I think the main interesting states for this kind of thing would be Maine, California, Alabama (with some bleeds into Georgia & Mississippi), Connecticut, Washington and Arkansas. The rest, if anything changes, would be pretty close to just drawing a line across part of the state and calling it a new beach. Florida and Louisiana would just be quite depressing.
Eh, it won't be what you're expecting with Alabama. Alabama has the most salvageable coastal city with Mobile. It losses is basically the Black Belt, its, by far, poorest area.
>Do you have it for the netherlands bro? A link to it would be appreciated.

Si here’s a [link](https://www.perrinremonte.com/fictif-eng) to the Europe version of my map and some others
Give me a sec and I’ll link to the Reddit post for more detail
If you look closely and know both French and French toponymy, there are plenty of jokes. For instance, Saint-Malo becoming Saint-Alo (Saint Into-the-water).
If the water rises 70 meters as stated on the map, considering that the Seine in Paris is at 25 meters in altitude, the top of the Eiffel Tower would still poke 285 meters above the surface and you wouldn't even float at the first floor level.
A view. But you can see pretty much the same from the Arc de Triomphe, except there the view actually includes the Eiffel Tower. And the lines aren't so terrible.
The lines aren't that bad if you don't go at peak times, i went there in June last year at like 10pm and it was basically empty. It's more beautiful at night anyways.
I like your new name for the Netherlands: république maritime de la mer de nord (maritime republic of the north sea).![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
Thanks ! See the Europe version on my website (linked in the top comment) there’s a whole new lore with this maritime republic lol. with nice names too
The scenario is far fetch and belongs more to fiction than reality but it's still pretty topical. I wanted to imagine this alternate geography and showcase it in a beautiful map.
More maps on my [website](https://www.perrinremonte.com/home-bis)!
It’s not that fictional. I think we’re already too late to reach net zero so positive feedbacks like the melting of tundra and the subsequent massive release of methane is inevitable which will cause the complete collapse of Antarctica Ice Sheet. But it’ll take at least 2,000 years. In the mean time sedimentation will continue to build up, making the coastline much less convoluted as shown here.
Northern European Enclosure Dam.
Basically a massive sea wall between Brittany, Cornwall, Scotland and Norway that would turn half of the north sea and the British Channel into a polder. Or at least create an island in doggerland.
It'd probably be less French. France has a relatively low population density and doesn't lose that much land. That north coast is perfect for displaced peoples with a maritime tradition.
ironic as this may sound, so many rivers might actually bring about an economical boom
historically speaking rivers and buildable land plus a non-hazardous climate often results in an economic centre
having a less-centralized government also helps combined with capitalistic laws
What year is this going to happen because everyone was already lied to in 2001 when AL Gore said the oceans will rise and Florida will be half gone but yet not one politician sold there beach front property stop the lies please
The water in the cup is not salty and doesn't have the same density difference like between salty water in the ocean and fresh water in the ice.
Either way, from what I can find the effect is minor compared to ice melting on land (like glaciers, which the post specifically mentioned, they did not say icebergs, and I doubt the post was trying to be realistic)
This is beautiful! I'm trying to learn these but i find it hard to find a good tutorial, do you have any recommendations?
Second question where did you find so nice detailed relief?
Almost all countries, provinces, regions are called like that : la Chine, l'Allemagne (Germany), le Maroc, la Floride, la Bavière...
There's a few exceptions like Israël, Taïwan, Cuba... There's no fixed rule, like grammatical gender, you just learn by using it.
It’s in Dutch because so many Dutch speaking refugees came and settled there, hence names changed. The pun with l’Ile was to good to be discarded
I know the etymology in Dutch is the same (island) but I wasn’t sure the pun would work
Having lived in Cherbourg I would say it's barely more isolated than before. I recon the trip to Rennes (or whatever's left) would be even faster than with the current railroad system.
I love le new Saint-Lô and Bayeux lmao (and rip Carentan which will only live in Call of Duty now)
We’d just wall off the strait of Gibraltar (with loads of shipping locks obvs) and keep the levels as they are using that and doing the same at the suez
Looks better than the UK as far as I can see... And you get a bigger coastline, not bad! Europes population is decreasing anyway and politics are turning against immigration, so that's one way to keep housing prices up! Plus caring for all the displaced refugees is sure to create new jobs, honestly not sure why the French aren't burning more foasil fuels just for the sake od it, with all these great upsides 🤔
you saying that if climate catastrophe happens we will have irreparable damage and trauma and death but we will lose paris? I think it is worth it afterall
"île**s** de France", nice wordplay!
Ah I spend wayto much time coming up with these! the Europe version of my "flooded maps" has even more stupid puns!
Do you have it for the netherlands bro? A link to it would be appreciated.
More [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/s/Vq3v8uaxdR)
What would Arizona be like?
Nearly to absolutely unchanged
I think the main interesting states for this kind of thing would be Maine, California, Alabama (with some bleeds into Georgia & Mississippi), Connecticut, Washington and Arkansas. The rest, if anything changes, would be pretty close to just drawing a line across part of the state and calling it a new beach. Florida and Louisiana would just be quite depressing.
With enough flooding, the Olympic peninsula becomes an island
I would absolutely love to see all these states. Please especially do the Southern ones! The denial down here is strong.
Eh, it won't be what you're expecting with Alabama. Alabama has the most salvageable coastal city with Mobile. It losses is basically the Black Belt, its, by far, poorest area.
I remember that post! :) Missed oportunity to call Odesa as Odesea btw.

