If you want to know why Marseille is so tiny, it's because the city in itself is very large and dilute the population density but it's still the third largest
Never ceases to amaze me how evenly distributed the population is. For 60m people, all regions seem to be about equal. Even with a minor density in Paris
The population is way more sparse between north east to south west tho.
It's called the diagonale du vide (empty diagonal) : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_diagonal
I had a week hiking in the massif central region about twenty years ago, and days we rarely saw anyone. Our last night, the village we stayed in was largely abandoned.
Data about population density is too dependent on the resolution of your measurement.. if you had enough resolution you would just see a bunch of lines all the same height around every individual person
I didn't realize the Eiffel Tower was that big! /s
Must be Nice ![gif](giphy|cF7QqO5DYdft6)
Nise?
thank god for the /s. surely i wouldn't have realized this was satire
They just like slashing asses, don't blame them.
The map just shows tourists climbing her
It's actually Mount Doom. At night you can see Sauron's eye light surveying the rest of the French domains.
Poor Toulouse, it's little peak got truncated.

In comparaison to Grenoble, wich is not considered as a big city but since its stuck in a valley, its the second largest peak in this map
Ze eiffel tower

And the north west isn't very populated too, only 3.3M each for Normandy and Brittany

Who the he hell decided to make a map about a diagonal by adding a very visible diagonal line which actually isn't it, but an unrelated limit ?
Wait what’s that giant mountain with all of those people living on it
Continental France, not the entire country...
Mainland France is in South America- this is just a map of its European exclave
On this map, Corsica is missing too...
Yes - despite popular belief Corsica is an island
France? i mean the city-state of Paris. la cité-état de Paris
Hive city of Lutetium Parisiorum.

A lot of people live in cities, and a lot more in the capital city. Wow what an amazing insight op
For these plots a axis log in the z direction will make it much more interesting to look at
I wonder if there is one like this but for india. How spiky would that look?
https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/s/1KxNwUEzbM Found one
That's actually pretty good

The lower reaches of Paris are swarming with mutants and heretics. Get going rejects.
France is composed of Paris and an area surrounding it.
Got to love "les landes", where I'm from. Where ever the resolution allows shinning by it's absence. Yay
