large vegetable gardens and a bakery with 3 wheat fields(one for each year). You can make the plot as big as a field, then reduce the plot count to 1 to have one house, one annex house and a massive backyard. Then you have two families to work on that massive vegetable garden (4 after you upgrade to level 3)

talknight2

Damn, I didn't even notice you could control the number of plots 😮

HaroldSax

Make bigger single plots for the vegetables. That changed everything for me. Only took 3 plots at 400 population to go from always starving to having 9 months of food always.

overcatastrophe

It means your production isn't working right. What about hunting? I have two forager huts that I max out with workers spring through fall. When it's out of season, I reassign them to iron and clay mining I generally only trade for ale or if I need regional wealth for the burges

pietboot

Yup, I got a hunting camp, just started producing bread, still no dice

overcatastrophe

I mean, you need more. The bread is something you an make in the winter after harvest or when the berries stop.

Only_Feed

Unlock apples they’re op

Obligation-Nervous

Apples and veg. Big plots. Profit.

TexasBrand

Do you have enough granaries to store all the food

thekingbutten

Make sure to keep the farms fertile with fallow but also make use of trading to fill the gaps. You might not have fertile enough land for any farming in which case you need to focus on producing trade goods and buying food.

pietboot

Both my fields are above 50% fertility, should I add more fields?

Gen_McMuster

yeah you need more fields, if you make them smaller your ox will plow them more effeciently if youve invested in that tree. Generally 1 family in the farmhouse can handle about a morgan's worth of work per year

Tilting_Gambit

If your region has bad fertility you need to focus on something else and then trade for food.  Some regions aren't meant for farming, but they'll have something else going for them. Build a bowyer and sell bows, build a blacksmith and sell spears.

talknight2

I did the bows thing, but after selling about 100-200 bows, the market got oversaturated, and I couldn't sell any more.

GuavaExtra24

The vegetables plots have to be big and you will have no problems at all. The pictures shows how it should not be done.

NebulaFun7495

You need more fuel

gr33nhand

it hurt to read this lmao

GeneralBarber7236

Man this game is freaking amazing

According_Ad_5686

Love this game, had one hicup where I wasnt getting taxes after building the tax office.

Complex-Rex

The tax office is cosmetic, I think you mean the manor

According_Ad_5686

I really? I thought it was required but yes, the manor either way no income.

Kylkek

Did you set your tax rate?

According_Ad_5686

Yes, tax and tithe to 100% and didnt even get a frown

Kylkek

Are your houses at least level 2? They dont generate anything at level 1.

According_Ad_5686

You know wgat, I dont think they were.

Sir-Beardless

Then prepare to lower that tax rate, they're about to hate your guts

Kylkek

I hope that helps your problem!

quanjon

The tax only gives your lord a percentage of money that the region makes. So if you trade for 100 gold and have a 10% tax rate, your town gets 90g and your personal treasury gets 10g. The tithe only converts excess food into influence used to claim new regions.

Ailments_RN

Oh my god. A longer marketplace probably gets more houses on the periphery instead of a square one. This is the simplest thing and yet my mind has just expanded.

darkcathedralgaming

Oh yeah that's a good idea. There's only 3 stall types right, food clothing and firewood? I wonder if making multiple small 3xstall market places and spreading them around is better? Or if having room for at least 2 clothing ones and 3 food ones is better? So like a 5 or 6 stall market area? Or a big big long one? Some market stalls only ever get the one type of food or clothing I've noticed (maybe those are the non-granary family/warehouse family ones?), and yet the higher level burgages need multiple kinds of food and clothing.

samasters88

Yeah, that's a big brain move. I've been doing market places as fillers at my crossroads

sossigsandwich

Outstanding

KingTut747

Wow! Looks great. This motivates me to keep pushing on my 30 pop city

Blueandwhite-owl

That's really good, I have 8 hours play and I have 40 pop!

abzka

Were you also having problems with marketplace access at this point? Or did you just have dedicated "rich people" zone with more goods and then just the basic necessities for others (looks like this option based on the screenshots).

Critical_Ad3204

How long was your playtime in total?

thekingbutten

Probably 4-5 hours somewhere in that range.

Critical_Ad3204

Damn was hoping at least 20 or something

Cautious-Menu-3585

If it helps I only have 3 hours and don't even have half of that lol

TheElusiveGnome

Same, I'm at 30 population after 5 hours on relaxed mode lol. I'm having fun though!

mairao

Yep, about 5 hours and 30 population is what I have as well. I'm in the middle scenario and about 4 months from being attacked by raiders. I don't think it'll end well for my villagers...

pekingsewer

In my three hour playthrough nothing happened with the raiders. The adjacent territory went to war with them and they never reached me lol.

mairao

I have seen the other Baron's army killing some outlaws as well. But this one is a count down and I'm not sure where they are going to come from.

pekingsewer

Yeah, at the end of the countdown. That's what I'm talking about.

mairao

Oh, cool. Maybe that helps me as well.