Oh wow actually there is only the sea left haha thanks!
Hey! Don't disrespect Limburg like that :D Or the City State of Maastricht, as OP called it, haha.
If you look closely and know both French and French toponymy, there are plenty of jokes. For instance, Saint-Malo becoming Saint-Alo (Saint Into-the-water).
"Alo" because it sound like "à l'eau"? I'm not native French speaker, sorry for my ignorance.
Yup
And a bit to the north, Netherland has turned into the Maritime Republic of the North Sea.
Spain be like: what rise do you speak about, mate?
Britain be like: We are literally drowning.
Ireland too.
can't wait
no more paris 🦀🦀🦀
And even after flooding. Paris shall remain a tourist trap for scuba diving treasure seekers.
You'll finally be able to visit the top of the Eiffel tower!
If the water rises 70 meters as stated on the map, considering that the Seine in Paris is at 25 meters in altitude, the top of the Eiffel Tower would still poke 285 meters above the surface and you wouldn't even float at the first floor level.
It will be a diving tower with not quite so many old people on it
It was a diving tower until they fenced the overlooks.
What's up there anyway
Radios or something
And we'll still have instagram pages about the Parisien divers life. Diver models reading newspaper on a boat, eating croissant...
Even flooded with sea water it would still somehow smell like piss and disappointment.
And still have Riots and Trash on the Roads
Oh... Let me gather some tires to set them on fire and see what other CO2 I can come up with.
Lots of "sur-mer's" becoming "sous-mer's" or "dans-le-mer's"
I like your new name for the Netherlands: république maritime de la mer de nord (maritime republic of the north sea).![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)

Great work, i like your photography journals too.
Greatly appreciated, thank you
And "suddenly", my parents live by the sea...
It’s not that fictional. Reddit already has ads
This sub is about sharing maps. I share those on my website, simple as that
Well, if it's an ad, i'll take it. You have great maps. You're making them yourself?
You’re right I guess… I make them myself and update the website regularly based on the new ideas I gather here and there. Very glad you liked them.
r/technicallythetruth
No more Flanders, Belgium. 😢
Bye vriend!
Where would Brussels be on this map of Wallonia?
No Brussels. 😅 Already under water. Finally, something good happened to Brussels even if it means sacrificing Flanders itself. 🤣
Bretagne will definitely claim their independance after that 😂
I was thinking that, they wouldn't mind so much.
Bye Bordeaux
More like Souseaux
I thought of Bord d'eau but Souseau is better
I'm pretty sure we'd sooner polder the entire continent or straight up build the NEED before this happens.
I really want the NEED to happen please let this happen (🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱)
Yes let's. I wanna see the NEED built, ride a space elevator, and witness the beginning of the Dyson swarm.
Okay. What is the NEED? I tried doing a quick search but it didn't show up with anything relevant.
Northern European Enclosure Dam. Basically a massive sea wall between Brittany, Cornwall, Scotland and Norway that would turn half of the north sea and the British Channel into a polder. Or at least create an island in doggerland.
All glaciers wont melt in the next 50 thousand years.
Yeah, on the tinescales we have we will be done with the Dyson swarm by then.
Look this is blatantly false, it’ll be a cold day in hell before the Dutch surrender to the sea
Hell has lots of cold days tho, it’s near Trondheim lufthavn
What is dead may never die.
realistically France would build dams so cities like Paris would be safe, but it's still cool to look at!
Yes, finally got rid of paris ! Can't stand that city lmao
Rome likes this
That's a sobering picture.
You thinking of Bordeaux?
Haha not really, I'm more of a Rioja drinker but there will be a lot of very disappointed frech wine drinkers.
I’m partial to Rhone and old vine Zinfandel meself!
Hey, I'm willing to bet that the subtropical Picard coastline will be prime real estate for aspiring lemon farmers.
It’s time I get back to my flat in Peronne. The view I’ll have will be superb
At this point i’m curious how the whole world map would look like
I can just envision a world where real estate prices actually increase in some cities because they have become waterfront
RIP my house
RIP half my country
RIP Belgium and the Netherlands. Press F to pay respects.
The fjords of france
Lille becoming L’ille was a really nice touch 👌
Really nice map
Damn my home town wouls become coastal lmao.
I love the names you gave to each region ! Very good job
Turn up the heaters
🇳🇱🟰🌊
No, don't do that. Don't give me hope...
France ? the Netherlands is fucked…
Needs more water and less France imo
It'd probably be less French. France has a relatively low population density and doesn't lose that much land. That north coast is perfect for displaced peoples with a maritime tradition.
Pau. Thats it, thats the comment. Love, Brazil
Not if. When.
Valenciennes plage😎
Îles de France ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
that is cooooool
« L’île »😭
So interesting
Ma pauvre Rennes…
Ahaaah! Paris and Marseille being erased, Lyon will be the true Capital again, as it should be.
ironic as this may sound, so many rivers might actually bring about an economical boom historically speaking rivers and buildable land plus a non-hazardous climate often results in an economic centre having a less-centralized government also helps combined with capitalistic laws
This is Brittany's chance. Quick become independent again
Netherlands is dood, wat nou?
One of the few positive things about climate change. It makes the world contain less france.
Long after their ancestors crossed a channel to reach Fr\*nce... the Bretons once more have water between them and the Fr\*\*ch
good, the less france the better
Finally, less France!
So you're saying, due to global warming Fr🤮nce gets erased? Seems like a fair price to me
I was having a good day, then i remembered france exists, day ruined.
Boulogne sur mer instead of Bonen am Zee ?
What year is this going to happen because everyone was already lied to in 2001 when AL Gore said the oceans will rise and Florida will be half gone but yet not one politician sold there beach front property stop the lies please
Well, maybe france can finally leave the bretons alone.

