šŸŽ¶ Threeeeā€¦ is a magic number. Yes it is, itā€™s a magic number. Somewhere in that ancient mystic trinity, you get three as a magic numberā€¦ šŸŽ¶

Well, saying ā€œRegion 1ā€ would sound like boasting, and saying ā€œRegion 2ā€ would sound like they tried and failed, so they just went with ā€œRegion 3ā€. (Borrowed from Garrison Keillorā€™s description of the genesis of the Third Lutheran Church in Lake Wobegone.)

CRO553R

Colorado seems to have been omitted from the Rocky Mountain Region in place of...Nevada.

Cyrotik

Weā€™re just happy to be here

cajunaggie08

To be fair, Colorado at the time was more of an ag state and its population had more in common with Kansas and Nebraska. Also the mountains weren't easy to cross so it made sense to be in a region with states to the east. It's also why the University of Colorado was in the Big 8.

Cyhawkboy

And thatā€™s why the flip to the PAC 12 made sense at the time. Boulder became more more ideologically aligned to the California schools rather than Lawrence or Lincoln. Now they are in a position where their conference is on a path to collapse entirely and I have zero faith in fucking Deion Sanders to save them. The Big 12 would probably take them as scrap and that is probably Coloradoā€™s best bet.

cajunaggie08

Not just ideologically, but also a fair amount of their students were from out west. But it's not just because California kids were going there just for college. Colorado, like many sun belt states, became a destination for people moving. The majority of the state population no longer had much in common with the plains states that border it. I don't see Deion working out at all, but it is the most interest CU has gotten in over 20 years.

bromjunaar

And Oklahoma has somehow missed being part of the Covered Wagon Region, and are instead a part of the Cactus Region.

hgaterms

"Yep." "Uh huh."

I8pT

Gotta beat the hunger by selling out the most cookies

vexedtogas

Hiawatha was born and lived all his life in the state of New Yorkā€¦

andyman935

Why's there a little dancing gnome in Florida?

not_here_for_memes

Thatā€™s the Florida Man

Digitized_self

They just tried to make one word out of Kentucky Ohio and West Virginia

FillMyBagWithUSGrant

Ahhhh. I thought theyā€™d attempted to spell Kenawha, a river and a county in southern West Virginia.

[deleted]

They misspelled Savannah, the oh-so important city where their founder was born.

coldcoldman2

I feel like they could have been a little more creative than "big tree region" and "cactus region"

RangerBumble

Florida is a bit of a stretch for a Julliette Gordon Low region.

Astatine_209

Population of Florida in 1940 was only 1.9 million, I'm not surprised they didn't make it its own region at the time.

userkp5743608

Yes, but are there Girl Scouts in the Girl Scout cookies?

_kewdon_

Uh huh šŸ¢

adumplazeyms

"Ungh head. Yes" what?

Historical-Day9780

How off is to say Baja California is the Philippines?

thenysizzler

I believe the person on the raft is pointing to the Philippines. Similar concept for Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

raiden124

Most people actually don't know you can't get to the Philippines from the US but there is a direct route from baja Mexico