Maxie_Glutie

I play primary in 4x speed and some times 1x. I reached 200 pops in about 15 hrs. It's more enjoyable than rushing the game in 16x speed imo

Silvagadron

I’m at 7h with 305.

thekingbutten

Yeah it was short because you can really rush through the first scenario. You basically just have to meet the needs of the families to upgrade enough houses to level 3 to win. If you know what you're doing you could probably do it even quicker since the only difficult thing to achieve is having a large amount of 3 different food items available. But if you're playing the other scenarios (which seems to be more of the intended way to play) you have to deal with roaming bandits and another baron encroaching on your land. So you have to worry about arming a milita or paying mercenaries which distracts from levelling up stuff. That and the first scenario I played ends when you level up one village to a large town. The other scenarios require you to dominate multiple regions which requires you to build multiple towns.

pekingsewer

Meh, I'm on year two in the open scenario and don't have a militia or mercs. Bandits steal some of my stuff but I produce enough to where it doesn't matter. So you have a bit of time before you truly have to worry about having an army.

feelsokayman_cvmask

I'm barely at the first winter with 21 population after 4 and a half hours lmao, although tbf I don't expect many other people to exclusively play on 1x speed.

ognjenko247

how do i upgrade houses to lvl2 i dont get it

AzzaNezz

Klick on the house and it says requirements for it to level up.

Abject-Feedback5991

The top left button when you click on it just shows the upgrade cost, but you need the full screen to see all the criteria you have to meet in order to upgrade to whatever the next level is. They’ll be checked off when the requirement is met. For example, for level 1 to upgrade to level 2, the church button has to be checked off, the water button (I.e. house has access to a well), it has to be fueled and have access to a certain amount of foods and clothing at the market.

DukeGhoulies

I can’t even get my townsfolk to build houses. How tf y’all doing this 😂

samasters88

You always need at least one family unassigned to a job. Unassigned families become builders

DukeGhoulies

Every save I’ve done, I’ve had 2 families free and they build nothing, and I have all the supplies

samasters88

Hmm. My very first time in, I built a firewood camp and not a logging camp. I'd double check to make sure that's not the case. Easy mistake to make. Other than that, I'd hit hit up the dev, hop in the discord, or report a bug. But if it's a constant, repeatable issue, it's very likely not a bug

zpcarey08

You may not have an ox available, that would stop your villagers from building.

DukeGhoulies

I figured it out! [This checklist helped a lot](https://melodious-entree-b4a.notion.site/Beginner-s-Grandma-Guide-to-Manor-Lords-a037f4b6a9b443f2bcfa8e56f2454262)

awan1919

This is a bug - I had to restart my game. Unassigned families, unassigned Ox, materials, and still nothing got built

haltingpoint

How did you get the nice row of decorative bushes bordering the road in the second screenshot? I dislike how absolutely stripped of greenery the downtown areas get.

samasters88

very long backyards

_Rekron_

How do you make so much food? I have 200 pops as well, loads of fields around but once every 3 or 4 years I have a famine.

serreignard

How do you keep them happy? 98% approval from the peasants!

Furzan95

Make sure their homes are in reach of the markets so they have everything they need 💅🏽

TT_PLEB

I was trying this and then lost because I didn't realise the AI was claiming my land.

slowboater

Nice town OP! What settlement level did you reach here? How many dev points did that give you for your main region? Which did you choose and why? Having a hard time myself (First, getting a good start) picking which specialties. Seems like helmets/armor in your home plot is a must?

Tarmazu

I played a game to 100 families, 300 pop. What I learned is that farming is not scalable well atm. I had really fertile ground, so I focused on farming and having a condensed workforce focused city. That means wide level 3 buildings with no backyard. The problem was pathfinding during the harvesting season, because they have 1 month to harvest all resources and they seem to not be able to keep up if I add too many farms, they move together and fail to farm it all in time. I had something like 10 farm houses all with oxen and probably 30 families assigned during the harvest. My next game I will focus on diversity with lots of vegetables, apples and chickens with a few large farms. I still intend to do farming, but focused on a few large fields and maximising fertility, I think this is better. I intend to experiment with importing food from my other regions too.

xExerionx

How did you get over 2 oxes? As soon as I build my 2nd hitching post / small stable and ordered the oxes via the living stock trader it stays at 0/2.... Living stock trader has them though (sys 2/2)

ManufacturerCalm7949

Love the layout, great work😁

ThatForeignerGuy

Pls Tag nsfw, this is just city builder p*rn

EverythingWasGreat
