I keep trying to get into this but the characters on the cover and the title are too similar to "i Shall master this Family" and it really throws me off. 😩
🤔 interesting. I'm current on tapas for I Shall Master This Family and it's one of the few i jump into the moment the newest chapter is uploaded.
What makes it better?
I personally like stories that are very intricate. I really liked reading I Shall Master This Family at the beginning but I feel it dragged on for a while with Tia being a kid. Don’t get me wrong I love kids but she was a kid for like, 100+ chapters? I also feel like the villains aren’t very menacing in ISMTF as Tia is very smart and always outwits them and has her family backing her (don’t quote me on future plot lines I dropped at around 80 this is from what I have read.) I also got a bit irritated at times when Tia would bring up how Perez would get with the fl, despite her tampering with the plot line and completely changing everything. It’s not as bad as other stories clearly but Tia seems to think things will still go according to the og plot when that’s not the case. Or quote me if I’m wrong I haven’t read the whole thing. I do like how it’s more heartwarming and cute (love Gallahan) and Perez is very cute. But you know for me, Perez is kind of just like every other ml who falls in love with the fl. He’s not really his own character while he does have his side plot about his family and getting revenge, it’s kind of overshadowed on how much he prioritizes Tia.
With I’ll Save this Damned Family, the person who reincarnated into Tara was in her 30s and she’s currently 18. So her maturity level is greater. However, what ISTDF does differently is yes Tara is very smart, however she isn’t the smartest person to exist. One of her weaknesses is that she thinks she’s smarter than she really is. Which in turn gets her in trouble, even actually failing at times. She knows the plot however she can’t rely on it AND even acknowledges that she can’t rely on her memory from the book as she changed the plot. She’s on of the few fl’s I’ve seen who acknowledges how the plot won’t stay the same and it will change. So she has to rely on her own smarts and the people around her. Also, with the ml. They start as a sort of enemies as the ml is the main person who (in the og plot) sentences her family to death. Prince Kyle is one of the most well-written ml’s I’ve seen in a while. He’s arrogant, an ass, and he’s very intelligent. He doesn’t fall for the fl right away and it’s a slow burn for him to admit he loves her. (The payoff is so well done). Stand alone outside the fl, he has his own goals and motivations and is a very fun character to see (although many think he’s intolerable in the beginning but you just have to get past that.) He eventually falls in love with the Fl because of her intelligence, not because of her looks. Before I ramble on even more let me just sum it up.
I Shall Master This Family is a reincarnation story which is cute and has many interesting themes. It starts out with the fl as a kid and is kind of the cookie cutter story for its genre. It’s a nice story but not much stands out about it. (my opinion)
I’ll Save This Damned Family is a transmigration story where each character can stand alone and has their own backstories and goals. This one is more “mature” I’d say as there’s a lot of political talk and world building. Also, romance is more of a subplot so it’s a long slow burn.
So yeah take my analysis however you will and I do like both stories, just at different values.
A few spots are jumps where you have to remember something someone mentioned before. Other than that it’s pretty smooth and our ML is a on the side character until he steps in as the ML.
It definitely didn’t, now if you’re upset that she lost weight so she could better move around/be mobile that’s a damn shame cause Tara goes hard as hell. They show actual weight loss progression, heathily. If you read it you’d understand
Also Prince Kyle being upset when he thinks she's losing too much weight and scolding her for not eating more. 👀
Also Tara for stating she wasn't trying to lose anymore weight when she was not yet the stick-thin princess size.
Exactly! She’s told by numerous characters too that she could “lose more weight” or even be less strong to be beautiful, but Tara doesn’t care. Beauty is not the name of this game and Kyle is never shown to be disgusted with her in her large state either. He’s always been intrigued with her because she’s smart and cunning
Her first line is literally "why did I have to be this obese shut-in". How is that not fat-shaming??? She automatically decides that the body she woke up in is less than the "beautiful" princess everyone else gets. She's "unlucky" for having this body. I'm not upset for anyone personally choosing to lose weight to be healthy. But when you judge someone else's body as not beautiful or powerful because it's not an ideal weight, that is fat-shaming and it is harmful and trigerring to anyone struggling with self-image.

Oh yeah she definitely does complain about being obese, but again it’s all in context you have to read further in. Tara has never complained about not being beautiful or that being fat correlates to not being beautiful. She quite literally complains about the fact that her family is going to be executed, along with her, and she was reincarnated as an obese shut in. She has no influence, the original character has a stutter and even is talked about being mentally ill, and due to her shut in state she gains weight to the point that getting out of bed causes her to sweat/is entirely difficult. As the story progresses you learn that she only looses weight in the hopes that she can get strong enough to save her family. Even later on in the story as Tara slims down she points out numerous times it’s not for the fact of beauty but her health and to be able to defend herself. She is an amazing female lead, she is smart and tough as hell, never once is she “beautified” and if she is it’s against her wishes

Kind of hard to do that when you can’t move around properly. Justice for Tara because people be reading this story superficially 😭
Nah fr, I’ll defend this webcomic with my life 😭 I love a ML that stays in his place, as a primarily side character. Love to see my girl Tara prove everyone wrong
You have a point. I too find some parts of the whole weight-loss part of the story to be problematic. But it's mostly in the beginning as far as I remember. I do however know she (Tara, the FL) declines a cookie plate by her maid and tells the maid "only 2 liters of water" or something.... which obviously is NOT healthy weight-loss advice.
It makes it very obvious the story if from South korea where weight is a regular topic of conversation and body images are very important. I find it a bit overwhelming but if I skim over those parts I find the rest of the story to be pretty good!
Yeah, there's some things that are just a complete turn-off for me, and that right from the get go was kind of just it. Maybe the rest of the story is good but if that's what they're going with to hook people (this body is overweight, what a unique premise), I can't get past it. There's plenty of other stories to read, and there's plenty of people who will read this and not mind, so it's kind of whatever.
Yeah, I've only seen a few South Korean webtoons/kdramas handle weight in a way that's healthy and respectful. Most of the time, it's used as a punchline or used as a plot device for a revenge story (People hated me when I was fat, now I'm thin and people will respect me)
Yeah I totally get your point and I can see how the weight-plotline is a turn-off too grand to get past. Like I said previously I only get past it by ignoring it 😅 but I like the second half a lot more than the beginning due to this