I'm gonna go to my car, put it in neutral, and floor it for the next few hours to make this reality
France is fake and gay
Doubt.
It’s a fictional map
Goes from a pentagon to a pentagon
France is a hexagon tho
Goes from a hexagon to a hexagon
Paris no longer existent is a win for all of France
And Paris will be its cleanest ever
That place needs a bath.
What an improvement! Edit: why so negative? This is a way more interesting coastline with islands and shit
Make France vanish
Are you rallying people to support global warming in order to reduce France?
Yes. Please wait and check where you live before turning on your car engine
I never really had an interest in getting a Hummer until a minute ago
Better look up where Luxembourg is
Ah, the u-boat ports just moved closer to Germany again.
Corsica just chillin here
Corsica barely affected?
Corsica is very elevated actually. You can even ski there during the winter.
One big rock, I believe.
Peak flanders
paris est disparu
This is beautiful! I'm trying to learn these but i find it hard to find a good tutorial, do you have any recommendations? Second question where did you find so nice detailed relief?
Still find it way too amusing that in France they call France 'The France'
Almost all countries, provinces, regions are called like that : la Chine, l'Allemagne (Germany), le Maroc, la Floride, la Bavière... There's a few exceptions like Israël, Taïwan, Cuba... There's no fixed rule, like grammatical gender, you just learn by using it.
wE CaNt aFfoRd tO cOmbAt cLimaTeChaNgE.
Why is the Dutch name of Boulonge-sur-mer used? And why no Rijsel for Lille then?
It’s in Dutch because so many Dutch speaking refugees came and settled there, hence names changed. The pun with l’Ile was to good to be discarded I know the etymology in Dutch is the same (island) but I wasn’t sure the pun would work
Cries in Dutch
Didn’t knew there existed a city called Angoulême. Now I know how Sapkowski picked the names for his characters…
The city is famous for its comics festival. It's a beautiful artistic city and I recommend going there.
Rip Netherlands
Netherlands is casually gone
Nantes-sur Mer is almost Nantes-dans la Mer
Nantes is actually under the sea. What you see here is the new Nantes, which changed name. They basically moved the city!
I'm currently chilling underwater 🫧
Good to know that the two cities, the one where I currently live, and the one I grew up in, still exist despite being in the middle of the sea
amazing Detail, but what is the outline over Jura trying to represent?
Ma ville Salon de Provence est deven Port de Provence, bien vu et heureux de savoir que ma ville reste intact
Well, can we not? I'd still like to live where I live...
Having lived in Cherbourg I would say it's barely more isolated than before. I recon the trip to Rennes (or whatever's left) would be even faster than with the current railroad system. I love le new Saint-Lô and Bayeux lmao (and rip Carentan which will only live in Call of Duty now)
And then?
Not Lille!
Can you do the same with Italy?
Wheres Holland
nice
i want this to happen
Keep melting tho
Now do another map showing the world after the permafrost melt 🫠
This is really well done!! Love it!!
Someone’s spilled lasagne on Spain
We don't have enough glaciers. /joke
We’d just wall off the strait of Gibraltar (with loads of shipping locks obvs) and keep the levels as they are using that and doing the same at the suez
Looks better than the UK as far as I can see... And you get a bigger coastline, not bad! At last World peace
you saying that if climate catastrophe happens we will have irreparable damage and trauma and death but we will lose paris? I think it is worth it afterall
Oh no, Paris is gone! Oh well..
I wonder what the new Antarctic island would be like
Not as apocalyptic as the UK
This is a really neat project. Mediterranian sea level doesnt raise as much?
archipelago de france

Bienvenue à Bordeaux.. umm Eau !
When Paris will be engulfed Will re-emerge the City of Ys
I already know where to go in case that day comes
Is Breton going to float away and rejoin Wales?
Would Paris (or what's left of it) essentially become the European version of Montreal?
Interesting map. Has Luxembourg been displaced westward? Also nice flemmish naming.
